we were greeted by a lovely lady who checked us in, gave us our room key and showed us to our room. The room was very lovely, four poster bed with little fairy lights, roll top bath and they had gone to the effort of putting rose petals and a bottle of Prosecco in the room as I had mentioned it was an anniversary (thoughtful touch) … the only thing we can fault about the room was that it was uncomfortably warm! we slept with the windows open and even still was so very warm. we was also woken up early by the sounds of the church bells (we are early risers anyway so they didn’t really bother us, it was actually quite nice to listen to) however if you want a lay in this probably isn’t the hotel fo you on a Sunday morning. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Overall a lovely stay and we really enjoyed our visit.

I stay in a lot of hotels; mainly in the SE for work purposes and this has to be the nicest "pub hotel" by far. Everything was simply superb - to the beautiful old cozy room with all the original character features, friendly staff that looked after you, easy parking for my LWB van and fantastic food. The included cooked breakfast was simply out of this world, with chunky home-made bread, thick cut smoked bacon, large sausages, 3 hash browns. I only just managed to eat it all! A massive step up in quality compared to the usual chain hotels I stay in. The large double bed was extremely comfortable - I had a very good night's sleep. Very nearly booked another night for the next evening, as I felt so relaxed in what was also a beautiful area to spend some time in. Will 100% be staying there again very soon!

Room was a little hot. Some of the radiators were on full blast, with no way to turn them down. As the room was at the front of the building, it can get a little nosy early morning, with traffic, deliveries, bin lorries etc. There is no double-glazing to help reduce the nose and I needed to sleep with the windows open due to the heat. Please take the above as minor criticisms and will in no way effect my recommendation for this place!

The room is really beautiful and has all necessities: very charming with a super comfortable bed! ALL the staff is always very friendly and helpful: Nicole was only on her 3rd day in at work and was managing it like a pro. The restaurant has a very varied menu and the food (including breakfast) is simply delicious. The perfect hotel for a short business trip!

Room 1 can be a bit noisy during restaurant opening hours as there is no door on the staircase to absorb the sound

What a gem The Wellington is. We stayed in room 2 and it exceeded expectations. In fact, it's probably one of the loveliest hotel rooms I've ever stayed in. Bed was very comfortable, shower lovely and a large, deep bath. Lots of attention to detail. I hope to return again soon. Unfortunately an early flight meant we left before breakfast, but for the price you cannot beat this gem. Very welcoming and attentive staff too. Just superb 👌

The bathroom in our room (2) was gorgeous and a clever use of the space, really attractive and an unusual design. Loved how two small glass-fronted cupboards were also squeezed in to the design. The bed was very comfortable. Service in the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast was really excellent.

The "seating area" was just a weird, narrow, and low wooden bench built around an unused brick fire place, with nothing to lean one's back on, really not a great seat. As windows face onto main road, would be nice to have some kind of net or clouded window to allow privacy without blocking all light.

Lovely room with views overlooking the Christmas tree. Four poster bed with twinkling lights. Comfortable bed and pillows. Bath salts, shampoo and conditioner, body wash and lotion included. Hot chocolate sachets, delicious biscuits, coffee pods and bottled water included. Delicious breakfast and very friendly staff. Welwyn was a quaint village with lovely shops. Perfect stay and we will definitely return next time we need accommodation in the area.

Location was perfect for us as going to Knebworth, really beautiful period hotel with individual rooms, exposed beams and masonry, with all the facilities you'd need. Not sure this hotel could meet the needs of a person with mobility issues, purely because it is a very old Inn, however we did not see all of the hotel just the area we stayed. Breakfast was superb

Only slight niggle was service in the restaurant for an evening meal which was a bit slow, but I believe they had a new member of staff learning the ropes. All staff were extremely polite.

The location was perfect, it was so peaceful and we felt as though we were on holiday. We definitely will stay again. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Luxurious, quality bedding, loved the period furniture, all kept to appropriate age of the hotel. The bar was well equipped and busy, it was nice to see a range of ages in the bar (a testament of popularity) not all residents, but had a relaxed atmosphere. The breakfast was amazing. Good quality products, variety of choices continental to fruit and a full English.

We only had one criticism, my Husband didn't like the open bathroom.

Great location, great staff, excellent breakfast included in the price. The evening meal was very good, with plenty of choice, would recommend it to others. Lovely historic building that has been respected when updated.

Some people may expect double glazing/sound proofing etc on the bedroom windows, but with the age of the building and the fact that it must be listed, causes a little more traffic noise than a modern characterless building, didn't worry us as it is a fairly quiet road.

The staff were so friendly and helpful and made you feel at home. There were several thoughtful touches such as bath salts and tissues provided. I didn't use them, but was amazed to have earplugs and cotton buds provided. The food was very good, especially the vegan burger and the breakfasts. All the food was very good but a few more vegetarian dishes would be good as numbers are increasing of people who are either vegetarian or are eating less meat. The location is wonderful and very convenient for my relatives.

I would have liked some decaf coffee in the room but luckily I brought my own. My only real problem was that there wasn't a desk so I had to work on my online course on the bed which wasn't comfortable. The coffee machine broke down twice and, as the staff were trying to wait for the urn to heat rather than just using a coffee machine for the couple of people at breakfast. One morning I had a lovely cup with a foam head but other days I had what tasted like instant decaf coffee. It would be great to provide a note with meal times and check out times in the room.
