The Champlain Waterfront Hotel, an Ascend Hotel Collection

From the moment we walked into this hotel, we were impressed. Friendly welcome from the receptionist, and we found our room to be well-presented. Very comfortable beds, and the bathroom was spotless. Large TV straight opposite the main bed. We ate at the neighbouring pub, and would recommend this to anyone, because the food and drink there is excellent (huge portions) and a discount is offered to hotel guests. Breakfast is good -- but any place that has a make-your-own waffle-maker gets my vote! Great location for the waterfront area, too.

The car park is a little bit tight, but I think this will improve as the significant waterfront development in Orillia progresses. This is a very minor gripe, though.

We were visiting a family member in Orillia, so we had picked The Champlain Waterfront for its location which is right next to the lake, the main street and a good sized Metro grocery store. We were delighted with the hotel itself. Check in was effortless, the staff were friendly, the room was clean and super comfortable, and the adjoining bar/restaurant Fionn MacCool's was exactly what we needed to unwind after a long day of travelling. We will definitely be staying again on our next trip to Orillia, we loved it.

We can't actually fault our stay!

We stayed because of emergency an needed to go to the hospital. 4 mons down the road. Chellie a staff member say my anxiety and helped and rush me to my room. I appreciate her understanding and making me feel welcome. Great location for every thing you need.

Some of the extra changes like marketing tax. I pay you to market to me ...lol plus city tax ok but then another community tax. The rate plus plus.

Lobby staff were very courteous and friendly. Because I had seen on line that that the prices had come down, I asked if there was a room upgrade available to us preferably on an upper floor at the same price. The staff were very accommodating and switched us to a 2nd floor room. This was much better than the lower floor.

Coffee maker did not work so my husband went to lobby for coffee and muffins.

Despite a very old fashioned look of the outside, 1) The rooms were very clean & modern. 2) The beds were comfortable & had clean linens 3) Bathrooms were nice & refreshing. 4) Very cheerful & willing to help reception staff. 5) Air-conditioning worked well. 6) Free parking was also very nice. 7) The restaurant, the service, the Staff & the food served were absolutely top notch. We were very happy to give them the highest tip.

1) The corridor walkways were extremely dirty & were never cleaned for the 4 nights we were there. A horrible sight with dust everywhere on carpets & corners. I could not understand why. 2) The location of the air conditioning units in the two rooms we stayed in were too close to the bed. If we ran them at night then we would never sleep. When we ran them during the day & cool the room then we had good sleeping time. 3) Heavy door handle usage was uncomfortable but yeah the hotel is an old unit.

The room was very well set up and had everything we needed. I liked the decor - especially the 'memories of Champlain' print which told of many past experiences back in the day at the hotel. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. The location by the waterfront was perfect.

The hotel is installing an elevator and the noise very early in the morning was loud and disruptive as were the workers. There was only one handicapped parking spot and someone without a handicap certificate took the spot ...fortunately there was one spot left but had there not been one, we would have had difficulty. It would be great if this was monitored.

Everything.

Limited parking. Maybe they could come to an agreement with Golden Wok next door to use part of their lot. Toilets are very low making it had to get up. Maybe they could add a 4- 5 " rizer seat for Seniors. Just takes a couple of minutes to install.

Room was small but very comfortable and very clean. Continental breakfast was very good.

Parking could be a bit of a problem especially if the hotel is fully booked. However, given the location and the history of the hotel this is a minor inconvenience .

It was close to the Mariposa Folk Festival venue.

Wifi was intermittent. Hotel couldn't provide a receipt due to wifi down & never emailed receipt as requested. Room was small & taken up mostly by the bed. Breakfast was not very satisfactory.

Very friendly staff, very helpful with requests as well. A good bed and clean bedding made it a good experience. I very much liked the spacious, well lighted bathroom. Overall a good experience to sleep here.

For who wants to limit its sugar intake, breakfast was limited. Coffee was good, though.
