Hotel Dom Joao IV

The hotel was good for it's price. It provides all that you need in order to have somewhere to sleep and explore the general area. The parking in the front wasn't that big but the free municipal parking nearby serves really well. The rooms were clean and the staff really helpful, especially when it came to some issues with the locals.

The humidity ruining the ceiling is something that should be taken care of in the near future as it can a turnover for some, especially if they are sensitive to this during sleep. The parking spots in front of the hotel need some better organization so that more cars can fit in there.

The location next to the train station and bus stops for the buses to and from historic Guimaraes, it's also a reasonable walk, if you don't mind the climb on the way back! The staff in the hotel are very polite and helpful, the rooms are a bit dated but everything works and is well maintained. Breakfast is good with a range of cheese, meat, bread and pastries. There are a restaurant and a cafe either side of the hotel and a few metres walk away another bar and restaurant. I thought the hotel was good value for money too.

The hotel is noisy at times, I'm not sure if much can be done because of the age of the building but if the rooms could be better soundproofed it would help.

The hotel staff is exceptionally nice! The receptionist'll willingly help you, but at the same time, you'll not be disturbed in any way. My room was very clean, with a comfortable bed and an AC (which was a life-saver during hot days). Regarding the location - the hotel is close to the city center and the bus station. I highly recommend this place (especially taking into account the price) :)

This is a very nice and comfortable hotel in a good location. The room was clean, airy, full of natural light and spacious, and it had a small fridge The continental breakfast was very correct (paistery, fruits, very good bread, cereal, yogurt, eggs, coffee and tea, industrial juices, sausages, ham, cheese, jams and butter). The staff is very friendly and the relation price-quality just excellent.

Literally a 1 minute walk from Guimarães train station. Friendly helpful staff, who also spoke English, when checking in. The room and bathroom where spotlessly clean. Probably one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in, with clean, crisp white bed linen. A bonus was that the night in the hotel, was so, so quiet, you're guaranteed a good night sleep. Brilliant selection for breakfast the following day. I'd definitely stay here again.

The staff were very helpful and there English was good which helped us. The location was good. Not right in the old town, but an easy walk. The breakfast was good and was filling. The property is older, but clean and in good condition. The area was quiet. I would say very good value

The property is older so doesn't have as many electrical outlets for charging as we would have liked but we managed OK.

Location was good.

The rooms were open with no privacy. We thought that one room had two single beds and the other the double, but the main room had a double and single bed and the other single bed was on the other room connected to each other without privacy. Good for a couple with kids but not good for four adults

Plenty of space in a very clean room. An ideal location (almost directly opposite the railway station) if you're travelling by public transport. Very comfortable bed. Lots of hot water. Plenty of electric charging points. Staff speak English. Lots of restaurant choices in the town centre ten minutes' walk away. I would stay here again (rather than in more expensive town-centre options). Recommended.

There are no great views, so don't pay extra for this option if it's offered.

I had a single person room with a balcony overlooking the train station. Double sliding glass doors made the room super quiet. Check in was easy and fast as was check out. The front desk held my bags for me on departure while I had lunch and arranged my onward travel. Excellent value in a fantastic city.

The hotel is right next to the train station, so easy to get to/from the station with a big luggage. Then in a 10 min walk we were in the city center. The staff was super nice and helpful. The room is good and clean.

The doors needed an extra push to close, both the room's door, as well as the one from the bathroom. Overall it did not have a "new" look but did not expect it either. The return value was good.
