Top experience! Nice location actually not far away from train/bus station, if you don’t have huge luggage. Perfect heritage hotel with spring, better to show the traditional name “ 陵枫阁” in booking than the strange translated name. I really love the wonderful view in front of hotel. And every time when I came near to the steps, the staff will come out from inside and warmly welcome me, such some detail but really represent the top service and hosting attitudes. Dinner and breakfast were also such big surprise! Beyond my expectation, especially the dinner was above the level of some Michelin Omakase!!! Please keep this level and I will come back asap and more often, and tell the Chef I love the menu and ideas more than I can say. The spring is indeed relaxing place with great facilities and view of trees and mountains view, if it is not so crowded. Again love here and please keep the high level!

Absolutely everything! The staff that had welcomed us and accompanied us during our stay was helpful, friendly and gracious. The room was absolutely gorgeous with an extraordinary view of a lushious bamboo forest from the window and the private bath. This was possible due to the residence's prime lication on the mountain side. The private bath was such a magical expirience! Hot water of approximately 41°C in a bath of natural rocks out in the open and yet, completely private. The meals (breakfast and dinner) were abundant and delicious. They were Kaiseki dinners that taught us much about local and traditional cuisine. The meals were served by staff members wearing kimonos who explained how to best enjoy the meals. Every afternoon we were served green tea and mochi in the room which wad a delightful touch to the expirience. We reserved the private onsen in the hotel for 45 minutes and it was lovely. The location was also excellent. A mere 5 minute walk from the bus and metro stations and a veriaty of street food and memorabilia shops and hanmade products. The river that flows there made an excellent hiking route and at night we saw fireflies! It was the best place to celebrate our honeymoon! Even more magical than I imagined!

We were told that there was a lounge with great coffee that we should visit after soaking in the onsen. Unfortunatly we didn't realize on time how luxurious the lounge was and we went there only the night before leaving. In the room we got one sugar+coffee+tea per person every day and in the lounge there was a great selection of hot beverages so apparently we didn't have to make due with the small quantity provided to our room. Honestly 45 minutes in the private onsen weren't enough and time flew by, especially because we had to take a shower before and after bathing in the onsen. I must say that the bath in our room felt nicer than the residence's bath area, especialy the shower.

The hotel is a beautiful place full of history and tradition while still being a well maintained clean property. The onsen baths were separated by gender, and they switched baths in the morning and evening so you could experience all the different baths during your stay. Though I have some small tattoos, they informed me to simply be mindful of other people and I had no issues. They told me large tattoos wouldn’t be allowed in the public baths, but they have private baths you can rent also, so there’s really something for everyone here. Plus the private open air bath in our room was amazing! It looked out into the bamboo forest and was so beautiful in the morning. The dinner in the restaurant was delicious, we ordered the extra Kobe beef and it was worth it. My friends from America had never visited an onsen before and this experience blew them away!

Nothing, it was heavenly

Stay here. You will not regret it. This was truly one of the most wonderful vacation experiences in my life. I was blown away by this Ryokan and the staff. The room was incredible, so spacious and we loved the modern yet traditional Japanese aesthetic. We opted for the room with outdoor bathtub, and it was so worth it. These beds were the most comfortable beds in our entire 2 week vacation in Japan. The onsen was truly healing to our sore and aching bodies. We added on a few meals for the full experience, and it was really lovely to seat and eat in the dining hall with the incredible views of the Arima onsen area. I highly recommend getting the meals at the hotel, although the town is nice, it is very crowded on the weekends and we waited over 1 hr in line for local restaurant to seat us as they did not take reservations. It was a delight to wear the yukata and robes to meals. It immersed us in the Ryokan experience and I was very excited to try it out. The lounge/library was also a wonderful amenity--a very aesthetic and relaxing space to take in the views of the town as well. The staff made us feel very welcome and provided world-class service. They even shuttled us to the train station upon check out for free. I dream of this place and I certainly hope to return some day.

Although walking up a hill is great exercise, I wish I had taken a taxi to the hotel since we had our luggage with us. Still, it was not so bad.

