From the moment I checked in, I knew that my evening and stay would be exceptional. I traveled for work, so I made a last-minute change to stay at the Ashby Inn rather than a regular hotel. I arrived at 5:15 with a ton of work to do before my dinner reservations, and the staff let me use the library (common area) and got me a glass of Pinot Noir- not a bad way to work. Dinner was phenomenal not just because of the view while dining al fresco or the local VA wine chosen for me from the Som, but because of the delicious seasonal selections on the menu. I stayed in the East Dominion room, which was comfy & cozy as described. I will make sure to plan my work/play travels around the Ashby Inn sometime very soon, and next time I will make sure I can stay for breakfast!

The inn is very comfortable, and with tons of character. The restaurant was just splendid (for dinner and breakfast). Our room was quirky, but with a great, four-poster bed, and great views. The setting, up in the hills is also lovely.

The staircase up to the room was narrow, which made hauling luggage up difficult. Traveller's advice: pack light when visiting, small bags!

Registration staff member could use training; he was short and obviously in a hurry as his welcome was less than expected.

Breakfast was quite good. I would have chosen smaller, if on the menu. Service was excellent.

Glass coffee mugs absorb too much heat from the coffee, leaving it cool rather quickly. Although it might change the atmosphere, and I understand it not being desirable, I would have picked up a few things at a convenience store, if it had been available.

Breakfast was amazing, there were lots of options each day, and they even had several specials. We skipped lunch most days because we ate so much at breakfast! The location was good for the activities we wanted to do. The only downside is you really do have to drive everywhere (or set up transportation).

I wish that the restaurant had been open more of the time while we were there. It was closed Monday and Tuesday, and we checked in Sunday and left Wednesday AM. They could have offered turndown services.

It is a lovely inn environment, restaurant was incredible, room was charming. Grounds and location was perfect in true VA fall countryside, ...beautiful. We loved it. Very much worth it especially for dinner and breakfast.

Stairs to top 3rd floor room were steep for 76 year old couple...help with bags would have been appreciated, but we managed it and it wasn’t a negative.

The bed was extremely comfortable the staff warm and friendly. The dinner was scrumptious and morning breakfast divine. The landscape is very beautiful and peaceful

East Dominion is the only room without a bathroom inside the room. Had to leave the room to go up and down a couple steps before entering a bathroom down the hall. Like to stay in a room with a bathroom en suite

The breakfast exceeded expectations. The portions were generous, the choices reasonable and the service was on point.

The breakfast was amazing! I've stayed at numerous bed & breakfasts over the years and this was probably the best breakfast I've ever been served.
