Hotel Aranjuez

Nice accommodation in the middle of town, well located to walk to downtown and Barrio Escalante. We felt safe, but we were there without a car. The hotel garden is green and quiet, the staff very nice. What we liked the most was the rich and varied breakfast!

As good as the grounds, staff and breakfast were: We didn't particularly like our room as it was inside to the hallways and close to the reception. It was very dark, stuffy and warm (but had a fan) and you could hear everything from outside. The bathroom could use renovation, the furnishings were rather rustic and simple, though spacious. It was okay for 1-2 nights. We would give the room a "6", everything else a "10".

Breakfast was very good and the patio cafe is super pretty, the location is walking distance to the city, the hotel and rooms are charming. Staff were helpful and kind.

The rooms are dated (but still charming), the bathrooms could use a good remodeling or more maintenance as the fixtures are old and in my room I didn't have hot water access in the sink. The lights are quite dim in the bathroom and room. The water pressure in the shower was very low and the hot water is lukewarm for just a few minutes. For the time I stayed 2 nights total, it was fine for the short stay as I wasn't in the room very much.

Hotel Aranjuez is located in a very nice area, some 15mins (safe) walking distance north of Plaza de Democracia. It has a jungle like garden in the backyard with flying birds and squirrels running around. Breakfast is also served there (the best we had in 3 weeks in Costa Rica) so you can already experience some "wild life" while being in the capital city. Rooms were very clean and quite spacious. Staff was really nice and helpfull.

Due to the small window facing the backyard the room was a bit dark and damp.

Really nice room, just off the garden. Huge bed and comfortable. Nicely decorated and furnished room. Safe in the room. Bathroom and shower worked fine. The breakfast room was a good size, with part of it in the garden. Good choice of breakfast food. Lovely staff in the restaurant. Eggs cooked to choice. Lots of alternatives to eat; cereals; yoghurts; fresh fruit; pastries; bread; choice of hot food. The restaurant next door was a really good - open in the evenings for dinner. It was a side street, so a bit quieter than the main town centre. Reception staff really helpful. Laundry could be arranged via reception. Short walk (appx 10 minutes) to the central avenues. I would stay there again.

I wasn't keen on the papier mache figures and heads. Some quite macabre. I don't think they added anything to the hotel. I would have liked access to a better paper map at the hotel. I didn't have roaming data and managed to get lost a few times!

We liked our room. We liked dinner in the little place next to the hotel. Breakfast was fine.

The bed was a little bit uncomfortable because it appears not to have a single king mattress, but two mattresses together, and that makes it uncomfortable right in the middle. We suggest improving Gallo Pinto for breakfast. We also suggest that the front desk man be more friendly, attentive, and charismatic.

Great location in Barrio Escalante, the Hipster district of San Jose with many great restaurants and a farmers Market on Saturdays basically next door. The hotel was decorated beautifully with traditional Costa Rican masks and the rooms were clean and spacy. The breakfast was exceptional with Omelettes freshly made and fresh fruit, even pancakes with different toppings. Wow!!!

It was pretty loud, we could not sleep because at night a group of people arrived and they were really loud, in the morning it started at 5 already with the people leaving and waking up. Also there was no hot water in the shower, which was not a huge deal for us but it could be for some.

Lovely hotel with a great location for walking to central San Jose and to the trendy restaurant and bar neighbourhood Barrio Escalante. The hotel consists of lots of buildings joined together giving it a lovely charming quality, which is served by excellent staff all round. The great breakfast is served in a lovely setting, out on a terrace surrounded by a lovely garden with lots of local wildlife. -For the price it was very very fair.

The only thing i’d say is the rooms need a bit of spruce up, I found quite a few Moth larvae crawling around, and a few of the fittings were a bit shoddy - but nothing a good clean couldn’t sort

Breakfast was one of the best we had during our trip through Costa Rica, really great quality and everything freshly made. We also really enjoyed the terrace/open space with the garden - the plants and animals (birds and squirrels) that you can watch while eating ! Architecturally speaking it's a really nice place and they have nice decoration+art.

Warm welcome. Lovely comfortable room and especially bed. Nice big shower. Lovely setting with plants areas separating rooms. Interesting collection of giant masks. Unique decor. Beautiful semi-outdoor breakfast area onlooking garden with birds and squirrels. Very good buffet breakfast - lots of choice including eggs cooked to order. Good storage facility for baggage.Also connects internally with its own bar and restaurant. Very pleased overall.

Nothing really

The staff were so friendly and helpful and the breakfast was outstanding! The restaurant right next door is the best place i have ever dined in. The dishes were inspired by the owner and I recommend eating at the bar and chatting to him , as he is a food genius!

The hotel can't faulted, nothing to not like. Didn't feel safe walking around locally, needed an uber to go into town for shops ... but that's not the hotels fault !
