Woodhill House

If you are looking for a unique stay in the area , this beautiful period home is what you should book, Outside town, surrounded by nature, Woodhill House will let you experience a little of what country life may have probably been like in the past. The interior is decorated with great taste. We stayed in an upstairs large room with a modern bathroom. We were welcomed by the owner himself who also took the time to shows us the places we could visit in the area. The breakfast was delicious, the staff was very warm and friendly.

We loved the home but the outside of the house was not what we had hoped it would be. We like firm beds and the one we slept in was a bit too soft for us.

Woodhill House is a quaint, old, unique country house, nestled in a quiet countryside location, about 1km outside Adara. It was like stepping back in time, in a good way. I enjoyed what it had to offer. The host and staff are friendly and accommodating, breakfast was good. There is an on-site bar which is unique and nice for a pre dinner drink before going into the town, we received a great dinner recommendation from the host. We were offered on site storage for our road bikes while cycling the Wild Atlantic Way. I would recommend it to cyclists and guests who are looking for a place to stay in Ardara, a nice change from hotels.

The house is old so one can expect a bit of wear and tear. The bathroom had some repair issues (host mentioned trades men are hard to find), the emersion shower water was very hot, toilet flush handle was shaky. I would ask for a grip matt to put in the shower/bath if I was staying a second night. These things didn't really impact our experience, however, they may for some people depending on expectations.

This is a beautiful old house with lovely furniture and great views. Lovely garden which would be amazing in good weather. Bedroom and ensuite clean and warm. Very comfortable old bed. It has a lovely bar and dining room. Our host John was warm, friendly and attentive. We would return.

A lovely place but for balance there are two minor issues which might be a problem for some people. A short walk from town on a quiet road which would be great on summer evenings but dark in winter. Shower adequate but some may like more power.

Location was amazing, 10 minute walk to town through a lively country road, the grounds were perfect with a view of the mountains. We booked the double twin rooms two huge double beds and a balcony on to beautiful garden surrounded by a woodland walk. Staff were very friendly, great vibes, everything and everyone was super relaxed, they absolutely nailed it!!! Hotels like this are few and far between, irish hospitality exemplified, never change!! Lastly the breakfast, finally a breakfast cooked to order with soft eggs, 10/10...definitely coming back and bringing more people next time. Not to be missed

Leaving

Our host, John was a delightful man who made sure we were comfortable with our room, then recommended a great place to eat in town. After dinner we sat down in the living area where there is a bar and enjoyed his company along with other guests. We left with a full bellies the next morning after a delicious breakfast that was gracefully served by a lovely woman ( unfortunately I did not get her name, but she was also a delight. If we visit this area of Donegal again, we will definately stay again.

Loved the location, and the surrounding gardens, and the food was first class. There is also a bit of history attached to the property. Which probably hasn’t changed a lot over generations. The owner and staff are very attentive and always efficient and friendly.

The property probably could do with a few touch ups hear and there, but is very clean and comfortable. But first impressions count, in regards to paintwork on front of building, and a nice clean window to look out from. In restaurant and bar area. But quirky with lots of character . all in all, had a great stay. 😎✌️

tranquility on beautiful grounds, in a amazing area

Unfortunately the towns main hotel is now a Direct Provision Centre and this has had a knock on effect on the night life and atmosphere.. I'd encourage people to continue to seek other alternatives as regards accommodation, so they can experience this beautiful area.. And the Woodhill is just one of the many lovely B&B's etc in the area

Beautiful home. Lovely gardens. John was a perfect host. Delicious breakfast and dinner. Best omelet I have ever had. Helen was so sweet and nice. Donna also so nice. We will never forget this wonderful Irish experience ❤️. Thank you for making it so very special. We will always remember you.... Best black and white... Helen... all staff was great. Rhododendron cave would entice young and old. Old cannon and cannon ball.. etc. Etc. Grateful 🙏

Having to say goodbye

The food was freshly cooked, an amazing breakfast and the dinner was absolutely beautiful. First class food. The dinning area was really relaxing, lovely service and you felt like you were a dinner quest in someone's house. The place was really relaxing and peaceful and the beds were really comfortable.

I think the place generally needs a little touch up here and there but it certainly did not detract from our stay.

Room was a bit dated and furniture had seen better days. We found a lady razor in the shower from a previous guest, toilet seat had a mind of it’s own, noisy toilet cistern, to sum up it needs to be modernised.
