Argosy Motor Inn

Bed was comfy, shower was good* Room was ok, has been renovated from an older design, there are a few hints. Room was warm when we entered, which I loved, but hubby grumbled it was too hot. I mean, it is winter anyway.... i appreciated the fore thought. It had tea, coffee, heaps of long life milk, biscuits, etc. A squeeze bottle for hand soap and another combo squeeze bottle for shampoo / body wash. Towels were soft and clean. I couldnt get the wifi to work but my phone data worked and was unlimited so I just went with that.

Shower made the whole bathroom floor wet as there is no door, curtain or ledge to stop the water flowing out. Squeeze bottle soap is hard to squeeze

The bed was lovely and comfortable, especially a real treat was an electric blanket. Housekeeping staff were very good, we were there for three days, every day they came to enquire if we needed clean towels or anything needed refilling tea, coffee etc., meals were exceptional and staff most obliging.

Perhaps seeing as we were there for three days, maybe an armchair would have been appreciated. A dishcloth for washing dishes. And to have a rail beside the toilet and Inside the shower for people with a mobility problem would be helpful…no room for wheelchair access, although disability access was not advertised in there website, so if that was needed, suggest you look for a place with that service accessible…these are just suggestions, and not really complaints….as it was a nice, little comfy room….

What a gem this place is, driving in I has my reservations (being an older building) staff on check in were very friendly and welcoming, got into my room and wow, it smelt clean, it was clean, the rooms were modern, massive TV, and the most wonderful shower. I was disappointed I was only staying one night. My room had a view of the river. Room service for dinner was very prompt and the food was fabulous. I have nothing bad to say about this place.

Everything was perfect

The rooms were comfortable and well appointed. The shower was AMAZING !! We ate the bistro and the food was lovely. I used the guest laundry and 1 wash was $4 and 1 dryer cycle was also $4 (I used 2 dryer cycles).

There were roadworks out the front. While this was no fault of the property, we were not given any information on how to get to the ferry while the road in front of the motel was half closed (we were unable to turn right to go to the ferry) So a 3 min drive turned in to a 40 min drive as Google maps kept taking us back to the front of the motel. It would have been nice to get some local knowledge when booking in to assist us.

We stayed here because it was close to the Spirit of Tasmania for an early departure. Great location. We were on the second floor which requires going up external stairs which some people might struggle with, but most rooms are ground level. From the upper level we saw the evening ship departing which was nice. Very clean nice bathroom pleasure to use. We were in a room with a bath which was nice and deep, could have easily fit an adult. Beds comfortable. They had porta cot for bub. There is a bistro there which some might find very handy for dinner. Menu in the room. Reception was open till 8pm which was great for us because we drive a distance to get there and arrived dinner time.

The 3 rooms which are up stairs on 2nd floor could be a problem for elderly, people with bad knees/hips, or heavy suitcases. We were fine. Most rooms are ground level.

Lovely clean room. Updated modern bathroom. Everything we needed for a 5 day stay on business was provided- fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster., cutlery, crockery.. Plenty of storage space. Just a 20 metre walk to the bistro each night for dinner. The staff , from reception, to the bistro and cleaning staff were wonderful- friendly, helpful. I would definitely stay there again and highly recommend it, for an overnight stay coming off or going on the boat or as as base if staying longer. Bistro meals were varied and very nice. Close to city centre. Rated 3 stars but is one of the best 3 star motels we've stayed in.over the years and it was excellent value for money.

Really wasn't anything we didn't like..

Arrived with the wife and car c/- of the Spirit Of Tasmania crossing, it was pretty late when we arrived at The Argosy. Unfortunately the attached dining area had closed, had to go on the search, for something to eat. We were extremely impressed with our large, super clean room. Thank you for the UPGRADE. Much appreciated.

We dined in the nearby restaurant a couple of times, and found the food and drink, plus the service, very good. Pokies / Slot Machines ... not so friendly, but hey, we were on holidays, so it didn't mater.

Room ..has been a refurbished “motel” room. The shower was great in the amount of water and temperature and ease of use. The bathroom fan was noisy and not quite adequate..the door to the bedroom needed to be left open to reduce fog. The bed was extreme comfortable, towels nice and fluffy. Carpet was very clean.

The tv was a bit of a challenge to operate ….the fridge was tiny…… and although there were cups, glasses etc there was no tea towels or cloths or detergent to wipe up after use. I presume the used dishes were taken away to be cleaned.

Stayed at the Argosy arriving in Devonport off The Spirit of Tasmania and the night before return firstly due to the 3 minute drive to the terminal Convenient. The bottle shop is next door, has a guest laundry, clean, comfy beds and parking is good. The hotel connected has really good pub meals and the water is straight across the road for strolls. Will definitely stay here on my next visit Thumbs up Argosy !!

Nothing to note

Great location close to where the Spirit of Tasmania docks. Fantastic communication from hotel staff who contacted us when our ferry was very late arriving to give us a code for the key lock box. Beautifully renovated large room in a contemporary style. Luxurious large bathroom with a huge walk in shower. Lovely big windows with a view of the river. On site laundry with coin operated washing machines and dryers was very handy.
