Bryn Derwen

Great location, just a short walk to shops, pus and the river. Short drive to Elan valley visitor centre. Parking was easy in the road outside. Nice early check in time. Dick was very helpful with places to eat. We would recommend The Triangle for food. We also ate in a couple of other pubs with typical pub menus and the food was good but nothing special. The room was lovely with a great shower room, comfy bed and views from the window across the hills watching the red kites. I would have preferred the room made up every day though. Breakfast was at a time to suit and cooked to order. It was one of the best B&B breakfasts we've had for ages. The bacon is great quality as were the eggs. Dick is a great cook!

The property is ideally located within walking distance of the town so eating out and visiting the Elan Valley was very easy. Even meant we could have a few drinks on the local pubs and stroll home. Dick, the proprietor is very friendly and helps with any requests you may have. The breakfasts are delicious and the best I've had at a B&B. Our room was the jacuzzi room and nice and spacious with shower and jacuzzi bath. We brought our dog with us and she was made to feel very welcome. Lots of good walks in the area and the Elan Valley and the dams are outstanding. We shall return, hopefully soon.

Bryn Derwen is an exceptional bed and breakfast. We had the king room, which had wonderful views and was very spacious. The chocolates were a nice touch. The air conditioning was a godsend during the unseasonal heatwave! The house is spotless. Breakfast was substantial with plenty of choice and the full English cooked to perfection. Bryn Derwen is ideally located in Rhayader, and we would definitely stay there again when in the area.

Nothing to dislike

Lovely room. The accommodation was full but the room was at the back and very quiet. Tasty Glamorgan vegetarian sausage as part of a good breakfast.

I was unpleasantly surprised when he asked me to pay £2 extra to lock my motorcycle to the chain and ground anchor which he has installed in the car park. A bit unexpected given that I was paying £110 for the room already and I hadn't noticed this mentioned on the description. Be prepared!

Overall very comfortable. Breakfasts very good. Excellent views from the front rooms. Location good but a little out of the main part of town. The bonus of its location was quietness. Rhayader is an excellent base for walking, cycling and bird watching in the Elan Valley.

There was no central heating on in the house which made it feel cool overall (early May). The room was provided with an aircon unit which was sufficient to keep the main room warm but the bathroom was cold and the towel rail (on the CH system) was cold, so towels could not be dried or warmed. After nearly 10 years we felt the town had deteriorated and seemed a little shabby in parts. Not much in the way of quality in the pub food, although plenty of pubs to chose from!

We rode up on motorbikes to see the Elan Valley. Bryn Derwen (and Dick) accommodates bikers very well indeed and the proximity to the town centre and the dams is superb. Views are great too. After a good day touring and an evening drinking and eating it’s a short pleasant walk back to the property where we both felt very comfortable. Oh, and the breakfast is superb!!

For the price we paid there’s very little worth noting.

Our host, Dick, was brilliant, he ensured we had everything we needed, gave us useful local information and recommended places to eat. The room was far superior to many 4* hotels I've stayed in, large room, bed comfy, exceptionally clean and the complimentary bottled water and chocolates were unexpected and welcome. Breakfast was cooked to order, with plenty of choice and lots of it! It's a 5 min walk into town, plenty of unrestricted on-street parking outside the B&B and only 3 miles from the wonderful Elan Valley.

I can't fault this place, highly recommend it

The entire experience was faultless. Dick is a fantastic host, a really lovely bloke, friendly and professional. Parking is easy, and it's only 5-10 mins stroll into the centre of Rhayader for food and drinks. We were in the King room and the view out of the window is genuinely stunning. Great walk-in shower. Fantastic breakfast as well, with an excellent range of stuff on offer. I had poached eggs and they were spot on. I'm not even going to go on about the stuff on offer in the broader Rhayader and Elan Valley area but yes, Bryn Derwen gets my vote any time.

We only stayed for one night, so didn't really stay long enough to take advantage of the locality and its many splendours. Honestly though, it's faultless, loved it.

Delightful B&B. Amiable host. Aircon in bedroom. Very nice freshly cooked breakfasts. Secure parking for motorcycles on site. Short level walk into town with plenty of evening eateries. Tastefully decorated bedroom and (large) shower room.

An electric towel rail rather than one connected to the central heating would have been better in the summer.

Our room was so spacious and immaculate. The bed was so comfy and the pillows... Oh the pillows were like marshmallows! The bathroom is enormous and i loved the jacuzzi bath. Fresh milk for the tea tray in a flask is a great touch. Breakfast is brilliant and a lovely selection of cereals, yogurts and jams. The cooked selection is cooked to order and was delicious. We had a great stay with the bonus of a pair of red kites flying over the road outside . Thank you Dick

Nothing not to like to be honest. It is parking on the road which was fine for us. We went to quite a busy and noisy pub for dinner and will take up Dicks recommendation of the triangle inn next time.
