JUFA Hotel Kronach – Festung Rosenberg

Exciting experience sleeping in a fortress. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Room was clean, big and comfortable (although I wish they would have been better matched to their surroundings and NOT as modern as they are). Missed opportunity in my humble opinion. No AC in the rooms but it's bearable in this kind of building. Breakfast was very good, bread from local bakery, etc. The guided tour was great (although only in German). Tour tickets also enable you to visit the museum in the fortress with some amazing artwork and sculptures.

Confusing with signage at arrival first. Unloading/loading of luggage is not being handled (yet?). A caddy driver needs to be hired or at least you should be allowed to drive up with your car to unload. This place is aimed at families and international travelers, so I was surprised to see this not being serviced. Very steep long walk over cobblestones and gravel path. If you have rolling suitcases, it's not very pleasant. Tour tickets should be available for purchase at hotel reception (and not just at entrance of the fortress.) I also didn't care for those lumpy pillows.

Breakfast was excellent, far in excess of expectations. The room was pretty, clean, so spacious and had wonderful views. Very well set out for a family of 4. Good hot water in the shower, and a fantastic playground that the kids (10 and 12) loved.

The luggage transfer service was unavailable to us on the day we arrived, and staff didn't know if it would be available on the day we were leaving. Luggage must be pulled through tunnels, over gravel, up cobblestone roads, and finally up a steep, skinny timber staircase. There was a lift to the bedroom floor. Also, no food or snacks was available for purchase in the hotel for children.

Me and my son made a tour around Fränkische Alp to look at castles and other historical landmarks. We also stayed in some of the castles. We are more into castles of a more "medieval" character, but even though this castle is more of a 17th century fort it still gave us plenty of cool atmosphere. However, this account for the exterior. The interior, especially the rooms, are completely modern. But as the room was very nice and clean it did not bother us. The castle is well situated near the historical old town with several various restaurants serving also more 'modern' food (We ate at a Greek). The staff was helpful, the room clean, and the breakfast was good. If you are interested in castles we suggest to also take a trip to the castle Veste Coburg further to the West. It has an amazing museum of old arms and armoury.

There was a rather long (300m) uphill walk from the parking lot, and it was difficult to pull trolleys over the rough ground (The hotel offers a baggage transfer service if arriving earlier during the day. We arrived too late, at around 7).

location, climate, views, service :) - it was an amazing night spent in a real medieval castle

only one small point - no air conditioning in the room (I traveled on a very hot day in the summer, despite the castle's unusually thick walls, it was too hot inside)

Location is great, just inside the fortress. Facilities are all renovated, rooms are very big for the European hotel standard size point of view. Despite the COVID-19 hygenic measures (gloves and masks to be wear in the common area), breakfast was very well orginised and with plenty of choices.

Nothing, just to be aware of: - Indications to get to the hotel are scarce, specially if you come at night. - There is also no lift to get to the hotel, this is nothing to do with the hotel itself but with the fortress presevation. We were anyway well aware of it prior to our arrival.

Atmosphere of the Festung and room design were unique. Restaurant in front of the hotel was great too.

We've arrived with rain and walking to the hotel with luggage was a bit unlikely.

Fantastic location and great staff. Good breakfast.

Parking information and the long way to get to the hotel. However it's still a minor issue and a beautiful place.

A really great place 👏 to stay . & the beer garden is just fantastic. Food out of this world & they have there own beer just brewed for the castle
