Lovely welcoming hotel in beautiful gardens. Excellent breakfast and dinner in the restaurant. All staff helpful and cheerful. Bed comfortable. Outdoor heated pool with loungers was great. This is a great location for walks from the door onto the Downs and to the sea and the Seven Sisters. Hotel provides walk notes. Lots to do in the area including the National Trust Clergy House close by, Charleston Farmhouse, Seven Sisters Country Park. Good choice of local pubs. Alfriston is a charming village.

Water pressure low in the shower but this may have been owing to water company problems with drought. Providing a fridge in the room would be helpful.

Excellent meals and staff. Very nicely appointed dining room. Superb grounds. In general the common areas on the ground floor are comfortable and inviting. Bearing in my criticisms I have rated my stay Very Good because I thought the price at £151 was realistic and the overall experience enjoyable.

Room 49 was tired and needing of a refurbishment. In particular the bathroom shelving was damaged and the decor and fittings out of date. The plumbing is in need of an overhaul. It took 10 minutes for the cold water tape to flow cold. Also thought that the electricity power was low. It took a long time to charge my phone. Bedroom corridors need brightening up! Outside the window frames looked in need of care and gave an impression of tiredness

The village of Alfriston is exceptional picturesque and the Deans Place Hotel is lovely too with lovely grounds. A very comfortable feel moving around the public areas of which there were plenty to sit and enjoy the various views. The dogs were made to feel welcome and we loved they the easy access walk around the village and onto the South Downs was so convenient. Nice touch in the Guest Information booklet giving ideas for walks and exploring the area (I think there were about 10 suggestions for walks). The bed was nice and comfortable, and the windows opened nicely for fresh air.

Nothing to complain about, although I did experience no hot water for a few minutes - the Guest Information booklet specifically mentioned it, and after waiting a few minutes, the shower burst back into life.

The room was clean and comfortable and the (buffet) breakfast was very good. The staff were all friendly and efficient.

We dined in the hotel both nights. On first seeing the menu, we were concerned to see that prices had risen noticeable since our last visit - £22 for a Chicken Caesar Salad seemed a little steep. This was explained somewhat when the food arrived - the portions, particularly of the mains, were very good, but also very large. Too large in fact for us - we were both unable to finish our meals on either night - and we do have good appetites ! Maybe some consideration could be given to reducing the portion sizes (and the prices), or maybe offering some "smaller plates" in addition to the main menu.

A very quaint country hotel, good location and facilities. We only had the breakfast and an afternoon sandwich but the quality was very good. The room was a good size with good facilities and clean, the weather was very warm therefore so was the room but a fan was available in the room. The bathroom was small with shower over the bath the only criticism was that the bath side panel was only plywood and needed replacement. Oddly the cold water ran warm but bottled water was available in the room for drinking water. Good parking.

Room was stunning - although I'd booked a 'basic' room it was beautifully furnished, and a nice view on to the surrounding gardens. It's in keeping with the village - very attractive, and just a few steps away from the church and village green. The breakfast was very good, with a hot and cold buffet and the option to order fresh hot food from the kitchen.

Bathroom was fine, but perhaps not the same high standard as the bedroom. The site warns of possible disturbance due to functions, but the bar music was turned off promptly at 10.30pm. Unfortunately some fairly loud guests took their conversations outside, which happened to be right under our window. One of the those marginal calls where perhaps not bad enough to raise it with reception, yet annoyingly present until well after midnight.

Location was excellent as were the staff especially the lady on reception. The food was also very good and the room had everything I required.

There was little or no soundproofing in the bedroom so I could hear the conversations of people in the bar below. Literally every word they spoke. Also I could hear awful music all through the night too. Such a shame as if you cannot sleep it spoils the whole experience.

On the plus side - great location, first-class staff, good meals, easy parking, wonderful grounds on a sunny day. On the minus side - building needs some attention. Bedroom carpet was threadbare ( this should be replaced automatically in a 4 star hotel without need for a guest review ). The main problem was the noise from the plumbing - appears to need major attention. Regular noise from pipes for no reason in the middle of the night, disturbing sleep, - sounded like a smoke alarm battery but obviously air in plumbing. Then, when an adjoining room is running bath or shower, the pipes just scream for the duration that the water is running. This did not overly spoil stay in a lovely building, but it does need some money spending on it for 4 star rating. Small village of Alfriston is delightful - visit ' Much Ado' bookshop by the tree in the middle of the road in the village centre.

This was the BEST hotel I have stayed at. I honestly could not fault anything about our stay. We were made to feel so welcome throughout our time there and all the staff were exceptional. Special mention to James who served us in the restaurant on Monday, who was incredibly friendly, helpful and polite and the lovely ladies working at breakfast Tuesday and Wednesday morning. The room was really comfortable. We had a twin room, which had a lovely view of the garden, and was plenty big enough for us and the dogs. The restaurant food was very good and breakfast was really delicious! The open fires made everything so perfect and very autumnal. We had our 2 dogs with us and they were also treated so well by all the staff and made a fuss of. Nothing was too much trouble and I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to stay with your dog. I will be booking again in the future as two nights here just wasn’t enough!

Nothing.

Hotel was clean and really welcoming, lovely dining room, bar and plenty of room to sit and relax. Felt really homely in a good way. Staff were polite, friendly and welcoming. Very efficient. Delicious dinner and breakfast with lots to eat, tasty and plenty of choice. Well done to the chef!

No dislike at all! . Our room could do with a little update but warm, comfortable and we knew it hadn't been refurbished so not an issue. Heating on full blast which mum loved and was better than a cold room. I found it a tad warm but we could open the window so fine. Felt guilty opening a window and being wasteful though. Lovely stay.
