Best Western Colonel Butler Inn

Small hotel (for a chain); we drove right past it the first time. This is not a bad thing; we like this size of hotel. Excellent location in NOTL, although a bit far to walk downtown; you can rent bicycles right next door. Staff was friendly, professional, and responsive. Bathroom is a tad small, but clean and perfectly serviceable. Hard to rate breakfast, as there was a power failure in the morning, but what we had was good. (Power failure does not affect review). Second floor verandah is a nice touch.

Refrigerator needs replacing; it didn't work right (and didn't smell nice). You pay for the location.

We really like the size of the hotel. Quaint. Friendly staff that made us feel welcome. Clean and comfortable room. Very good continental breakfast. Even the coffee is good! Solid windows kept noise out. Solid black out curtains kept light out. Dim light option in bathroom very much appropriated. Excellent shower pressure.

A safety concern: The fire door at the top of the stairs often didn't close properly. Tiny things: Crack in sink bowl. Sheer curtain was slightly broken where one panel could not connect to the track at an inside corner. Corner sink was a little tight. The faucet felt a bit short, or perhaps set too far back.

Breakfast was good. Lots of variety. Staff helpful and friendly. Tables cleaned fast. Even the shower heads were awesome. At the front desk, Lady was super nice and helpful. Answered our questions. Liked the free parking at the hotel, no trouble finding a parking spot. You have Culligan drinking water so we didn't have to buy bottled water. Lady at the front desk offered to get our water for us if we wanted. It was only down on the next floor, not long walk. It was very nice of her to offer. Cookies were a nice touch. House cleaning staff was very friendly and helpful also. They walked to the front desk and gave us a copy of our bill and took our key cards when we left. I didn't realize we could have done express check out but no waiting . Quick checkout. It has a friendly, cozy, laid back feel. Definitely would stay there again if I go to Niagara-on-the-lake. Close to The Sand Pit restaurant which is a great place to eat. Ate our lunches and dinners there.

Our room was nice and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was included in the cost, and coffee was good, and that was very important to me. The distance was a bit far from downtown, but we enjoyed the walk, so that was ok for us.

There was no elevator, and the ice machine was in the basement. Our room key card didn't work 2 times, and then we were given an actual key on the third try. It's a good thing my husband was healthy enough to go up and down the stairs that many times. ( but he was not impressed as we were tired) Breakfast was fine, but no meat at all, and eggs were in a patty.

Clean, comfortable, nice breakfast

We called 2 times to arrange payment for a room to be occupied by our guests. Your staff would not do this for us. We did not want a charge put on their credit card. Our guests paid IN CASH for the entirety of the room and we are very upset that your staff let this happen after assuring us it wouldn’t. We were more than willing to give our credit card information over the phone to pay for this room and you wouldn’t do this- said we would have to drive down and do this IN PERSON. What is the difference????Very angry and disappointed about this.

The breakfast room attendant, I think her name was Lidna, was very pleasant, welcoming and helpful. She kept everything clean and replenished. Our housekeeping Lady was also very helpful and always had a nice greeting and a smile; ready to get you anything you need. When she found out we were celebrating Mom's 90th birthday she gifted us a bottle of wine on behalf of the hotel. The Ladies at front reception also were very helpful and pleasant; one lady in particular went way beyond to make sure my Aunt got her Best Western points!

The breakfast was sufficient for us. I would say it was especially good if you didn't have dietary needs. My husband is intolerant to wheat so we brought his own bread and we were able to use the toaster. There were eggs, warm egg bites and yogurts, so plenty enough for him to eat outside of the pastries, breads and muffins. We'd gone away to celebrate our wedding anniversary and it was a lovely surprise to walk in to our room and see sparkling wine, two champagne flutes and a Happy Anniversary note (typed out by a staff member) as a gift from our daughter. She said the guy she'd spoken to was very nice and very accommodating to her request :) The location was good, not far into town and would be a reasonable walk on a nice day but as we were there on the coldest weekend of the year (polar vortex in Feb!) we drove. We found the parking to be expensive for a very short period of time and the meter only takes cash or scan on phone so be prepared if you decide to park along the high street. We didn't expect too much as it was the dead of winter, and therefore not too much was open, but we can imagine how an historic town in the middle of summer with lots of people around would be. It's a really beautiful location If you go down to Niagara Falls, take the Niagara River Parkway. It's beautiful.

The only (small) downside was the location of our room. It appeared to be above the Breakfast Room and we were woken both nights at around 4am by what sounded like chairs being scraped on the tile floor. Not too much of an issue as we did get back off to sleep but could be disturbing for some.

The Breakfasts were good , the hostess Leeda was very nice and personable with an incredible servant attitude. Made our stay memorable and looked forward to seeing her each morning. The rooms were very clean and comfortable but a little small but with all amenities still good value . This place would certainly be an option if we returned

Great hotel 15 min walk from the centre of Niagara on the Lake. Really convenient for all the local attractions. Great value and the staff were super friendly and helpful. It was also immaculately clean.

The only thing that could have been better were the size of the beds. For a family of 3 it would have been better to have had a larger king bed for my husband and I and a single for our son rather than 2 x small doubles.

It was very nice to have breakfast waiting versus having to exit and locate... ideal when not a morning person... LOL! Likewise the location was fantastic... we walked everywhere and left our car in the parking (shaded by the trees).

I would have preferred another protein option on the breakfast menu... breakfast is the most important meal when minding ones weight. Menu had quite a few carbs. Alternatively is to offer (display) low fat carb options such as low fat muffins and scones. Nonetheless, we were very satisfied with having a breakfast before exiting the hotel for the day.
