The inn is a 5 minute walk from the Battle train station and a 5 minute walk from the Battle Abbey School which was the venue for the wedding we attended. The Chequers Inn was a lovely place to stay. The room was a good size for 2 and I was impressed with the en suite shower and loo. Very compact shall we say, but definitely enough room to do what you need to! The bed was comfy and the room was very nice. Tea and coffee provisions provided in the room and we were given a top up in the morning without having to find someone to ask, as is frequently the case in chain hotels. All the staff we met were very welcoming and happy to help. Provided an iron and ironing board when we realised we forgot our travel one! We had breakfast on both the mornings we were there and I definitely recommend. Nice beer garden and outside seating. It was also so lovely to stay somewhere with so much history. I would just warn about the low ceilings in the corridor as my partner did bomp his noggin (nothing to do with drinking champagne for 8 hours, honest lol) Definitely recommend staying here.

I really don't think there was anything wrong with our stay. Maybe provide crash hats to those over 5'7" lol

Visiting family who live in Battle so location perfect for me. Staff friendly and helpful. Room spacious and clean. Kettle and plenty of tea, coffee and milk in room. It is a pub so a little noise was expected from downstairs, but once pub was closed it was extremely quiet and I had a good night's sleep. Didn't stay for breakfast so cannot comment.

Nothing that could have been changed, just due to the age of the building I think - there was a rather pungent smell of damp in the shower/toilet room, although there was no actual damp. It was very small but clean and well supplied with toiletries.

It was a welcoming, cosy and pleasingly individual pub. We loved the eclectic mix of furniture and historic objects d’art scattered around. Staff were attentive. The menu was interesting and the food very good and a cut above the usual. We recommend the pub and would stay there again. We only had one night booked but our large, airy room would have been very comfortable for a longer stay. The pub was a short, pleasant walk from the centre of town and Battle Abbey.

Nothing.

Helpful staff, inspired menu, historical building comes with its own charm (and reduced height doorways so "mind your head"), great location for a walk through the battleground & Abbey.

I may have concussed myself on a doorway or two but that didn't detract from the overall experience. Due to the age of the building, the bathroom hallway in my room had a slight slope that may be difficult to navigate when wet for anyone with mobility issues.

It's an ancient, funky, characterful inn with the exposed beams, low ceilings and uneven floors that you expect. This is mixed with a hip modern decor and music, and it works beautifully. Staff are fantastic, the food great, the location perfect for exploring on foot, and the carpark extra convenient.

Really, it was fantastic. If you take your drinks to relax INSIDE the ancient fireplace, just mind your head. Highly recommended.

I came cycling from London, I needed a good meal and a nice place to stay after a long day and I wasn't disappointed, it was perfect after cycling more than 100km. Nicely decorated room. Very good food in the pub. Old historic house. Nice staff, helpful people. Walking distance from the Battle Abbey, good location.

Very small bathroom - can't be smaller...

Very quaint place - full of history and it was cosy in the pub - nice atmosphere They had a good choice of cocktails. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. One of the rooms was very nice - large and well equipped - the cozy double not so good.

We booked two rooms. the triple was £120 -that room was very good - large and a nice size bathroom with everything you would want. However the second 'cosy double' wasn't so cozy and at £100 felt overpriced. The shower room was tiny and full of mosquitos. At bedtime the shower room was emanating an awful smell and we had to get staff to come to the room to try sorting it out. It was very disruptive and it affected our enjoyment of the place. It was a shame they didn't offer a discount to residents to eat in the pub - this would encourage more business. . As it was we decided to eat out and didn't even have breakfast. A missed opportunity from them, I would say..

Location was excellent. Evening meal was really really good. All the staff were cheerful and helpful.

We had a lovely room but the shower was over the bath, which unfortunately was too high for me to get into. No Wi-Fi in bedroom which was a bit of a nuisance, but it was good downstairs.

A very warm welcome - real hospitality. We arrived early and were able to check into our room before the usual time. The food in the evening and at breakfast was delicious. The ambience is very inviting and historic. The room was cosy and warm, plenty of space for our things. A good hot shower in the morning.

Nothing, everything was excellent.
