Legendary Porto Hotel

Room - 9/10. Clean and spacious room, a little noisy since our window looked out onto a landmark church and some markets but it didn’t bother us in the evening. Location - 10/10. We were just a few minutes walk from central Porto and the main central station, it was so convenient walking everywhere! Service - 10/10. Staff were friendly and there were no issues :)

Location is excellent for exploring Porto. We found the buffet breakfast to be of superb quality and very good value: the selection of food was really good with lots of fresh fruit and nice breads & guests were directed to specific tables as they arrived, something that worked very well as the hotel was busy. Staff at reception desk were most helpful and pleasant as were staff in breakfast room.

Our room was on the fifth floor and to the front of the hotel. When the window was open at night there was a lot of noise from traffic etc outside. Next time, I'd ask for a room on other side of corridor. Also, on one night we had very noisy neighbours in an adjoining room and we could not sleep until after 2.30 am; this was not hotel's fault, however..........

The TV did not work, it just turned on randomly, I was not able to switch channels, sometimes there was no picture. When the doorcard was in the holder, there was an irritating noise which disturbed my sleep.

Everything was amazing. Buffet breakfast was very good. All staff were very friendly and all welcoming and went out of their way to help. Big bathroom and room was clean. Highly recommend it and definitely we will return. Thanks

Overall the hotel and facilities were very good. Only had breakfast once (personal choice as many good cafes in area) but was very nice. Staff helpful - rooms very well serviced. So lovely to come back to a clean and tidy room every day. Good position for exploring the whole city. Very enjoyable stay.

The lifts. Very hit and miss as to whether they worked or not. Very loud music from a venue next door on 2 afternoons/early evening - disturbing if wanting an afternoon rest (probably not under control of hotel and at least quiet at night)

Excellent hotel. The room (2 twin beds) was big and comfortable. It was a fifth floor room with a balcony which provided an excellent view of the surrounding plaza. The breakfast was very good with a wide variety of options. Staff was very knowledgeable about the sights and helpful with everything. They arranged a 5:30am taxi pickup on the day of departure to take us to the airport. Everyone was very nice. The location is good as most of the important sights in the central area are within a 12-15 minute walk. Though beware that to get to and from the area around the river you are going to be going up and down a lot of steps.

There were two elevators that were very small and only effectively fit two people apiece so sometimes waiting for an elevator can take a little bit. But it's not a big deal at all. Otherwise there are stairs right next to the elevators and you've already walked around hilly Porto so a few more steps aren't a big deal!

We had quiet, clean room #422 located in the rear per our prior request (thank you). To our pleasant surprise it has a small balcony with a small table and chairs overlooking the old town. This hotel is conveniently located within about 80 meter slightly down-hill walking distance to the Sao Bento main train station, but does not have any of the noise that may be associated with being close to a train station. You can park across from the hotel for a few minutes to walk across the street to drop off luggage at the hotel. The front of the hotel is located on a plaza with a nice blue-tile facade church and a dance performance city theatre and other theatre. A post office is located about 100 meters away. Uphill on the street to the right of the church about 200 meters up is a MiniPreco well-stocked grocery store and several good restaurants. Best to avoid a couple of trendy fusion restaurants and bars. We always look for the local restaurants with great Portuguese dishes, low-priced soups, and our lunch-time snack, toasted cheese and ham sandwiches, yum,yum. The restaurant next to the hotel entry is very good. The nearest parking garage is about 100 meters away (18 Euro but hotel discount makes it 15 Euros/day). Another parking garage further away is cheaper but longer to walk if you have luggage. Both feel far away when you drive because of the numerous one way streets. We stayed here one year ago and 5 years ago and like this location of the city which is within reasonable walking distance of all the main sights and the 25 meter walk to a nice multi-block shopping street.

We wish breakfast was included with the hotel fee.

The location was ideal. Closer to many tourist attractions and shopping. The room was clean, bed was comfortable. However, I had difficulty figuring out the AC controller. However, I figured out after the first night.

Room was relatively small. After I came back, I checked the invoice and noticed they (mistakenly?) charged for breakfast twice (charged for breakfast separately and then added to the hotel invoice). I think this is a genuine mistake, but you better check the receipts before leaving the hotel (applicable to any hotel stay).

Very good location with several restaurants, cafes and supermarkets close by. We were able to walk to most of the tourist attractions. Also, the hotel is close to public transportation for easy access from the train station when we arrived from Aveiro and to the airport to catch our departure flight back home. Friendly staff in general. The check-in went great (thanks to the reception staff for granting us a free extra hour to check out). Loved the buffet breakfast as well with several meal options available and the restaurant staff were helpful and eager to help. Room 423 was spacious with a balcony and views of the city. Wifi worked very well. Highly recommended.
