The stable block was separated from the pub and quiet with free ample parking. The pub was the highlight. Fantastic food and service. Fresh cooked to order. We didn’t sample the breakfast as we left early but heard it was just as good as the evening meals. The drinks and food were really reasonable too. Pub quiz on Thursday night was a laugh and they put curry and rice on too. We will be back as the bedding was lovely and we slept well.

The damp smell was overpowering in room 2 despite the window open on arrival and air fresheners. The walls needed a second coat of paint but despite this we will be back but will stay in a different room. The cheap price reflects the room and therefore we accepted the smell.

Good location to Matlock and countryside walks on the doorstep. Can get a bus or taxi up the hill to it from Matlock if you are unable to walk the steep hill down/up, with bus stop right outside. Friendly staff and nice food in the pub which was fairly busy but could get a table easily. Comfortable room for the time we spent in it.

Could do with a little updating in the room. The sink had a crack in it but worked still. Could do with a small blind over the small windows in the room we stayed in, which was in a barn conversion and had some tiny windows. Could also do with a mini fridge, but not essential.

Recently taken over by Mike and his wife and what a difference. Couldn’t fault how friendly and helpful all the staff were - Claire, Sandra, Laila, and all the cleaning staff. Meals cooked by Mike and all very nice. Good location for exploring. Dog friendly rooms and dogs welcome in the bar. Thursday night - quiz night which was good fun joining in with all the locals who were also very friendly.

Rooms could do with updating, but I’m sure this will come in time as new team only been in since March.

Nice not having to find somewhere to eat at night. Breakfast was extra but worth it.

It was a hot day and we had booked a table but after we had ordered and received our food the kitchen closed as it 'too hot'. Felt sorry for the people who came for food only to be turned away - some of them residents. There was a quiz at night with free hot food. It would have been better to serve paying customers and put a cold buffet for the quizzers.

We enjoy staying in traditional British pubs - and this was no exception. Dinner was good pub grub. We stayed in the converted stables - the rooms are fairly small i.e. no chairs but OK for overnight sleeping. Unusual breakfast arrangement but nonetheless delicious. Breakfast at 09:30 - no earlier, no later, at least during the weekdays. Luckily we were not really constrained by time. Large British Standard Breakfast delivered hot and quickly - eat what you want of it. Free parking in the pub grounds was very convenient. Walking down to the town is just fine; walking back up to the Duke of Wellington is pretty strenuous.

The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was very nice. The location is great, close enough to all the attractions. The room was warm and spacious

The room could have done with a bit more of a deep clean. It could also have done with a bit of re-modeling i.e a bit of paint, new bathroom floor.

The bar was lovely and traditional. Lots of little nooks to sit in. It has recently been taken over by new owners but nothing was too much trouble. Very friendly and helpful.

Some of the furnishings in the bathroom need an update. You could see wear and tear had affected them. Like I say though new owners had just taken over. It was clean though and the main bedroom was lovely.

Breakfast was delicious 😋

Mattress wasn’t overally comfy not very thick and noisy overhead neighbours think we had a family of baby elephants up there lol , place needs a lick of paint in the guest rooms but for the price of £60 for the room it was worth it , it was clean, the pub itself is really lovely inside very traditional style , we enjoyed our stay with you Thanku

Nice old world feel with good facilities. The cottage type accommodation with adjoining courtyard was perfect for us as we had taken our 2 dogs. Staff were very good and also tolerant to our requirements as we had the dogs with us all the time. Food was good and good value

It’s getting ready for a little bit if TLC in places particularly the beer garden
