Staypineapple, Hotel Z, Gaslamp San Diego

Clean very friendly staff, the check in process was smooth. The room is set up very nice. They gave complimentary non alcoholic cold beverages in the lobby. The free refillable bottle that you can fill in the lobby was also pretty neat. They have the best bed linen and pillows i didnt want to get out of bed!

No parking was the only downfall

The staff was very friendly and the hotel allowed us to check in early. There was a reasonable check-out time (12pm) and free bikes for borrowing as well, which was great. The room was clean and nicely set up, and the bed was super comfortable. As a bonus, the front desk offered coupons for a free drink each and checked with us shortly after arrival to make sure everything was good. We didn't bring a pet but nice to know that is available here as well.

The only downside was that the room was a bit dark on its own and there wasn't really any view, as the only window faced other hotel rooms just a couple yards away across a narrow courtyard space. Would be a plus if there was parking validation of some kind but it did not affect the stay negatively as the nearby garage wasn't too badly priced ($22 overnight).

The location was the biggest perk. We went to a couple of Padres baseball games, and the hotel is right in the middle of the Gaslamp Quarter, which was a short walk to the stadium. There are plenty of great restaurant options within walking distance of the hotel as well. The staff was quite friendly and pleasant to work with. For example, we had a late departing flight, so they allowed us to have a later checkout time to fit into our plans for the day.

The primary downside is that the rooms are pretty tight. For a couple, it makes for close quarters, but it's manageable. Finally, there may be some staffing issues there, as probably is the case with hotels, in general. We called the front desk for an extra set of towels and, instead of bringing them to our room, we had to go to the desk to pick them up.

The location was ideal for access to the San Diego Convention Centre and all the amenities and nightlife of the Gas Lamp District. The room was stylish, clean, and comfortable with a stocked coffee station. Upon arrival, I received an excellent greeting (even though it was 2:00 am), a complimentary refillable water bottle and beverage of my choice, and the coffee bar in my room was stocked with actual coffee cream, which was great. The pillows and duo duvets were like sleeping on and under a cloud and the towels were thick and soft. I really liked the convenience of the additional USB hub at the workstation and the comfy office chair. The water bar in the lobby and the selection of games available were nice. Oh! I almost forgot the umbrellas - life savers.

The only thing was the mattress. If you've ever slept on a pillow-top mattress you know how each side of the bed ends up with "dips" and in the center, there's a "high-spot"? That's what the mattress felt like so it was a little bit uncomfortable, not terrible, just noticeable. I don't know what the other mattresses are like but that's what it was like for my room (king size bed).

The staff were friendly and extremely helpful from the time we checked in to check out. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Lots of freebies including a welcome drink, free cookies in the afternoon plus a re-usable water bottle with free water to fill up with. Rooms are really good with pretty much everything you need. The Hotel location is fantastic right in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter in easy walking distance to various bars and restaurants. Only 3.9 miles from San Diego Airport. We would highly recommend this Hotel and if we go back to San Diego we would not hesitate to re-book.

The first room we were allocated was too close to the elevators but staff handled this matter as soon as I made them aware and moved us to another room. Great Customer Service.

Great location, snack hour cookies and pineapple water were fun! Free coffee was a plus any time of day. Room was clean and linens were fresh, wifi and chromecast worked great. We borrowed the bikes - pro tip they are fixed gear and San Diego is hillier than it looks. The bikes are in good shape and a fun way to get around the flatter parts of town. We spilled a full cup of coffee in the room and housekeeping was quick to help replace the pillows and vacuum the floor. Secure entry - you need a room key to get into the lobby at night. Overall a pretty good value for a clean fresh room.

Room was a weird shoebox layout with the TV wall mounted on the side of the bed and the only window facing an interior small courtyard, so pretty much no sunlight in sunny San Diego. No microwave or minifridge in the room so we were out of luck with our leftovers and couldn't get grocery snacks for breakfast. No provided breakfast, snack bar, or on site restaurant. No pool. No parking offered but we were able to find free street parking or spot hero garage.

Hotel Pineapple was the best hotel in all the hotels we stayed in during our 3 week trip to California. We had some great hotels on our trip, but the Hotel Pineapple went the extra mile. We found all the hotel staff to be warm, friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. Totally excellent. Also the rooms were well thought out and were spotless. The bathroom was spacious and modern. Altogether faultless. Oh and last but not least, the cups in the room were crockery and not paper and we also had two real glass beakers, not the usual plastic ones.

Perfect location, new and modern hotel. It reminded us of a European hotel with its standards. We have never seen a hotel like this in the USA. No bottled beauty products (refillable dispensers in the bathroom), no plastic bottle of water but a refillable bottle offered in the room that can be refilled with water at any time in the hall. Coffee offered in the morning. Drink offered on arrival with a wide choice of soda, wine, beer. Non-smoking hotel for the whole hotel which is very good. Dog-friendly. everything is really well thought out by putting priority on customers, animals and ecology. THANKS

Quirky but fun and unique hotel concept with the ability to stay with your pet, and even leave them in the room. Large rooms hide exceptionally comfortable beds, own personal duvets, with 2 per bed and even snuggle pillows in case you're on your own! That said, you're in for a treat: the shower cabins are large, with great water pressure, if a little fiddly to set the temperature, and their microfibre bath robes are so soft that you're going to want one. The bathroom had a premium feel, and the first night, and every night, I slept like a baby in that giant soft bed! On check-in you get coaster to exchange for a drink from their fridge in Reception and the pineapple theme extends to biscuits that go with the coffee that's in the lobby in the mornings as well the pineapple-infused water available there throughout the day. Oh and the coffee machine in the room is not half bad either. Finally, they're staff are just awesome! They may not be able to help you with quite everything, like the TV in the room would have you believe, but they sure do try and go above and beyond the call of duty.

There is no safe in the room though there is a small one in Reception. The bathroom did not have a shaver socket. The writing desk was poorly lit by a lamp that was not bright enough and finally the elevator is slow enough to have a conversation across two floors. It's all minor stuff though really. Oh and they have slightly odd housekeeping rules (every other day) but just familiarise yourselves with them on check-in and you won't have any problems.

Location was perfect. Sleep quality was very good thanks to very comfortable matrasses. The best of all at this hotel for us was possibility to use city bikes. It was really worth it! we had two days with long bike trips.

Hotel has the younger clientele. When they come back after a night out and hang out around corridors, you can hear them through paper walls (or maybe it was only door that was not sound prof). Even though our room was not far from reception, unfortunately no one asked the guests to proceed to their rooms.
