The decor and standard of finish is quite good. You can tell it has recently been renovated. The bed was comfy, the size of the room was great and big enough for two people. The iron, ironing board were useful for us so handy to have in the room without having to ask for them. There is also a hairdryer in the room if you need. The staff are very polite and very efficient when checking us in, fastest check in ever which was great! Ample parking on site. Big green area surrounding the pub so can sit outside. Aldi is a 2 minute walk which stays open until 11pm, you can literally see it as you come out of the hotel. The location of the hotel was great for what we needed from our trip. I would recommend this place and would stay again as it ticked all the boxes for us. It was very good value for money.

Everywhere was very clean except the carpet, it felt a little grubby when barefoot. Could do with a carpet cleaner on that, so i generally kept my socks on when walking round the room. Not that it bothered us, as we were awake until midnight anyway but we could hear the voices of the people staying in the room next to us. They were laughing and having a good time so they weren't a nuisance to us as such but beware the walls are thin and if you get unlucky with nuisance neighbours it could be a problem if trying to sleep. We were on the end overlooking the kitchen courtyard so can hear the extractor fan next to window when open. Rooms are warm when whether is nice but fans available as no aircon. Water pressure in shower is weak but very clean bathroom and facilities very to use.

I've known The Highfield Hotel for many years since I've attended many functions there, including my 20th wedding anniversary (1992) and 50th birthday (2001). On this visit I was given a small single room right at the top of the building. It was a long climb but the room was adequate for my needs and contained everything to make my visit comfortable. I also had a wonderful skyline view of Middlesbrough. The breakfast was delicious.

The room was very hot even though the radiator was turned down as low as possible. I could sleep only by keeping the window open, which was sad considering the high cost of fuel these days. I did mention it and was told that the heating system is being updated very shortly.

The room was spacious, comfortable and nicely decorated, with everything you needed. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was smart and light. It was very clean. Our room was quiet and peaceful.

When you switched on the bathroom light, the fan came on, the box being on the bedroom side above the door. This was extremely noisy and went on for a long time. After that we kept the light off, but we could see because of the outside light giving just enough illumination. also the bathroom window catch didn't work.

Very clean and bed is really comfortable. Staff are all lovely and helpful. Cooked breakfast was great the poached eggs where perfect.

Cheap toilet paper and no toilet brush in bathroom let the quality of the room down. It's a little thing but it makes a big difference. Poor dull lighting in bedroom no mirror over table so a bit of a faff when drying hair / apply make up etc as you have to stand at the long mirror at the side or stand at bathroom mirror. A lit mirror over table would solve this problem especially for those with mobility issues. But overall the room was a great size and had plenty of space.

Clean & comfortable, the room was spacious and had everything we needed for a one night stay.

Although there is a vegan option for the hot breakfast, it would have been nice if plant/alternative milk was available or some options for the continental breakfast. The staff member did say that if they were told in advance they can provide it, but despite messaging via booking and receiving a reply, there wasn’t any, so perhaps a miscommunication.

what I enjoyed about Highfield hotel was that it was in walking distance to the st james cook hospital, dog friendly, nice food down stairs and the staff were lovely.

only little thing was the music out side was a little loud during the day when trying to nap, that’s only because we was up all night at the hospital. this isn’t something that would put us of this place tho as it was a personal thing.

Great value for money for our two night stay. The staff were excellent and really welcoming and the breakfast was good too. Rooms decent sized and surprisingly quiet too especially as our rooms where on the ground floor near the bar. Breakfast good too with lots of options and decent for the price paid

I know not in their control but if they opened the bar longer for people staying at the hotel would be great. as we came back from a meal out and the bar had shut at 11pm

Lovely spacious area to sit and eat/drink. Breakfast was very nice and had dinner there and that was also very good and reasonably priced. Staff were fantastic, room lovely and clean and great value for money x

Only thing I would say is the rooms get very warm so maybe better fans for the room would make it a little more comfortable

Everything was great as as I have scored previously. Front of house Alison went over and above her duties and was friendly polite. Will definitely return! :-)

The mirror in room (6) was not close enough to the socket to use the hairdryer standing or sitting on the chair to dry my hair. I had forgot to mention this to front of house when checking out.
