Bedford Hotel

Nice size bedroom. Breakfast was very good. Evening meal were generally good, though unsure about the lamb chops (as were others we spoke to)

On arrival we were allocated a table and told this would be 'our' table for all meals. However on more than one occasion we found our table being used by other guests. one night we went to the theatre and when we got back about 10.45 we found the hotel in Darkness and the front door locked. Another guest also joined us and we were looking for a bell. after 5 minuets or so a member of staff came passed and she told us we could get in through the side door using our bedroom key. They should make this information available to all guest.

The room was very big and decoration was excellent bathroom well designed.Plenty of space for clothes etc.Housekeeping very good

Could not use hair dryer because no plug socket by mirror and no mirror by plug sockets.Had to move bedside table from single bed to other side of our double bed which was next to table with tea on etc.We moved it back before we left. When we came down for breakfast one morning it was busy so when we eventually got our cooked breakfast it was cold.Perhaps the times for breakfast could be extended to 10am .

Wonderful views from the bedroom with a balcony overlooking the sea with the sound of the waves...Room 29 had a lovely double aspect! The room and bathroom was very clean with good linen; during a 3 night stay housekeeping each day was exceptional! Good easy Wi-Fi. Location of the hotel is very central and close to all the shops, pubs, and other places to eat! Parking was limited but we managed to secure a space each day! The hotel is also very pet friendly and will, if asked, serve breakfast in another part of the hotel which will allow your pet; we decided not to do this and had breakfast in the main room with views overlooking the sea! Breakfast was very good with a choice of freshly cooked dishes. Throughout the stay all the staff were very helpful and friendly! Enjoyable 3 night stay - the room being the star!

Only very small negative are the steps to access the hotel with luggage!

Lovely staff and the room was large and clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good though didn't try the cooked items. Bar was nice and generally quite full of people.

Breakfast even at the weekend was early, 8-9.30 am which is unlike most hotels I have stayed in. No lie on on the weekends! Drinks at the bar were expensive, we drank wine and gin and it was more than my local bar in London!! We had a lovely room but it was right by reception and we could clearly hear everything outside our room and also the peoples conversations in the room next door which was a bit annoying.

Parking was easy. What a lovely warm welcome when we arrived. The room exceeded our expectations, so clean and comfy. Everything we needed was there. The bed was so comfy. The breakfast both days was stunning. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The hotel is so well appointed, with easy reach of the town and facilities. Would definitely stay again, thanks!

The only slight down side was it was very very quiet at breakfast. I don't want a nightclub level of noise but a bit would make you feel less self conscious.

Such lovely friendly helpful staff at this traditional hotel. Fantastic location. My little dog was made very welcome. Surprisingly quiet at night, I could hear the sea waves coming in from my room on the front. The food was very good and well priced. Good bus service and available at The Triangle just up the road so other towns and villages are accessible. The Byes (a walk along the river is beautiful) it can be accessed a few yards from Sidford spar stop on the bus if you wish to walk just one way into Sidmouth. Connaught gardens and The clock house cafe are 'a must'. Wonderful break.

The sun was out on my departure date and I didn't want to go home!

Breakfast was always fresh & good. We ate dinner in the hotel on 3 occasions, the food was cooked well & nice. The room was clean & small, just enough room for single occupancy. The best thing was the mattress was comfortable. The double room with balcony & sea view was lovely & bright. The bar area was lovely, lots of comfortable chairs, really decorated well, with good background music & a relaxing place to sit with a drink. All the staff was friendly & helpful.

There was not anything that I didn`t like. Personally I would have liked more varied options at breakfast & dinner.

The location on Sidmouth seafront was fantastic, with everything you need nearby. My room was also a very decent size, and nice and clean. Sidmouth itself is a lovely place to stay as a place on the South West Coast path, and is easily accessible by bus from several different locations including Honiton train station.

The hotel generally felt a little bit dated and aimed at the older customer, but dated by design rather than run down.

Room was spacious and so was the bed. We had a lovely view of the sea. The room was warm overnight because of the south facing window. A fan would have been helpful. The breakfast was very good lots of choices. I would have liked a window seat at breakfast but we were allocated the same table each day. This did make it easier for the staff which we understood. The location was perfect so easy to get to places during Folk Week. The owner was very friendly and very obliging, we will definitely be back again.

A bigger lift. A wish that people would remember to close the gate as very frustrating waiting for it from downstairs when carrying heavy bags and doesn't come when called. Husband ran upstairs and closed the gate. A window seat at breakfast. A fan in the room during hot weather.

The room was ideal for us, there was a lift which was handy. Breakfast and evening meals were very good. The hotel position was great, close to the sea and the town.

Car parking was very limited at the hotel, I should imagine this was the case with most of the hotels in the immediate area. It does mean extra cost to use public car parks, which all adds up especially when visiting other places in the day.
