Good Ol Days Resort

Loved the location - very close to downtown Nisswa and other restaurants, stores, etc. The view from my balcony was nice, and I heard many different birds. Very peaceful, relaxing, and lovely. I wanted a place to recharge, and it fit the bill!! The front desk staff was very knowledgeable of the area and extremely helpful. Especially helping schlep my stuff up the stairs to my room.

The bed was in need of replacement. It sagged in the middle, which made sleeping difficult and uncomfortable. The door to the patio was tricky to lock/unlock.

The location is lovely. Aside from a torn carpet the room was charmingly decorated, beds comfy, so little to complain about. The shower stall is a really unique feature! The resort is right beside the Paul Bunyan Trail which makes an easy walk into Nisswa for restaurants, etc.

Everything was lovely except the overflowing garbage can by the front door and a broom randomly lying in the lane way. These gave a shabby, unkempt impression that didn’t reflect the rest of the property. The torn carpet should be replaced.

It's a very good location right on the Paul Bunyan trail. It's also an easy walk to the Nisswa Square. You can use sports equipment and bikes, so that's a nice option while you are there. We didn't bring our boat because of the cold weather, but there is an excellent dock system. Just know the launch is a little ways away. There is a nice deck on the second floor rooms.

The rooms need some serious updating. We've stayed here twice in the past, so we knew the convenience of the resort. However, the room did not smell the previous times we stayed. I don't know if it was the carpeting, the air conditioner, or if the furniture was just old. It smelled very stale. Walls are also very thin. We didn't plan on eating breakfast at the resort, because we also knew it was a basic continental with packaged pastry and cereal.

The room was spacious, clean, well stocked with most items I needed. The fridge was the perfect size, full size microwave and they had plates. The view of the lake was beautiful as well. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The shower was beautiful, good water pressure and the towels were very soft.

The Continental breakfast doesn't start until 8 (maybe post these hours on the website). As one there for business, I had to be at work at 8. There was no silverware in the room either.

This property is Located approximately a half mile from Nisswa, right beside the Paul Bunyan walking trail where you can walk or bike all the way into Brainerd or all the way up to Walker, and If you are not into long distances, you certainly can easily walk into Nisswa. They offer free bikes, free gas grills with grilling equipment and they are directly on lower Cullen lake. We went there to take in the fall colors (which were beautiful in the area, and almost the most beautiful, right at the resort which does have wonderful grounds), and the pricing was great for the fall. We really liked the resort. It was a very pleasant surprise. We thought it would be good based on all the good reviews, but It exceeded our expectations, and we certainly will be back. One more comment, we got the impression that the staff whim we dealt with possibly were the owners of the resort, they were very accommodating and helpful, and if they were not the owners, the owners should give them a raise as they seemed very invested in the property.

What a gem on Lower Cullen Lake! We had a little cabin to ourselves. It had 2 bedrooms with 3 total beds, 2 full bathrooms and a great kitchenette. We looked right out on the water. The patio had a picnic table and 2 sitting chairs. The beds were very comfortable and the water pressure for the showers was terrific. The staff was super nice and location was great. We will be back!

We love the Nisswa and Gull Lake area of Minnesota but were having some difficulty finding properties in our preferred price range. Enter Good Ol Days! We had seen it on a jog heading north of town and thought we would give it a try. Very rustic with a family feel. The trees were gorgeous in the fall and the proximity to the water was good. Our room was decent-sized. The bathroom had a unique shower entrance that we thought was cool. There was a sink, fridge, and storage right when you enter which was also nice. There was access to rentals like bikes which was convenient. Honestly, the best part was the cost and the location to Nisswa. We were able to walk into town on the nicer days which was a great way to take in the fall colors.

The part of the resort we were in felt pretty dated. The carpet, bed, and door were all functional but felt past their optimal use. There was a distinct smell coming from a part of the bathroom that we were unable to find, but was very noticeable and unpleasant to me. We didn't have much interaction with the staff but also didn't need much interaction so I can't say that this is negative or a positive.

Breakfast was very nice. I appreciated the oatmeal as well as cold cereals, variety of breads/muffins, good coffee and fresh fruit.

The room had a very, very musty odor. Although we tried to air it out, since there were no screens on the terrace door, one could not let it open for long as there were squirrels and chipmunks around. The room was very dark. Brown paint on walls and dark brown shower area was, in my opinion, ugly and made the ambience depressing inside. A light color is needed. Price for each night with advance reservation was twice what was posted on internet for the week we stayed. Room had very little natural light and only one somewhat comfortable chair for reading. Lighting needs to be brighter for at least one or two lamps. Outside and lake view were lovely and location close to Nisswa on path was handy.

The breakfast was fine . The coffee was good. The location on the water front was really nice great beach front property. The biking trail was right in front of the resort but we didn't get a chance to use the free bikes.

Only stayed 1 night would have liked to have stayed longer, The sunroom was a little musty.

Everything was great!

The resort provides a cold continental breakfast when we were there on a Monday-Thursday. Unfortunately the local restaurants had lost their college students the week before, so no place for a warm breakfast.
