Kimpton - Charlotte Square, an IHG Hotel

I lived in the hotel for three weeks. So I could figure out, what works well and what doesn’t. 1) the team at the front desk is incredibly friendly. Thanks them 2) Both restaurants are really good: BABA and AIZLE. Highly recommended 3) the location is convenient, everything is close to the hotel 4) nice pool and sauna, a pretty big gym (however a ceiling is too low) 5) many small details in the room: yoga mat, coffee set and ect

1) Cleaning. Some days they didn’t clean, some days didn’t it well. 2) I had issues with collecting a laundry 3 times. Nobody picked it up. So if you want to get a clean clothes you should bring it to reception by yourself 3) Shower is dripping instead of “flowing”. I hate it, because removing shampoo and soap takes ages

This is an excellent hotel, very unique and in a lovely location central to everything.

The breakfast was unbelievably poor and the service was confused and sloppy. This was in contrast to the rest of the hotel service which was excellent. We decided to stay an extra day as we were enjoying Edinburgh so much, but declined to have breakfast as it was so poor. The Kimpton really needs to improve this aspect, as it was dreadful, impacting on such a lovely hotel.

Great location - within walking distance to the city centre and main bus routes. Hotel was quite modern and funky which was nice. Staff were so friendly and helpful.

Considering the price, there were a couple of little things that needed fixing in the room - we had to slam our door closed to close it every time, the tv played up a little every time we turned it on (tried to find radio station and couldn’t) plus a few touch up pain jobs needed. We didn’t spend long in the room because we were exploring the city but considering the hotel is so expensive you’d expect everything to be perfect - I am being very picky though!

Wonderfully friendly, professional and efficient welcome and check-in. Got a short tour of the facilities, including the information that AIZLE restaurant is a separate company and you need to book... whoever complained about that obviously wasn't paying attention as I heard this being said to every new arrival! Room was lovely, a decent sized single, on the second floor in the building above Baba Bar, facing Las Iguanas on George Street, very comfortable, absolutely spotless and surprisingly quiet considering it was on George Street! Great walk-in shower with beautiful brick-style tiling. Well equipped, coffee, tea, fridge, ironing board and iron, hairdryer, good sized bottles of cream, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. My only quibble here is that the water flow from the shower is not very strong but take into consideration this is a 200+ year old building and they are infamous for poor water.. Drinks in the bar in the evening with friends, excellent Sangiovese and big measures... Early morning, down to the pool. I did not expect the gym facilities to be quite so extensive and good, need to bring my gym kit next time! The pool is not very big, 12metres, I think but enough to loosen up and get the day started. Really appreciate the little dryer/spinner for swimwear, means you are not packing a dripping wet swimsuit. Breakfast... served in the Baba restaurant with the buffet set up in the bar area. The rooms are a bit of a time warp with beautiful plaster moulding, dining tables and chairs but also sofas, armchairs and banquette seating, dark colours and rather sumptious. The breakfast offering is comprehensive, fruits, cold cuts, cheeses, smoked salmon, doughnuts, croissants, other breads too many to mention and an excellent range of cooked foods... bacon, fabulous pork sausages, scrambled eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, baked beans and (it's Scotland after all) haggis... all fresh and hot.

I booked this as a present for my daughter and son in law and this is what they had to say about their trip. Absolutely everything was fabulous. The staff were amazing. They went out of their way to make everything really special for us. Nothing was too much trouble. We were celebrating my birthday and also our upcoming wedding anniversary and we were offered an upgrade to a suite. The bed was so comfortable and there was everything in the room that we could wish for. The breakfast and evening meal were superb. We were thoroughly spoilt and didn't want to leave. The hotel is in a fantastic location on the corner of George Street. Everything was within walking distance. Can't rate it highly enough.

The hotel is in perfect central location and has found the perfect balance of being luxurious while still very relaxed and not stuffy at all. Beautiful inside and spotlessly clean. We had booked a standard double room which was extremely spacious, had a beautiful view of the castle and I was so happy to open the wardrobe and find a yoga mat inside as I'd forgot my travel one. The spa was great and as we were staying for 3 days we made very good use of this. All the staff throughout the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful, we could not fault the service anywhere. The breakfast was very good quality and set us up well for the day ahead. Make sure if you stay to book the restaurant Baba well in advance.......the food was the best I had had in a very long time, amazing flavours and such good value. We stayed for my husbands 50th birthday but Will definitely try and make this a birthday treat for every year it was do good.

Having to leave and go home 😢

This was the most incredible experience at a hotel I have ever had. I booked a standard room at this hotel very last minute (the day of) as a surprise for my partner as it was our two year anniversary. I checked in without him before our dinner to order a bottle of champagne. When I informed the reception it was our anniversary they upgraded our room to a junior suite without an extra charge!!! Not only this, but when I arrived with my partner later on that evening, there were ‘Happy Anniversary’ balloons and a chocolate desert! The concierge were a delight and extremely helpful with luggage. I cannot recommend this hotel enough! I live in Edinburgh and have stayed in a few hotels and this hotel is worth every penny plus more! I felt like a royal the whole time I was there. The staff were exceptional.

Fantastic customer service. All of the staff at Kimpton Charlotte Square could not have been friendlier. From the moment we checked in to the moment we left we felt at ease and looked after. The room was fantastic - incredibly clean, lots of nice little touches (Caramel wafer bars and crisps as well as bottled water). A small sign in the bathroom highlighted that if we had forgotten something (e.g. deodorant, umbrella, lint roller etc) then staff would be happy to get this for us. The housekeeping was the best I have ever experienced; they were professional and left the room immaculate every day. Breakfast was a slick and professional service with warm smiles and good food. Plenty of tea and coffee which was lovely. Every evening between 5-6pm there was a complimentary residents happy hour - a lovely extra touch that added the sparkle to an exceptional hotel. The hotel itself was modern, warm and smelt fantastic (informed this was the special ‘Kimpton scent’). The location was great - very close to Edinburgh Castle and lots of nearby pubs/bars/restaurants.

Staff is very helpful and friendly. Overall feel of the property is very pleasant, let’s call it contemporary traditional.

No valet parking as such unless you book in advance, something not mentioned when you book.Roadworks taking place on Charlotte square make the experience challenging.NCP car park is a relatively long walk with luggage. Loading space is on George street , something you may want to know. Room was small and getting into the shower quite challenging even though I’m not tall and 68 kgs. What turned me down though was table surfaces at breakfast were not clean. That’s a deal breaker for me.

This is a welcoming and efficiently run establishment. Staff are polite, friendly and helpful. I'm sure they would try hard to meet all guest's needs. Room was comfortable and clean. Location great, art galleries and major sites easily walkable. The Georgian House is right on the doorstep in this quiet elegant square.

The restaurant options, fine dining or Lebanese (mainly meat) didn't work for me but I expect were good, given the high standards elsewhere, if to your taste. However, plenty of choice of eateries of all kinds nearby. Rather loud music in the bar and lounge areas.
