Albergo San Martino

ASM is in a great position to visit Lucca, it is just inside the wall and set back from the streets. We stayed in the annex which was nice, the only downside for us was that our room was next to the entrance door and it appeared to me that most people just let the door slam which caused a massive noise and vibration in our room, which can be jolly annoying at 2am. But apart from that gripe, the staff were great, the breakfast was fine, with a fair choice of food. The hotel was also a nice place to have a early evening drink as you could sit outside in a shady area.

The only downside was that front door (suggestion: how about a sign asking visitors to show some consideration?).

The property is walking distance from the train station and was easy to find. Everything in the historic center of Lucca is within walking distance. The hotel had a fantastic continental style breakfast which included the usual meat, cheese, bread, yogurt etc but also offered some of the regional pastries, biscotti etc. The room was spacious, clean and quiet and beautifully decorated. The bed was comfy. There was plenty of hot water and good water pressure in the shower. Very helpful and friendly staff. There is a bar, open to 8pm.

My only suggestion is that it would be nice to have a kettle for tea and coffee in the room.

We actually didn't stay the night because, although the hotel is advertised as air conditioned, the AC for the building had not been turned on for the season. Apparently, it had not been hot in Lucca until just before our visit and it would take several days to activate the system. After explaining to the staff that I have a health issue related to heat, they allowed us to cancel our stay and refunded our payment. We felt this was a reasonable outcome and I would not hesitate to use the hotel under other circumstances

Staff was truly accommodating. Very decent breakfast. Great location inside the walls but still quiet. Good value for the money. Don’t forget to ask about the history of the hotel!

Try very hard to get there by 8:00 pm as there is no coverage after that time. You can make arrangements of course, but those can be problematic. And, the TV was small. But you should not be in Lucca to watch TV!

10/10! From the happy welcome from reception staff, extremely helpful and clear instructions- I absolutely loved the hotel! My room was in the annexe which was just around the corner (15 seconds walk). My room was big, very clean, big bathroom, comfortable big bed and all amenities working, the hurry is a 5 minute walk to the main vias for the fabulous atmosphere, shops and restaurants Lucca is stunning and I felt very safe walking around day and night. The breakfast was great, fresh, lots of variety and the dining room was lovely. There’s a lovely outdoor area to sit with tables and chairs. The staff are an absolute delight and couldn’t be more helpful ! I’d definitely stay again -grazie mille !!

The location is brilliant! A a short walk from the train station and tucked in a quiet side road just minutes from the cathedral and Piazza Napoleon. All that said the exceptional stand out feature amongst all others is the staff. Without exception they were kind, thoughtful and could not do enough to make our stay a truly memorable one! The staff at Albergo San Martino were friendly and we were given a warm welcome. Our room was comfortable and clean. We were very happy with their restaurant recommendation for dinner. Breakfast is buffet style with lots to choose from. The location is good for exploring Lucca. They happily kept our luggage for us until our departure so that we could explore without bags.

It was all good although perhaps the shower could have been a bit warmer!

Spacious comfortable room in quiet location. A boutique hotel with all the comforts. Close to centre and train and bus station. All staff especially Fabrizio were fantastic and really helpful. Good people like these really enhance the travel experience. Excellent breakfast served indoors or outdoors. Lucca is a wonderful city and this lovely hotel made it perfect.

The location was excellent, right on the edge of the restricted zone, which was great because we could park the car. The entrance to the parking lot was, however, very narrow. It was quiet, the room was big, the bathroom too. We would like the bed to be bigger; it was a bit short for our legs. The breakfast is satisfactory, the staff very kind. Of course, keep in mind that this is a boutique hotel, and the common areas are small, just as the breakfast buffet is small but good enough.

Despite the fact that the hotel is historically known, it was very well renovated with also some characteristics left which makes it very charming.

It was a little bit confusing because the picture and the room didn't look the same. I was expecting a balcony and in the end we got a room without a balcony. Nevertheless we are very satisfied with the modern room and the cute wall paintings.
