L'abbaye is absolutely charming, the surroundings and the small village of Tonnerre are beautiful. We very much appreciated how well this place full of history was being kept and taken care of. Our room exceeded our expectations and the breakfast basket in front of the door was a great idea. The breakfast was one of the nicest we had in France and the fact that you could have a picnic in the terrace and enjoy the view while having breakfast was a nice surprise. All in all, I highly recommended this place and we will definitely come back.

We picked L'abbaye Saint Michel at the recommendation of a local friend. We had the garden room for 3 nights. The grounds are lovely. The room was comfortable and large. The rooms have been redone and the décor is charming and uplifting. The bed and pillows were comfortable and the staff friendly (and they spoke perfectly adequate English). We delighted in waling the grounds and the rounds around the L'abbaye. We also very much enjoyed the restaurant and bar. Breakfast was srved every day in a basket outside our room and we ate it in the garden and in the little nook area looking into the garden. The breakfast were plentiful and good.

Sadly, it’s a tad run down.

We cannot recommend more highly! The setting above the town is stunning with gorgeous views and so peaceful. The hotel is a gorgeous mix of old and modern twist with beautiful stone floors and a cave like restaurant. The room was large and spacious and we made the most of the stone plunge pool, so relaxing! The food in the restaurant was delicious, particularly the fillet of Charolay beef. I cannot tell you how impressed we were and the value for money!

We enjoyed our 3-day stay here. This place is just so cute and serene. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, working around the clock to make everyone comfortable. We also recommend reserving a table for dinner because the food and the cocktails are worth it.

It's not that we didn't like the pool, but the pool is very very small. It's more the size of a big jacuzzi than a pool.

Very unique converted stone abbey hotel located above the town of Tonnerre with amazing views. Bedroom was very big with very unusual stylish decor. The restaurant was very good as was the bar - great surroundings, lovely staff and very good food and service. In the morning breakfast came in the form of a hamper outside your room at the time requested with tea/coffee pods, fresh juice and fruit, yoghurts and warm croissants/bread and jams, plates and table cloth and napkin. You could have breakfast in your room or were told you could take it in the garden or really where you wanted to eat it. The reception area was impressive with motorbikes on display, unusual paintings and beyond a clothes shop. I would definitely go back.

Nothing to dislike.

Lovely venue, very chic and stylish, perfect views overlooking the nearby town, great food and fantastic wine! Staff was super friendly and made us feel very welcome.

Kitchen closed for lunch by 1:30pm… we arrived at 2pm after a 700km+ long journey on motorbikes and had to wait until 7pm to get any food… No AC in the rooms, which made it a bit of a challenge at 35 degrees heat outside. But a fan was available in the room, which helped

We loved staying at L’abbaye. Beautifully restored in a very personal relaxed cool style. We had dinner at the restaurant in the evening- and the food, service, drinks and atmosphere was magic! We felt very welcome. We will definitely be back!

A unique property in a beautiful setting. Despite this being low season (and we were aware the restaurant was closed during the week) Alice prepared a stunning plate of cheeses, charcuterie and fruit. Breakfast was equally delicious. Don’t expect a ‘standard’ country hotel, L’abbaye Saint Michel offers a special charm of its own.

Fantastic place to stay, room was amazing with loads of character and we loved the indoor pool. We weren't able to use the restaurant or bar as they are closed several days of the week so worth checking before if you want to eat there as well.

We'd have loved to use the restaurant or bar but unfortunately was shut the day we stayed.

The building is super charming and the interior is super fashionable / stylish. The room was great with good facilities and the breakfast was amazing.

We booked it under the impression that we could have diner onsite (we were with a small baby so that would be convenient). However - when arrived we found that the restaurant and the bar was only open during the weekend.
