Hall Park Hotel self check in

I have to say, the room was one of the nicest I have stayed in for an age. It was huge, well lit, well decorated with an amazing choice of table n chairs, chez longues and lounging chair. The bed was massive, and comfy. Nice size TV. AND......my dog was allowed in to stay as well!!! It also had a large bath and shower.

The entrance to the Hotel belied what I finally found in the room, first impression was that it was a bit dated and needed brightening up. The food/bar set up was very confusing for the night time, it almost seemed like it was only half open and there was no food. The worst thing about my whole experience....... and I have to say that this isn't necessarily the hotel's fault, but when I left for breakfast in the morning there was an overriding smell of stale cigarette smoke, which (even as an ex-smoker) is not a good smell in the morning. If it was because there are smoking rooms in the hotel, then they need to buy draught (smell) excluders.

Hall Park Hotel is a lovely old building within walking distance of the centre of Workington. It is located across from a nice, spacious park. The outside areas of the building are full of wonderful flowers that were in full bloom when we arrived. We needed somewhere secure to store our bikes overnight and the owners were very accommodating. The rooms were modern, clean, very quiet and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent in terms of both variety and quality. Workington was a very pleasant surprise, certainly not what I expected.

Not really a dislike but more of an observation - the self check-in threw me initially but it was just me over-complicating things.

When we arrived we where made very welcome. We asked about somewhere to eat. at the time the hosts had just finished a barbecue and asked us if we would like to have some food - there was plenty left. We gratefully accepted and enjoyed lovely barbecued food with a lot of variety and quantity. We where very surprised at the low cost of the drinks we also had. But most of all the people were very welcoming with a high level of naturel hospitality, nothing false or insincere. A lovely stay with excellent walks immediately near to the hotel that my partner and I and our pet Milo enjoyed. Milo was fascinated by the number of rabbits he could say hello too.

There was nothing disappointed except we would have liked to have stayed longer and explored the coast and lake district. This stay was a stopover on the way to Scotland.

The hotel is not that bid and the atmosphere there is very nice. The staff and visitors are very friendly and open towards visitors. The food for dinner was great as well for a very fair price at that. My bed was very comfortable as well :) Breakfast is prepared individually and is very hot on arrival at the table.

For vegetarians the breakfast selection is quite limited which is no problem for one night but challenging for a prolonged stay.

A nice big room with clean modern decor. Lovely outlook over the park. Friendly hosts and a tasty breakfast.

My only criticism was that my room was downstairs opposite the bar which meant I could hear everyone’s conversation until nearly 11 o’clock. However the second night was quiet so it could have been a one off. I was also travelling with my dog so was grateful of a room close to the door. It certainly wouldn’t stop me from visiting again.

Owners couldn't be nicer breakfast was huge and delicious plenty of options available to guests with a bar etc we wopuld have normally had a drink but it had been a very long day and tbh we were knackered but the huge plus points and dog owners take note we had 3 labby dogs all allowed to stay at no extra cost and no big list of rules etc for them which is superb and the room we had was huge compared to some hotels we have stayed at all in all it represented great value oh and there is a park directly across the road for your furry friends to do their business

Bed could have been better I had a spring go boing right next to my head memory foam mattresses would be better and comfier and the road outside is quite busy

The room was very comfortable and exactly as we expected. There was plenty of toiletries available and tea and coffee. There was a wide range at breakfast which was cooked on request and tasted amazing.

Upon check in, there was nobody to greet us and the room keys were just on the top of the reception desk which anybody could of walked in and picked up. In the morning the shower was not working like it did the previous day but this was the only negative.

Hotel was clean. Plenty of options for breakfast, cooked option was lovely. Staff were lovely and friendly and very helpful. Didn't have a certain drink in the bar but Paul went out and got it for us next day. The Royal George was recommended for dinner, food was lovely although portions very big for some of us, great if you're hungry though. Staff are knowledgeable about places to see in surrounding areas

Not a lot to do round about. Most touristy things were a bus or car ride away.

The location was ideal for our visits to the Lake District and learning about the history of the coastal area of Cumbria. The breakfast was great and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

A small bin in our bathroom for sanitary waste etc. would have been nice and a toilet brush. Parking was limited to 3 spaces on the premises. On the road parking was ok from 6pm - 8.30am, so you had to be up and out pretty sharpish, this wasn't made totally clear when we booked.

Loved the breakfast and how friendly and accommodating staff were. Hearing about how the place has grown and continuing to be improved. Would come back again. Loved how welcoming they were with dogs and no extra fee was charged.

The bed was quite small and uncomfortable for the size of the room. I suffer with back issues and this was what let our stay down slightly as it was uncomfortable.
