Selina La Fortuna

I liked the pool area, the activities offered and the hostel in general. The kitchen was easy to use and the service they provide is great.

The hostel is quite expensive (for a hostel) as you of course also pay all the amenities that you don’t use. They have boxes which can be locked within your bed - great idea but I just hit my legs on it all the time. Also I would have liked a place to hang my wet clothes which has a cover. The dorms smell like wet dog really fast with everyone hanging their wet clothes there.

The hostel is very nice, with common kitchen, pool area, a co-work. Very central. Overall clean even if mosquitos tend to end their life in the bathroom sinks! The hostel organize many activities during the day, yoga, welcome drinks. The bar/restaurant is good! Pricey, but good and with a Happy hour.

My 6 mix dorm was minuscule, and no curtains on the bunks. Since I had those at different Selina locations, it was expected. The ventilation of the room wasn’t great so it was smelly often time.

The beds are comfortable, the staff are helpful, and the other guests were super friendly. I really appreciated the welcome drink and bonfire, which was a great way to start meeting people. The hostel is well-decorated and fun!

The dorm room with 10 beds got very stuffy. The AC in my room was barely working and the old ceiling fan is very loud. Also, there isn't much extra space to store bags so the room got a little crowded at times. The area under/around my bed had not been cleaned in a while (visible crumbs/dust).

There is no denying that Selina has great facilities. The bathrooms and showers were always very clean. I also really enjoyed the café/bar, especially for breakfast. I really enjoyed having A/C and fan in the room, as well as lights and plugs next to my bed. I met some lovely people at this hostel and it's definitely a very social place where you can meet up in the evenings for a beer with friends. Great location!

I like how the rooms are furnished with storage space under the beds and a huge locker next to the bed. However, in my room the locker was really really hard to close (the closing mechanism is overly complicated) and the drawers under the bed were also kind of broken. The stuff is not very friendly. Tours and activities provided are quite expensive. Although I had a good time here, I find this hostel a bit overrated. It's a big hostel and it attracts a certain type of (pretentious?) traveler. I generally prefer smaller and cosier, down-to-earth hostels with more of a family feeling. If you are the same, I suggest you to stay elsewhere. I think there are other hostels that do the job for less money.

We had a great time at Selina! Our group used all type of accommodation they offer, from rooms with a private bathroom to the tepees with shared bathroom. We really enjoyed sleeping in the tepees as it was a nice diversion to the standard hotel rooms. During heavy rain one of our tepees' roofs started leaking, but they immediately offered us a private room with shared bathroom as an alternative. Breakfast was very delicious – with different options ranging from traditional, local breakfast to American pancakes. We would always come back here!

From time to time, we had some struggle to fit our two big suitcases and backpacks in the tepee as space is really limited here, but for a couple of nights it was alright and we somehow managed. If your traveling with bigger luggage, the private room with shared bathroom would be a good alternative.

Smallest room ever - even tho booked as a Standart room on bookings. Activities are pretty expansive - 80$ including a waterfall (18$ entry) an easy free walk, a cheap lunch and a visit in the free hot springs...

I stayed in a private room which was great. I booked day trips through the hostel which were 10/10 and that saved me lots of planning time. Good atmosphere at the hostel. Always people chilling by the pool or in the restaurant/bar area. Yoga and fitness classes are available on site as well as massage!

I wasn’t a big fan of the food to be honest. The drinks were great though!

I liked the staff, interacting with other guests, the parking lot, the pool even if I didn’t use it, the welcome drink, the location, drinks at the bar were great, they even had some free activities (e.g latin dance lesson).

Not that I didn’t like but be prepared for a 10-people dorm if you will be staying there. There are 5 bunk beds on that dorm, you will need to get used to the dimensions of it and to people turning on their beds’ light at random times of the night and early morning. The only thing that I didn’t like was that I hurt my head with the door of the personal locker on my bed. That door won’t fully open, so it’s easy to get hurt with it because you don’t accurately calculate how close it is. Perhaps the staff can warn about that door and instruct guests on how to prevent getting hurt. I wasn’t the only person who had issues with those lockers.

Excellent location in La Fortuna. We booked a private double room which was really well decorated and lots of space with excellent facilities in the room and in the communal bar area. The bar/breakfast are overlooked the river which was great and although only a limited few options for breakfast good food and portions. Didn’t get involved in any of the free or paid for activities there but looked like there was lots to do if you wanted.

Only criticism is that the door on our balcony didn’t actually lock (we noticed on last day so didn’t bother to ask for a room change) but I’m sure they would have sorted if asked. A fuse had gone which affected the plugs in our room when we checked in and the staff fixed straight away. I would also suggest for the private rooms they include hair dryers at it was the only place I stayed that didn’t have one, but I did already know this when booking so wasn’t a surprise.

The vibe in Selina was great with activities happening all the time. The pool and restaurant area was super nice and the free breakfast great. Selina is super close to town so walkable for anything you may need.

The teepee tent was a little small and quite crowded for 2 people. It was also quite hot at night under it but fun experience.
