The Gateway Hotel Pasumalai Madurai

We really loved our stay at the Gateway Hotel on Pasumalai in Madurai. The property is on 63 acres of wooded area, and sits on a hill called Pasumalai - meaning "cow mountain". The view from the property is amazing. Every time we returned from our daily activities and turned into the property, I felt like I was turning into Shangri-la. The property is an old colonial style building that the team has done a very good job maintaining. There are about 60 peacocks and peahens on the property - adding to the magic of the resort. The dining area is set up very well and every meal was memorable, especially the coffee. The staff leans in to help and everyone serves with a smile. The front desk manager Pandian greeted us with a smile and checked up on us regularly to make sure that our stay was comfortable. Thanks to the whole team and staff at the Gateway Hotel.

We felt as though we had literally entered the gates of heaven. The campus is walkable, the foliage is sumptuous, and we felt blessed by peacocks roaming about, a sense of quiet history, and majestic views of the city, both day and night… including a view on the Meenakshi Temple… What a wonderful staff, specifically the front desk manager, Mani Guptan, who went way out of his way for us, helped us obtain reliable transportation to local points of interest.

Be ready to walk to the dining area from your room. The walk is beautiful, but it takes a few minutes, so you need to plan your visits there intentionally! When you get there it’s worth every second.

Hi We had a very good stay in The Gateway Pasumalai Madurai A Great & Excellent Hotel in a very beautiful location and environment, particularly with Peacocks. We enjoyed the stay started with very worm and friendly welcome by the Staff when we arrived, giving us all recommendations and advises to stay our stay memorable. Staff were there always to help with smile. Very particularly I want mention about Mr Thangapandian, a great excellent customer service and all rounder. He had answers for everything. He made sure our stay at the Hotel is memorable, he helped us in all our needs, he was there for us anytime, this is very positive for people like us return back many times and also recommending to our friends. His networking outside to help us is excellent. A great asset for the hotel. The next person helped us is the security supervisor I forgot his name, but Mr Thangapandian knows. Please give our appreciation to all of them. Two constructive improvement points - Resturant menu need more traditional Tamil Nadu food choices and who understand the local foods Next is please do better on the Drivers accommodation, the toilets and shower areas are very bad, the driver complained that it is one of the baddest experience he had over years. Because these words of mouth can damage hotels good side and reputation. Thank you Singanayagam Indrapalan

The ENTIRE TEAM was outstanding in their service ! Right from the front desk, the Front Desk Manager, the housekeeping team, the in-room dining and the restaurant staff. The way they served the guest represents a belief ! They did not do this because it is their job. They did this because they genuinely believed in making the guests feel awesome and comfortable ! Special mention to Front Desk Manager Thangapandian, Chef Muthukumar, Restaurant captain Nalram. They were constantly proactively enquiring how else they could make the stay enjoyable !! This was Service Excellence in action !

Could have had more facilities like a massage centre. Nothing else that I did not like !

Did not have breakfast at the Hotel as we drove off early. Exceptionally good view of the Madurai town, nice peacocks on the property , good location of rooms , courteous staff , nice parking space.

Being Vegetarians ,we were sorely disappointed with the very limited range of food items /preparations offered for Lunch , lack of Buffet lunch facility and the absence of North Indian or South Indian "Thali" lunch system. Whatever we 5 members finally ordered for and were offered was tasty . Driver's need to be provided some accommodation too overnight .

The location and the property was fantastic. The sprawling gardens was the reason we wanted to rest here for 2 days. The weather luckily was fantastic and we spent enough time outdoors with the peacocks. The staff were courteous and helpful. We had a kid and and infant, and we had good support. Our 5 year old found enough friends among the hotel staff and spent evenings doing playing and colouring. Overall, we liked the property.

The baby cot provided was not working and was a metal old cot with improper hinges. Need more attention to facilities provided.

Greatly impressed by Service by Vinoth Sundar who could be contacted 24 hours, even during off -periods to intimate my preferences and change in program. Vinoth makes Taj real home-stay for us during years of working with him at Pasumaiali. At Dining hall , Service by Subal & Avishek are exceptional. Both service and adoption of local etiquettes by Subal and Avishek are unforgettable with pleasing personalities.

Stayed for a night wih my pet dog. Beautiful place on top of the hill with wonderful view. Very pleasant and welcoming staff. I was pleasantly surprised by the reception I received for for my pet as well. Room equipped with per bed and bowl was a very nice gesture in welcoming our furry babies. Took a room with a garden where my dog ran and played. Over all wonderful stay and it was beyond my expectations. Lucky to see peacocks freely roaming around. Will visit again for sure..

Breakfast options were less . Food was okay.

The property is excellent and very quite. Its located on a hill in the middle of the city but is very peaceful and huge. We loved the rooms and the staff was extremely courteous. The breakfast spread was excellent an the service was very prompt at all times. We had dinner both room service and buffet and loved the options available. The room service and dinner buffet prices are very high as expected in a 5 star property.

Nothing

Book a room in the original 19th century lodge. Otherwise, they'll place you in an uninteresting, sterile, modern stucco cottage. The lodge possesses a teak veranda with soaring ceilings and sweeping views of the city down below in the plains.

Service was excellent, friendly, and very accommodating to requests. I especially thank the manager Pandian whose smile, warm character, and willingness to accommodate, made the experience truly unique.
