Comfortable and Very cosy, breakfast included and there is a great choice, we are veggie and we were very happy with the choice. Staff are friendly and welcoming.

Can be a little noisy, the hand dryer in the loos were going off a lot, but its a busy pub and it was pouring down outside so people were probably using then to dry off haha, juat worth mentioning if you need silence to sleep, didn't bother us.

It is one of the most charming accommodations I have had the pleasure to stay in. Pictures don't make justice to the size of the room - spacious, spotless clean, really calm (mine was located facing a busy street but it was no problem at all), always bottled water on hand and, of course, a fantastic breakfast. They were really attentive at all times and they even kindly secured my luggage while I took my last walk around the city after checking out. Right beside the city center, it is a really well located accommodation, far from the busy tourist area but close enough to all the interesting spots to discover.

Nothing, everything was perfect.

the Waggon & Horses is well placed just a hundred yards outside the city walls at Walmgate, 10 -15 minutes walk to Coppergate and central areas. Easy to find and park, and not premium priced for its location. An atmospheric, old fashioned pub but the bed rooms ( certainly ours) clearly recently decorated and carpeted. Clean , comfortable and functional. Bathroom could be good but for a water issue explained below. Landlord and wife very pleasant and helpful. Breakfasts good.

Not much to dislike however we had a curious water malfunction. Nightly around 10.30 to 11.00 pm the cold water stopped running in our bathroom (Room 2)…..no water for toilet and wash basin….not good for bed time. In the morning no problem ! Needs investigating/ fixing. Reportedly not a problem in other rooms. We have stayed here before and would again….but not in room 2 !

Waggon and Horses has lovely rooms and extremely friendly members of staff, including the cleaning lady. It is also a very traditional pub with a good selection of beers (no restaurant, but the pub next door provides excellent food). I liked my room, it had a tv, a waterkettle, good wireless connection, a desk, a really comfy bed ... perfect, really. Breakfast was amazing.

Don't order full Yorkshire breakfast if you don't enjoy black pudding. I liked it, but the people at the next table didn't .... sad waste of food. I had a perfect stay. The rooms are one flight of stairs up, no lift. I didn't mind, but my friend found that quite difficult.

Lovely old pub within easy walking distance of York city centre. My room was well decorated and clean with a lovely comfortable bed. Breakfast was included but I chose not to have it, so can't comment on that. Tea, coffee, bottle of water and biscuits were provided on a hospitality tray, which is always a plus.

One thing I did find a bit irritating was the noise of a very tall extractor structure outside my bedroom window and the dull thudding noise below my room during the evening, I think this might have been music in the bar as it stopped at 11 pm. With it being a pub you expect this so I would probably take some ear plugs if I stayed again!!

We really enjoyed our overnight stay here, which measured up to our expectations of a traditional pub. We were very pleasantly surprised at just how spacious our room was, which included a table and chairs as well as a desk. It was extremely comfortable, the shower was great and everything was spotless. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful and all the staff we encountered were friendly and welcoming. Best of all was the location, just outside the old city walls and within easy walking distance to everything we wanted to see and do. Although evening meals were not available, there were plenty of options nearby including at another pub almost next door. We would definitely stay here again if we were to revisit York.

It is situated on a busy road and consequently there is traffic noise, which might be an issue if you are a light sleeper and have a room at the front. However, this was not a problem for us.

This is a wonderful base for sightseeing. It is just outside of one of the key ‘gates’ and you can access the city wall walk in both directions. It is however about 15 mins walk into the city which suited me as I’m a walker but if you are not so good those extra steps in and out may make this place unsuitable. In addition, some of the walk was quite isolated and it was dark by 6 pm so I was heading back quite early to be safe. The breakfast was superb and they catered for me being a vegetarian without any fuss or bother and there was so much it really set me up for the day it’s just a shame food isn’t available at other times. I was disappointed to have a front bedroom as the road noise was quite noticeable but otherwise it was immaculately clean, the bed was comfortable and the tea/ coffee supplies plentiful. Toiletries were provided in the bathroom and the shower and toilet were as clean as mine at home. The room had a TV with the mainstream channels and radio stations and a hairdryer was easily found. I would definitely go back to this accommodation!!!

Room away from the road No food available other than breakfast meaning eating in the city which can be pricey or using the pub next door Parking is temporarily difficult while building work is completed on an adjacent property but it’s nice to know the car is safe in one place

Our room was basic, bed very comfortable and bathroom adequate. Our room was very hot although there was no heating on. Kept window open overnight. Staff were very helpful. We arrived early and they kept our suitcases to let us explore York.

Not a complaint here, Hairdrier ( 2 females sharing), has a very short cord, doesnt reach the mirror either. Cobwebs in the corner of the room, apart from this, we had a great stay.

We stayed in a large room at the front of the property, which was great apart from the noise as it’s on a main road. The bed was huge and comfortable. The room had a nice tv and tea and coffee making facilities, there was also an en suite with a good shower. Breakfast was excellent with fruit juices, cereals, yoghurts etc and various choices of cooked breakfast items, tea or coffee and toast. They don’t do food here apart from breakfast, but there’s a lovely pub a few yards away serving great food. All in all a great stay.

The bar staff could have been friendlier. The girls serving breakfast were lovely.

A lovely welcome, was explained everything, and shown to our room. The room was lovely and cosy, and the beds were super comfy! Tea & coffee facilities are available, as well as bottles of water and biscuits. It's located in a perfect spot, adjacent to York wall and a short walk into the centre. Breakfast was amazing!! A nice selection to choose from and the "baps" were beautiful! Sausage and bacon were delicious! Was the best value hotel we found in the area, which included breakfast too! Would happily stay here again!
