Hampton Inn & Suites Portsmouth Downtown

Breakfast was better than other hotels stayed in. Meg was very helpful and accommodating when called before our stay and during our stay. Cindy was friendly and helpful during our stay as well A wheelchair was available for use for one of our family members. Valet parking with Jeff’s help was great.

Not receiving a rate adjustment. Rates were lowered before I checked in on 8/25 and were adjusted by The Hampton Inn upon request. I had an event planned all day on 8/26 and did not have the opportunity to inquire about a rate adjustment from Booking.com. Feel like the rate I was charged by Booking.com was overinflated and should have been matched to the lower rate charged by the Hampton Inn and Suites Downtown Portsmouth. Will not use Booking.com again for this reason. Will always book through the hotel directly in the future.

I would like more clarity ahead of time on whether and how much to tip the valets for car parking. I would have also liked more up front transparency on valet parking rates. $38 is not bad price, considering public parking is $2 an hour, and the necessity for parking for customers who drive there, but again transparency would have been nice ahead of time. Also, I tipped the housekeeping using your bar scan, I put $5, and it charged me $5.98 with the surcharge -- again, would like more transparency about this fee. If I'd have known, I would have left a cash tip. All this detracts from the experience. Hence, 8/10

Great location within easy walking distance of virtually all restaurants and shops. Our room was very spacious and well designed with the sink, microwave and fridge seeming to be separate from the bedroom and bathroom area. The bed was comfortable and the room was very clean. They also have a pretty good hot breakfast, better than many chain hotels.

The pool was quite small. The people above us were very noisy at times, but it seemed like children or perhaps someone with a disability so we didn’t complain. It was a bit pricey for a December weekend, made to feel more pricey when it’s rainy, cold and windy most of the weekend, but the hotel can’t be blamed for that.

Very professional and welcoming staff at the reception. The free coffee and hot water dispensers in the hall of the hotel (besides water) was really appreciated, particularly during the very cold weekend there was in Portsmouth during my stay. Clean room and bathroom and comfy bed.

All the breakfast dishes and utensils were in plastic, not very good for the environment. The quality of food service could be improved to enhance guest's experience (e.g., the normal yogurt selection was very poor). The heater in my room was quite noisy.

Nice location, spotless room, most probably recently renovated. Comfy beds, spacy shower. Practical and stilish light under the sink for nocturnal visits. :)

WORN OUT towels... The advertised parking is a valet parking only(!), 38 USD/night (!!). In a town of less than 22,000 people where the parking on streets after 8 p.m. is FREE of charge. Covered spots are not free but - for sure - cheaper. As an example, Hanover Garage (right beside the hotel) charges $2/h. Considering the check-in / check-out a car parked over 19 hours would beat the hotel’s 'deal'. The valet is too eager in making you pay. If the trick does not work, he will try to get tipped for telling you that you can park for free over night, with no security concerns, right in front of the hotel.

Hotel is in a great location to ‘main st’. The town is very walkable and it was nice to have a good hotel nearby. Breakfast was nice each morning. the usual eggs, muffins, yogurt, etc…. Coffee and tea available 24/7! Valet parking (while a bit expensive) was a lifesaver. The staff was friendly and helpful. Please be sure to tip your room service attendant each day. Had a very nice time with friends!

Perfectly fine hotel in a really fine downtown. Complaint: my wife lost/left her passport there. Instead of taking responsibility itself, the hotel turned it over to the police who contacted us at the last minute we could have picked it up before leaving the state. Had the hotel contacted us when we left we could have gone to Canada as planned. The only un-helpful example we experienced in the most helpful state of Maine.

The location of this hotel was perfect and smack in the middle of Portsmouth. The rooms were very spacious and extremely clean. The hot breakfast in the morning was exactly what we needed to get the day started and so much better than stale muffins and dry cereal that other hotels offer.

Our room faced the road (as do many others) so the road noise was a bit loud, but understandable. I really can't think of much more to be honest.

We had a spacious room with 2 double beds, spacious toilet. Hotel is clean, quiet, in a good location. We could walk to almost everywhere. Good food choices within a 10 min walk. Valet parking is efficient. Standard breakfast with a limited range of hot foods. Room has a mini fridge without the frozen section. There is microwave but no cutlery. Friendly staff, good service

My family & I took a pre-Christmas trip to Portsmouth to spend some time together. The hotel location is perfect since it’s within walking distance to great restaurants & shops. The staff is exceptional. They were all so pleasant & friendly right from the front desk to the housekeeping staff. Breakfast was delicious & a great way to kickstart the day. The dining service kept on top of the food selections so nothing was empty for too long. We did a little Christmas shopping so the wrapping station in the lobby was a perfect.

I really liked everything about the property but if you ask my 11-year old twins they would say they wish the pool was bigger. Not a deal breaker for me.
