Wheal Tor

The location is out of this world ...wild roaming cows , pony's and sheep and much more . The accommodation (pod) was beautiful . Very simple but everything you need ...the beds etc were spotless and the pods are extremely comfortably and warm . Staff were second to none . Couldn't do enough for you ..friendly helpful and just amazing . Now the food ....oh my god I have to say it's one of the best meals I've had in a decade . The quality ,the quantity were like one of the world class London restaurants . . Presentation was amazing . And they couldn't do enough to cater for my son's mad requests ...Mac and cheese , rosemary sauce prawns and chips ....oh and the desert ..(brownie and ice cream ) ...amazing . This is our especially my ...new favourite place to go .....will be back soon . Thank you so much for a amazing stay !!

That we had to home

Such a beautiful place, with amazing views, wildlife, and stars! We stayed in the Bell tent which was super cosy and had its own outdoor space and bbq as well as fridge and tea making facilities, there was even a heater but we were lucky with the weather! Stunning views to wake up to. Proper double bed and very comfy futons for the children. Lots of blankets. Helpful and friendly owners, they even found us an outdoor socket for our rather ancient electric car! The boys loved all the sheep, we also saw bats and heard an owl calling at night...magical, we really hope to be back one day!

The glamping pod was ideal for me and my friend who i was travelling with. The pods are in the middle of a field, with an accompanying hotel. The pod was cosy, with enough space for two people to live comfortably. Three people would also not leave you feeling crammed. There were two beds at either end, a single and a double, with a table against the back wall and a generous amount of space in the middle. A shower and toilet block is a short walk from the pods. The owners were very exceptional and accommodating. They managed to fit us in for breakfast despite us not pre requesting it (which is requested the night before) on one night. The breakfast was a very good price, big and was delicious. I would stay here again, well worth the price.

Perfectly located on top of the hill just outside Pensilva with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Very comfortable room and facilities with extremely helpful and friendly staff. Exceptional customer service with excellent breakfast and food. Superb location for the outdoor enthusiast.

Access drive from main road has a few potholes which will no doubt be filled by the Spring/Summer, however if care is taken should not create any problems for competent drivers or their vehicles.

Loved the area, the set up and the proximity to the moors. Felt very magical and exciting driving up to Wheal Tor and seeing the hobbit huts appear. Sturdy, cosy and comfortable to stay in, the huts are an ace way to go camping but with slightly better accommodation. Even with this year's awful rain and wind we had a great time and the location is stunning with breathtaking views. Wonderful seeing the local sheep, cows and even horses roam freely around the outskirts of the moors and across the area. Really makes the trip. :) You can have bbqs and sing songs and facilities are clean and tidy. LShower room and sink area is a few steps from the hobbit huts and very clean. We ate in the main restaurant and the staff were wonderful, so friendly and welcoming. Food was very tasty and comforting. Think the owners have done a smashing job with renovating it so far from when they took over, and can't wait to come back for longer.

That we only stayed for one night!

This was emergency accommodation as arrived for our actual holiday 2 days early. The bell tent was great. Kids loved it. Was set up nicely inside with lights, heater, fridge & tea making facilities. The views were breathtaking. Staff so accommodating when we booked considering our situation. Toilet and shower in a separate block, which was clean. Breakfast was incl, very filling. Great menu for lunch and dinner too. Staff very polite and friendly. Plus point dogs were welcome! Lots of sheep and wildlife around. Great location for nearly by beaches. We really landed on our feet!

The people running this place were incredibly helpful and friendly, breakfast was included in the price and exceeded speciations, the location was remarkable and the tent we stayed in was beautiful with facilities such as a fridge, kettled, complimentary drinks and food and a heater. We received a full English breakfast in the morning and was made to perfection - I was recommended to this site by family and was made aware the site has only come under new management within the last few years, the level of work that has been done can not be put into words and I look forward to seeing this place develops further in the future.

Perhaps the road on the way into the site as it’s very run down and damaged but is to be expected considering the area.

lovely views across the moor, comfortable beds and warm bedding, access to electricity and lighting, tea and coffee making facilities. nice and clean. The pub is lovely and the food great. Staff super helpful and friendly. unfortunately it rained all week but we still had a nice stay because of the staff and attached pub where we could drink coffee/beer and play cards when it was at it's worst, in the sunshine it would have been wonderful- the setting is remote but very beautiful!

Toilets and shower blocks were quite basic and were not spotless.

The Hobbit Hut Pods were ideally situated in amongst the wooded natural landscape on an elevated section above the main hotel, bar and restaurant, offering comfortable and reasonably secluded accommodation with very adequate communal shower and toilet block. The hotel had stunning views over the surrounding countryside and provided superb and extremely affordable breakfast served by pleasant attentive staff.

Access road is gravel pathway up hillside, therefore maintenance of the road surface could be compromised during wetter seasons and care driving through occasional potholes necessary. Suspect this is only a temporary situation as there was evidence that continued improvements are being made.

The location of the hotel is fab! We had a wonderful stay and felt so relaxed and looked after that we didn't want to leave. The room was beautiful and comfortable, and we were provided with a lovely selection of local refreshments. Shower gel, soap and shampoo were presented on soft white towels, a lovely touch! The owners and their team were friendly, professional and made us feel welcome. The local ale went down far too well 😂 And the food was excellent, hats off to the chef!

The only thing we didn't like was not having booked a longer stay, there is always next time!