I spent two nights here with my husband. This was our second ryokan experience and Negiya set the bar sky-high. Here are a few of the many things we loved about Negiya: 1. The service: Every single member of the staff from arrival to departure has been delightful, attentive, compassionate and dedicated to our well-being. We had the pleasure of interacting with a great number of employees from drivers to managers and we were honestly speechless after several encounters. The kindness was unlike anything we have experienced back home. 2. The food: During our stay we had two different kaiseki dinners that were like two culinary adventures. Everything was neatly arranged and the tastes were both delicious and bold at times. We especially enjoyed our dinners - but the breakfasts were also formidable. It would have been great with an explanation as to what was on our plates, but our waitress did her absolute best trying to answer all our curious questions. 3. The building and facilities: We really wanted a glimpse of a traditional Japanese ryokan and Negiya delivered that and more. Our room had beautiful tatami mats a nice view of green mountains and tree tops. The two onsens were great as well although we preferred Higurashi over Daiyokujyo because it seemed newer and more serene. We paid 3300 yen for a private onsen one night which was a pleasant experience. The whole place has an authentic feel which we both prefer to a modern one. Your priorities may differ. At the time of writing we have just left Negiya and are waiting for the Shinkansen. We wish we could truly express our gratitude to the staff and hope that this review will shed some light on how pleased we are. All the best wishes from Christopher and Emma from Denmark and Sweden.

The onsen facilities were amazing, my family and I only stayed one night, but I took 3 baths. The public baths also have an outdoor space, which is amazing. They also have private bath options but they're indoor only. I also have tattoos and I was able to be in the public baths without any issues. They have an online app to check how busy the baths were so I did time it when it was not so busy. The location itself is up a large hill, but it was extremely quiet. We also couldn't hear any other guests from our room.

The food options should be laid out in advance. Unfortunately, we were not told the full menu in advance so my parents who are not used to Japanese food didn't like some of the options served.

It's a grand old building in a park, with lots of corridors and nooks; the onsen is nice and comfortable; the dinner and breakfast were good (in a nice restaurant on the premises); the lounge is a nice place to chill; the room was perfect - with comfortable beds; the staff were very well organized and helpful

the beef for the shabu shabu at dinner was good, but not excellent, a bit fatty; the water in the onsen was a bit too hot for my tolerance level; the town is a bit empty in February (not the fault of the ryokan of course)

beautiful, encompasses what japan hospitality is all about. they were earnest and incredibly helpful, speaks english, food is really good, and well prepared. the room is huge, view from the room was amazing, and the onsens were incredible. the ryokan is very near the train and bus station, a walkable distance from the traditional onsen street. although it is best to arrange for a driver to pick you up from the station as it is a painful (but short but still painful) uphill climb to the ryokan especially if you have a ton of luggage in winter. however when they spotted us from afar dragging the luggage, they ran down to help us with it. we were so surprised and touched! instructions at check in and check out were all clear and everything was well thought of and laid out to you. they were helpful to suggest the routes and best plans and timings for the itinerary we had in mind, even transportation. they even called the tourist centre to check on bus timings (to osaka) and ropeway timings (at mt rokko) for us, and worried for us being stranded at the foot of mt rokko in the dark - so they sent a driver to pick us up. it was the best experience we have had, so homely and sweet and heartwarming. thank you, from the bottom of our hearts!

Nothing.

an incredibly authentic experience if you are looking to stay in a traditional Japanese ryokan. travelling with my mother I opted for the western style room and the beds were amazingly comfy with a beautiful view of maple trees. Be aware though that western rooms don’t usually serve dinner in the room but in the main hall. the location was easy access from the town and the shuttle bus was convenient. the staff were smiley and lovely, and happy to help with anything we needed. the Onsen was amazing! a private Onsen is bookable for those who are more shy but nothing beats the public baths.

as a very traditional ryokan the building was aged - but that just added to the authentic atmosphere. More English communication would have been useful - we didn’t know what to expect for dinner or breakfast (although it was delicious). They can cater for dietary requirements, but be aware that they will likely request to give everyone in your party the same meal as a result.
