Riverside Guest Lodge

Stay 02/28/24 - 03/01/24 With the Riverside Guest Lodge, Elza and Albert have created a great place to stay where you feel completely comfortable. Very nice, friendly hosts who have managed to create an oasis of well-being with a special taste for the interior, but also for the beautiful outdoor area with terrace, whirlpool and meadow up to the river bank. Even our rental car was washed free of charge by one of their employees. One of the most beautiful guesthouses on our trip of several weeks in SA. We have felt very comfortable here. We will definitely book with Elza and Albert again on a future stop in Oudtshoorn. Eckhard and Maria Germany

The guest house exceeded our expectations. The owners were welcoming and very informative with a lovely personal touch. We couldn't believe the size of our room and bathroom. The decor everywhere was wonderfully done, with a homely vibe. The patio/decking area is lovely and set high above the garden below. It almost felt as if you were in the middle of nowhere when you were seated on it. The breakfast was wonderful and there was an honesty bar too.

That we only had 1 night there! We would have liked a fridge in the room just because we were travelling around and had bottles of water with us that we would have liked to have kept cold. But that really was the only thing.

This property is superb in all regards. The hosts, Elza and Albert, are gracious, welcoming, and ever so helpful. We just returned from almost 3 weeks in South Africa, staying in a number of guest houses. Riverside was our most enjoyable stay. We regretted not having booked a longer stay at this wonderful establishment. The attention to detail in all matters of the accommodation are quite remarkable, really. This is a must stay when in the Outdshoorn/George area. The breakfast room and fare were very upscale without feeling stuffy. Food was delicious!

There was honestly nothing we disliked.

An overnight stop, quickly checked in after arriving at 4pm onto the beautiful sunny deck, soon with a cold beer in hand (honestly bar) and sank into the plunge pool within moments of arriving. Deck (overlooking gardens and river) sunshine finished with sunset and we had good meal nearby. Excellent breakfast next day, again on sunny deck, visited the Outshoorne Museum and on our way to CT. Lots of reasons to spend longer here but we had to move on. Engaging hosts have all local info, fantastic directions about how to arrive, very professional. Rooms are very comfortable. We even had our car cleaned in their little (secure) car parking space. Nice touches with water provided and sweets in room.

Our hosts Elza and Albert were very friendly and accommodating. The Riverside Guest Lodge is a perfect place with nice panoramic views – especially from the little cottages towards the old suspension bridge. Our lovely cottage with a spacy balcony and a cosy fireplace was neat and very well equipped. The Riverside Guest Lodge is situated in a great safe neighbourhood with close proximity to many sightseeings, shops, restaurants and nature attractions (by car). Each morning we were pampered with tasty breakfasts. The numerous recommendations and MUST SEES - to visit a nearby Ostrich farm, the famous Cango Caves, Swartberg Pass, Prince Albert, Weltevrede Fig & Guest Farm, the UNESCO World Heritage Site Meiringspoort Waterfall and also joining a meerkat adventure - were so special and exciting. What a great unexpected service to get our car washed by a Riverside Guest Lodge staff member in the early morning - especially after our dusty Swartberg Pass trip - thanks! We loved our stay and definitely would like to return asap. I’m not even sure where to begin. Communication was always excellent. The customer service they provide is unparalleled to none. You are welcomed before you ever hit their property. Check in was a breeze and we were provided with a map, brochures and excellent advice. Our room was beautiful and so comfortable. The bed comfy with multiple pillow choices, a well appointed wet room with lotions and shampoos. No worries about load sharing because they have their own solar system with batteries. The breakfast is filling and exceptionally made with many choices. The bar is fully stocked and the deck is a beautiful place to sit and watch the stars come out at night. They even made reservations for us on a busy Sat pm since we failed to do so. Everything is carefully thought out and it certainly made our stay feel like home away from home. We had a truly amazing stay at the Riverside Guest Lodge during our two-week vacation in South Africa! Albert and Elza are innkeepers that take great pride in the property and in what they do. This shows through 1000% in the experience guests receive when they book a stay. Prior to check-in, you receive information such as directions to the property, road conditions, and any diversion / closure warnings that are a huge help to the international traveller. The property itself is beautiful and well-placed, settled close to the main thoroughfare and up against a quaint little river. I really enjoyed lounging on the deck by the small pool and grabbing a couple of drinks from the well-stocked bar. The dining room was also very charming, even though we did not have time to enjoy breakfast. The guest room itself was also supremely comfortable and clean - a perfect resting place after a long day's drive and adventuring. Little touches like the bottle of water and chocolates, the honesty-system at the bar, and even the welcome 'tour' we got from Albert really made this place feel so welcoming and homely. Finally, the fact that they have solar panels setup means you barely, if ever, feel the effects of loadshedding -- a very very welcome benefit! Check-out was smooth and went off without a hitch. I was also pleasantly surprised that there was staff on hand that would give the cars a wash-down which we sorely needed after a few days of driving on gravel roads. I certainly would recommend this place to anyone visiting or passing through Oudtshoorn.

Everything. The hosts go above and beyond to welcome you and to provide an extra special stay. Your needs are catered for. Lots of extra touches, a tot of sherry each, pre warmed beds if needed, water for the room put ready before bedtime plus chocolates. Lovely toiletries. The deck overlooking the river and garden and the swing seat by the river in the shade of a tree were delightful. Even a telescope for stargazing. The bar and lounge area are lovely. Decor is traditional and in keeping with the lodge style of the building. Breakfast was delicious. Walkable distance to restaurants. Highly recommend.

Everything was good.

We enjoyed everything about our stay at Riverside. Albert and Elza were amazing hosts that have an exceptional attention for detail, we have rarely seen such high level of hospitality! The room was extremely clean, we received small snacks at our arrival we really appreciated, the honesty bar was the cherry on top, together with the big terrace and the stunning view to relax and have a beer. We also received great recommendations for restaurants.

Nothing, it was truly a terrific stay and we wish we could have stayed longer.

Albert was very welcoming and proudly showed us around the property. Great room including a welcome drink and snack (incl. also tea and coffee facilities, but no fridge). Beautiful open deck area for evening drinks and breakfast. Excellent honesty bar. Small but good breakfast selection including also cooked options. Load shedding was not an issue. Secure off-street parking at the property. Safe area (also at night). Great location, close to the main street and nicest restaurants.

Absolutely nothing... Wish we had booked more than one night!
