Well what can I say apart from FANTASTIC my husband and I came to stay on Friday for 2 nights . From the moment we booked weeks ago we have nothing but praise for everything . Being greeted by a lovely young man who booked us in and explained about everything we needed to know. The waitress are amazing so friendly. The outdoor seating lovely and cosy . Room fantastic ,now the food that's another level whoever the chef is never let him go ,lol. All the small touches you give are class blankets for outside and heaters, milk and water for the rooms completely tea, coffee box . Thanks again Mr and Mrs Kay

There was nothing we didn't like

Love the bar, restaurant and courtyard.Room very stylish, bed extremely comfortable and the lift a great advantage. Staff are wonderful and so obliging.Great location right by the canal and close to the centre of the City.

Room and bathroom a little on the small side.Their website advertises rooms as being soundproof but ours (No. 4)certainly wasn't.We could hear the toilet flushing in the next door room and one night it went on at regular intervals all night long. Also the occupants of the room on the other side had to ask us to turn our TV down, even though it wasn't on very loud. The volume in their room seemed to be magnified by the plaster board wall on which it was hung.

The check in was simple for our Sunday night stay. The room was cosy, clean, quiet, comfortable bed and had everything we needed for our one night stay. The extra touches were much appreciated, such as the offer of a flask of cold milk on arrival to compliment the room hamper which provided handmade biscuits, quality and plentiful tea, coffee, chocolate sachets. There was also a coffee pod machine. The room we had was surprisingly quiet (at the back of the building). Plenty of plug sockets all around the room, mirrors in the right places, usb ports by the bed, bright or accent lighting - your choice. Breakfast - included in the room rate - was absolutely lovely and freshly prepared to your order. Lots of choice - I had eggs benedict while hubby opted for the full english - both very tasty. Plentiful pots of tea and coffee - and perfect porridge -made for an outstanding breakfast all round.

Nothing to dislike - they've thought of most things to make for a comfortable stay.

It was the most fantastic breakfast! All the staff were smiling and very helpful . The place felt upmarket with a lovely calm atmosphere. We bought rooms for our elderly parents, who also enjoyed their stay. The room was very quiet with a fantastic power shower and bath. We had a nicely decorated and clean bedroom with a view over looking the canal. We always pay about £120 per night for a room as this is our budget. We both agreed this was the best hotel we have ever stayed in for this price. We spent the last night at the Lancaster House hotel which was lovely with a nice pool- but we both agreed the Toll house was better by far for the same price.

Nothing it couldnt have been better

The staff was very relaxed and friendly when we arrived, and the upper floors (and rooms) were surprisingly clean and modern-looking. We had two breakfasts and one dinner in their restaurant and the food and service was also excellent. The room also had aircon (so hard to find in the UK) and the usual amenities.

I felt the location was a bit underwhelming--but that's not exactly their fault! The Inn is just situated in town centre and surrounded by fast food restaurants and the like. However, there is a Saintsbury's across the street which is very convenient if you want to run out for drinks or snacks to have in your room.

excellent location for city centre, breakast was very good indeed, aircon unit in bedroom was very welcome! - in-room tea/coffee facilities were exceptional with fresh milk supplied on request from the bar in a mini thermos, far better than uht mini pots!

Shower wrangling! - the shower included a rainfall shower head and a wall shower head- however the wall one didnt fit in the "holder" and shot off when shower was turned on. - had to be hand held!- There was a "coffee" stain on the actual duvet, visible through the duvet cover, however I was happy to sleep on the other side of the bed! -so didnt raise this with staff

Located perfectly on the edge of the town next to the canal with a less than 5 minute walk into the centre so not exposed to the noise from the pubs etc. Rooms had all you could want. Really comfy beds, plenty of hot water for morning showers and fresh milk provided in insulated flasks for a the tea/coffee making facilities, tv, wifi, hanging space for clothes and air con. There was also a lift. The staff were friendly, welcoming and their desire to help make my stay all that I wanted evident. I was staying for 4 nights and I found the location of the room I had been given a little noisy as it was close to the stairs so exposed to the noise from the ground floor bar/ restaurant. I mentioned it to the staff, Will, and without any fuss he arranged for me to change rooms for the remainder of my stay. Breakfasts were great, good choice and quality food.

Wasn’t a fan of the evening meal menu or the prices, old building and walls and floors a bit thin so movement and noisy activities in adjacent rooms could be heard.

Great service. We had a warm welcome and there were some nice little features such as being offered fresh milk and/or water for the room upon check in (at no extra charge), fresh shortbread biscuits in the room and a good coffee machine (hooray!), little sleep packs containing an eye mask and earplugs, air conditioning etc. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was first rate.

We were in an accessible room which we didn’t need but it was all that was available to book on booking.com with just one week’s notice. The extractor fan in the bathroom was very loud.

My name is Nancy Kathan and I am a high school teacher form Colorado and I loved everything about the Toll House Inn. I just returned from nearly a month in England and stayed at many hotels. The Toll House Inn EXCEEDED all of my expectations. What really made this place truly amazing was the staff. From the management team of Kameron, Jamie and Olivia to the wait staff of Mel, Will, Eve, Harika and Thea to the housekeeping crew of Abbie. Everyone took their time to have conversations with me, answer any of my ridiculous questions about Lancaster or England. All of them went to of their way to be so incredibly helpful and kind. It was because of this kindness, that I came back a week later to stay. In addition to the people, your food and beer selections were incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed having my tea and salmon for breakfast every morning-simply delicious! The Thai Salad with Crispy Beef was the best! And your desserts were to die for! I do love my beer and coming from Colorado where we have numerous breweries throughout the state, your selection was great! The Toll House Inn exceeded all expectations of any hotel I stayed at whilst in England. Aside from what I mentioned above, it was your truly caring staff that made both stays amazing.

That I selfishly couldn't get more of your homemade biscuits!

The property had bags of character with the quirky interior styling going down a treat. The food was good and location fairly central.

Our room was on the first floor near the lift and you could hear the lift mechanism whirring away every time it was used through the bedroom walls. (which did get used much less the later it got) No nice view to speak of from the window, only an inner courtyard of roofs and windows to see. The hotel doesn’t have much parking so we used a public car park nearby and the hotel is not easy to get to once parked up and on foot as it is located at the crossroads of really busy roads with no pedestrian crossing point.
