DoubleTree by Hilton Cairns

The check-in process was quick and simple. The room was comfortable and clean. The toilets were also well maintained and clean with sufficient quantity of toiletries. and sufficient towels. The location is great, bang on the beach front and all the attractions are within walkable distance. The sea view from the room in which we stayed is excellent. The breakfast spread was good and the timings were well suited for tourists. The room service is also good. The staff were polite and helpful and assisted in getting Taxi for airport drop.

The toilet was small compared to the room size and the glass partition of the bath tub could not contain the water splash from the shower and made the toilet surface wet. Drinking water was provided only in the reception area and had to go down to collect the same.

Beds are super comfy, staff At reception and cleaning staff are very friendly and welcoming. special mention to the tour desk staff member who liked to talk to my daughter about her rock band t-shirts!

pool, spa and pool area are dated and needs updating.

Loved the welcome cookie on check-in - the rooms were comfortable and the smart tv was a nice addition. The beds were excellent, as were the pillows. The wifi was strong throughout our stay. The resort itself was clean and comfortable. Parking is extremely reasonable at only $10 a night (excellent value when compared with what other hotels are charging). Really enjoyed our stay. This is our second visit to DoubleTree in Cairns and would absolutely return again.

Extra towels and soaps etc would have been nice (given we were three adults sharing the room). I feel that this is important for guests to have adequate amenities to support their stay. Also, the water in the lobby needed refreshing throughout our stay... having staff address this would have been a nice touch.

Great location, fantastic breakfast and friendly staff. The rooms are well appointed with comfortable beds, lovely linen and a nice big desk area. A staffed tour desk on site was a big help. Also the vending machines in the lobby came in handy for a late night snack

The bathrooms are well appointed but very small. The shower over bath could be a problem for the elderly or people with mobility issues as it is a deep bath so quite a step. I’m 5 ft 10 and it is knee height. I don’t want to be too harsh as Cairns, like the rest of the world, is still getting back to normal after Covid but the attention to detail of the cleaning around the hotel was not up to Hilton standard. The designated smoking wasn’t cleaned once during our 5 night stay. There was quite a bit of dust in areas I felt should have been cleaned

The breakfast had ample food and selections even though it was fairly basic. The staff were wonderful and the tables spaced out and comfy. Close walking distance to everything. Lovely views from the balcony over the ocean and Esplanade. The towels in the room were 10/10. Big and fluffy and luxurious.

The fruit was very average at breakfast and the coffee wasn’t very nice. Room service finished at 8.30pm but it doesn’t state this on the webpage. The curtains don’t actually meet which means the room is very bright in the morning.

Location, compensatory drinks for inconvenience of renovations, staff regularly checking in that our expectations are being met & acknowledging our concern, however not providing immediate rectification of some issues. The magnificent Staff throughout the hotel!!! Providing umbrellas during inclement weather.

South lift call button was not registering for two out of three days of our stay, despite the hotel engaging a lift company. Shower plug hole not draining efficiently. Bed was not made with a top sheet-could be a regional decision owing to level of humidity. Safe batteries were flat on our second last day without immediate rectification-there may be a reason for this but unsure. Existing terracotta tiling could do with non-slip treatment.

The service at this hotel was really great, all the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and to be accommodating. The buffet breakfast was really the perfect start to any day and the range of food provided was exceptional. The pool area was really well maintained with plenty of pool floaties and toys for the family to enjoy and lots of sunbathing chairs, umbrellas and clean towels. The bi-weekly barramundi feeding was a fun bonus.

If I had to choose something I would love for the breakfast buffet to be open a little later than 9.30 but this is me really scraping the barrel for some feedback!

The location is fantastic, close to everything on the Esplanade and the staff were very attentive. The tour desk staff were very helpful. The room was great obviously not long since a refresh. Would definitely stay at the Double Tree Hilton again. The option to decline daily room servicing (when you wanted to) for a refreshment at the Vine bar was a great initiative which we took advantage of.

Nothing, we had a great stay in a great location.

The location was fantastic if you want to be close to the esplanade. Easy to walk into town for restaurants, the lagoon and tourist attractions. The room was comfortable for 2 but we would need more space for more people. I liked that they have pool towels for the guests and a couple of umbrellas for those that find the sun too hot.

The breakfast was nothing to write home about. They didn’t have pancakes, hash browns or short cut bacon. It was very cheap looking. The bar near the pool ran out of a lot of ingredients eg. the banana and mango smoothie ran out of bananas. so they offered banana syrup. They ran out of vodka etc. For a school holiday time and a busy hotel, you would hope they were organised for the amount of guests.

The location is absolutely superb, we had an ocean view room which had fantastic wide & unobstructed views, off a small-ish but use-able balcony. Highly recommend the ocean view rooms. The room had a mini fridge, kettle, coffee machine, a few cups and glasses, and teaspoons. It also had a good sized flat tv. The bathroom was smaller than it looked in the photos but it was fine for 1 person at a time. The temperature & shower pressure in the shower/bath was good. The wardrobe space was adequate and had regular coat hangers. It also had a standard room safe, a normal non-attached (although a bit old) hairdryer, and the toiletries included shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion, dental kit, shave kit, shower cap and soap. The breakfast buffet was good, standard size, it was a standard western style buffet, and always had enough of each item. The gym / fitness centre was a good size, and included gym towels, cold filtered water, hand washing and sanitising station, tv, air con, and was open 24/7. The equipment included 2 treadmills, 1 exercise bike, a fold up/down bench, a large rack of free weights, and a multi exercise cable tower, with pull up bar at the top, as well as a large foam block (eg. to jump up on), fit ball, and foam roller. We didn't use the pool as we unfortunately had bad, rainy weather most of our stay. The reception staff let us borrow a large umbrella several times. There is a reception desk, a porter's desk, and a day-tours desk, all staff were excellent including the cleaners. They also will store your luggage if needed. There's lots of couches in the lobby, as well as cold water and lemon water jugs. The hotel is in a round configuration with the middle area open, and has nice gardens & pond in the middle. Its a very short, easy walk to the main area of the Esplanade with lots of restaurants and the Night Markets, as well as the Pier and the Casino.

Negatives: It was a little pricey, but most of the hotels were. A couple of times the room servicing wasn't done till later in the day, but they were very friendly.
