Trang An Retreat

Great stay and just amazed we were the only people there - tourism is only just restarting. The place is really pretty with individual chalets. Staff really helpful. New bicycles for free loan, and a short ride to local attractions like the boat rides and the Hoa Lua site. It's further to the Bai Dinh pagoda but we managed it in 50 minutes on bikes. Food was cooked to order by the kitchen with fresh ingredients straight from the family garden. Internet reliable and fast. Vietnam is a fabulously beautiful country and this was a wonderful place to enjoy the area from. We'd only come down for a few days while visiting our son and his family in Hanoi whom we hadn't seen for 30 months. We could easily have spent a few more days at Trang An. I really hope these people get foreign visitors back - they've invested in very good facilities that put many motels in more modern countries like Australia and the US to shame, and they deserve to have the trade. If you're going to Vietnam I'd urge you to look at Trang An. We had a small 2-person unit but there are larger family sized rooms.

For the price and what we got we have absolutely no complaints.

It was everything we wanted after Hanoi’s busyness and noise. It’s a very quaint and peaceful property with a picturesque location. The rooms were clean and simple, with fast Wi-Fi, and an awesome shower. The pool was a very nice addition after a long day of site-seeing, and they offer free bicycle rental, which we utilised every day. They serve food too, which was more than adequate. We checked in initially for 2 nights, and added a 3rd night within 10 minutes, as we loved it immediately. Special thanks to Sam for his helpful tips each morning 😄

Nothing, hopefully we can return again! Just be mindful that if you’re looking for a bit of nightlife, it’s a bit away from everything, but that didn’t bother us.

Excellent hotel in Trang An. We went there from a motor bike from "Tam Coc ".Very helpful receptionist and the owner of the hotel. Hotel location is very good .It was easy to arrive there because of our bike ,if not you have to go about 01 km in a under construction road. that's no harm ,after go there every thing will go off with the hotel environment. Breakfast was very good ,Set menu, but more choices. Hotel owner offering some other free items for the breakfast. Thank you for all support which you given us .Recommended this hotel for all Trang An travelers.

Tranquil. Clean. Great service. The above summarises our stat at Trang An Retreat. If you stay in Tam Coc, you will face constant honking. If you stay anywhere else in Trang An, you will not get the service of Trang An Retreat. Our guy was seriously always checking in on us, giving great suggestions, helping us book things. We got stuck in Van Long Wetlands and couldn’t get a ride back. We contacted Trang An Retreat and a driver arrived in 20 minutes, and was 20% cheaper than the Grab rates. That all said, this isn’t a western resort with the softest Sateen sheets and goose feather filled pillows. The bathroom is nice but not resort level. You can’t fill up a bathtub with hot water before the water goes cold. All that should be expected for the price and location. What you do get is an extremely friendly and helpful staff.

The owner, Sam, was extremely personable and helpful. They are great with booking tours and bus tickets.

The free bikes that are advertised are in very poor shape, and on most of them it’s not possible to adjust the seat. They’re mostly small frames, and the seat post was too short for me (5’6”) on the few that did. Rooms retained moisture, though it made a big difference if you closed the bathroom door but left the fan on in there. No room safe, and one day we came back to the housekeeper having left the room door wide open, presumably to air out the room but also leaving our belongings inside open to the air! Food was not very good, but we found a little restaurant close by (Vi Tuyen) that had excellent food and smoothies.

The staff was wonderful. Location is right in the middle of the Trang An area. The resort itself is beautiful with a wonderful garden in the middle and a great view on the mountains. They rent out motorbikes and mine was very reliable having done a lot of miles with it. The rooms are wonderful too, very clean and full of light.Mike was very helpful and great to chat with. He gave me a lot of advice not just about the resort and the area but also about traveling in Vietnam! I stayed twice as long as planned because it is such great place and there is so much to see!

Nice and quiet spot for relaxing. We had a very good sleep in a quiet area. Breakfast was tasty and served fast. The option was limited but we didn't mind about that since the taste was good. Cute pool right next to the room.

They gave us a room and saying that they upgraded us to room with two double beds. Honestly I didn't need the second bed taking all the floor space. The road coming into the retreat area is in terrible condition for car. I am pretty sure that it would not be so much fun to ride on a scooter/motorcycle with it either. There was a cockroach on my towel. That was not fun to see.

I believe the front desk person is Sam. He spoke very good English and was very nice and accommodating. They had free bikes for us to use. Breakfast was included which seems to be the norm in Vietnam. We booked our room the day before and it was an excellent value for the money. They had preset rates for hotel transfers so we had them arrange our pickup and dropoff from our hotel in Hanoi. The prices seem fair when comparing them to Grab rates. We also rented mopeds (motor bikes) for excellent prices. Honestly, one of the highlights of our trip was riding through Ninh Binh on the mopeds. Their location is very close to the Trang An Grottos which if you're visiting the Ninh Binh area, you will go to anyways. We were able to ride the free bikes to there easily.

Not much to say here. My only real complaint is when renting the mopeds, 3 out of 4 of them were basically on empty. One of them ran out of gas before we reached a gas station. We called them and Sam immediately came to us with some gas and accompanied us to the gas station. Good thing he did because I don't think we would have known where to get gas. They're basically little shops that also have a manual portable gas pump that you pay by the liter.

Sam was absolutely amazing with his customer service. Actually both Sam and the gentleman that worked the afternoon/evening shift were so helpful throughout our stay. The stay provided everything that we needed. When we arrived, Sam went over a map of the area with us and recommended which items that we do. There were a few places that we could get to with a bike, which Trang A Retreat provided for free, and some places that required renting their moped, for 120K dong, per day. There was a good free breakfast and I could not complain about any of the meals that I had while I was at Trang An Retreat. I would recommended doing the Trang A Boat Tour (go early) and the Hang Mua Cave hike up the the dragon. Both were breath taking in their own right. Also, we were going to be checking out early and Sam made sure that we had breakfast even though it was before the time that breakfast was open. So helpful! Thank you so much Trang An Retreat for making our stay in Ninh Bình so memorable.
