Hôtel La Fontaine Caen Centre

We needed an overnight stay before catching the ferry back to the UK. This is a budget hotel but had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It was excellently located in the centre of Caen but very quiet and safe at night. The hotel was convenient for shops and restaurants and the staff were nice

We didn't realise that the nearby car park recommended by the hotel was locked overnight and couldn't get back in when we wanted to retrieve our car for an early morning ferry check-in. Luckily we were rescued by the cleaner who paid for the parking on his own card when ours wasn't accepted. We advise anyone needing to leave the car park before 7 to check how to get out the night before.

A welcoming hotel in the centre of Caen with secure covered storage for bicycles. The owner was friendly and most helpful providing useful information on what to visit and and where to eat in Caen. The buffet breakfast was good with a wide selection of food on offer. The hotel is an excellent choice for an extended stopover or weekend in Caen.

There was nothing we did not like.

the proprietor was a really nice guy who even carried our bag up to the third floor, we could also make a hot drink at any time of the day which was really great. the breakfast was fine tea, coffee, fruit juice and the usual croissants with ham and cheeses and cereals.

nothing really, the owner even offered to move us to a different floor as my wife has a bad knee, how kind was that!

Warm welcome from Mathieu, who kindly helped us up the stairs with our luggage. Room small but clean and quiet. Comfortable bed, good bed linen. Bathroom was well designed, super shower - great! Breakfast was excellent.

Nothing wrong. A lift would have been helpful for getting luggage up to the top floor, but we knew in advance there was no lift and were not deterred.

We arrived early evening via the train and were exhausted. The host met us in the reception room and check-in was quick! He helped with bags to our room on the top floor. Bed was comfortable and pillows were good. Towels were nice (body towels only). It was quiet for the most part. Shower was good with hot water!

We didn't mind it, but the top floor rooms are about 60 steps up. Room was small (bathroom door opened right up into the bed) but was expected. TV was on the side wall instead of being in front of the bed, which was kind of awkward. The room was mainly clean except for a small hairball behind the bed side table that was seen when plugging in my cell phone charger.

Very centrally located, very clean and comfortable. The owner was very welcoming and helpful. As in most hotels in France, there was no kettle etc in the room, however an excellent coffee / tea machine was in the dining area for free use at any time until 10 pm. Breakfast was excellent

There was nothing we disliked

Wonderful stay at Hotel La Fontaine Caen. It is well located near shops, cafes and restaurants. We were able to walk everywhere. The room was roomy, light-filled and quite comfortable.

Its great that coffee was available throughout the day. We had an early train one day and would have appreciated coffee before we left (before 6am)

This was an amazing hotel in a beautiful city. Great location, close to tons of food, sites, shopping and cheap parking (seriously, less than €5 for 14 hours overnight?!); amazing and friendly, informative staff (and their littlest member of the management team is adorable!); and incredibly comfortable rooms - the bed was divine! Breakfast has only a few options, but the options it has are truly delicious, and the coffee machine in the lobby is available til 2200 - it is worth the journey up and down the stairs. Within walking distance you have a square with some small play equipment for kiddos and the streets are *mostly* car free do I felt safe letting my toddler walk around. There are also some cool historical sites and churches close. TL;DR - Book. This. Hotel. NOW!

The only thing that my mom missed were face/hand towels. But I will bring my own from home next time we stay. And trust me, there will be a next time we stay in this marvelous establishment.

This accommodation was a great choice. The owners were lovely and they offered us great advice in organising our visits around Caen. The room was very comfortable, facing a street right in the centre of Caen but very quiet at the same time. I would always recommend it to my family and friends.

While the room was a little on the small side it was very functional. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The shower is fantastic, after two weeks of travel and some extremely lame examples , felt great.

I think our only complaint is the parking situation, ended up costing 18 euro per night of stay.
