We were given room 2 which had a sitting room not realised this when booked so a pleasant surprise. Nice large bedroom and separate bathroom, which included bath robes. Looked to be about 10 rooms. We found out during the stay that they have holiday cottages at the rear of the hotel which looked nice. Busy bar area with several tables reserved for dinner. Good menu with several specials on boards around the room. Good selection of beers wines and spirits. Nice friendly service. Plenty of choice for breakfast from full Scottish to scrambled egg on toast with or without bacon and sausage.

Room was brilliant, as usual, together with the price. We had a bedroom and a lounge with a little kitchen area containing a fridge with fresh milk, bottles of coke, bottles of water. There were also sweets and biscuits in the room with a coffee, tea and hot choc. We had dinner which was lovely and always book our table in the special requests when booking the room. Bathroom contains a shower only, but it is a really good shower and that's all you need when you are travelling. The bathrooms are large and airy. Breakfast has a great selection and you always leave feeling full. Parking is great as you can park anywhere in the village and there are lots of parking places. We have stayed in several places before in Moffat, but nothing beats the Balmoral, which was always use now. You will not be disappointed.

There is nothing about this hotel that we do not like - best in the village!

The room we were given was more like a suite with lounge having very comfortable leather recliners, fire, big tv, kitchenette and a few nice chocolates. The bedroom was separate and the en suite was a good size. The price for staying here is excellent, and the full cooked breakfast is large - 2 sausages, 2 eggs, 2 bacon rashers, beans, mushrooms and tomatoes, apart from the cereals, toast etc. All exceptional value for money.

Our suite was at the front of the hotel so there was some road noise. This didn’t bother us but a room at the back would be quieter I would think. The sink in the bathroom didn’t hold water, and the light above the sink didn’t work. This was reported on check out. No private parking, but easy enough to park for free outside on the High Street.

The location was perfect, we had gone to attend the funeral of a friend. The church, the cemetery and then the refreshments at Moffat Golf Club after were all very convenient. The breakfast was excellent and set us up for the day. We were also given the choice of the time we wanted to be served.

We could not eat at the hotel on the evening of our arrival as there was a Wedding. In hindsight perhaps a message to that effect could have been sent to pre-warn us, as having driven from England that day we just wanted early meal and a rest. We did manage to get a meal elsewhere.

The room was really large and even had a side room with big sink and fridge. As well as Tea and coffee and fresh milk, there were biscuits and chocolates. Much better than most places these days. I went for the Full cooked breakfast and it was great, a nice sized pot of coffee, good quality bacon, sausage and eggs (2 of each) and beans, mushrooms and tomato. Also toast and cereal.

There were bath robes in the room but they seemed tired and faded, probably be better to just omit them. The couch was ok but a little low for me, would have been nice to have a small table and dining style chair as there was plenty of room for this.

Fifth occasion during which we've stayed there. We've always liked the size and comfort of the rooms, and the facilities provided, e.g. provision of biscuits, sweets, and drinks in the fridge. The location is good too - centrally in Moffat which is a nice town, and convenient for touring around the area. The food was very good and nicely priced.

The decorations in the bar and restaurant were beginning to look a little faded; and in particular the carpets in the stairs and landings looked in need of cleaning. but nonetheless the appearance of the decor continued to please.

Really good location, lovely, friendly staff, great atmosphere. The food was really good, the breakfast each morning was lovely; on the Friday my husband had the Fillet Steak and I had the Beef and Guiness pie, both really tasty. Live band on Saturday afternoon. All in all, a great place to stay.

Slept okay, but the mattress feels a little tired and in need of replacement. Spoke to the staff on checkout to inform them, and they were very receptive to the feedback.

Located centrally in town with all facilities within a short walking distance. Parking limited in front of hotel but there is plenty of extra parking opposite all free of charge. The hotelier was very friendly on arrival and throughout the visit even at 7am when serving a very good early breakfast. My room was pleasantly decorated, located at the rear of the hotel (I had requested a quite room) with tea/ coffee facilities and a small fridge with fresh milk. Ensuite clean with a decent shower. No evening meal was available as they were fully booked (the option to reserve a meal is available when booking). All things considered this was my last accommodation after completing the NC500. I can recommend both Moffat and the Balmoral Hotel.

I have stayed at the Balmoral since the mid 1990's but not for since I retired. The rooms have been improved since my last stay. Regrettably I cannot comment on the food (apart from breakfast) as we could not book an evening meal until 8.30pm which was too late for us. The local Italian could accommodate us earlier and we has the best pasta we have ever had. Breakfast was good with a wide selection.

Needs a bit of maintenance - paint on windows and in bar in some areas. Stair carpet a bit worn and needs a clean. Nothing to do with the Balmoral but the Stag pub has closed down which is a shame.

A nice small room at the back of the hotel, no noise from outside most of the time. Small fridge in room which unusual, nice to have fresh milk instead of long-life. Some hooks and hangers to put clothes on. Plenty of choice at breakfast.

I had difficulty in turning the shower on and off, initially I had to put my flannel over the control in order to turn it. One evening one of the other customers in the bar used a swear word every now and again which was not very nice.
