Ivy Bush Royal Hotel by Compass Hospitality

Centrally located with good size car park and very helpful booking receptionist. Our room was on ground floor and was well proportioned , also quiet considering we were over looking the car park. Breakfast was appetising, and catering staff very keen, plenty of bread, butter, jams, honey, fruit , cereal and yoghurt.

Unfortunately and sad to say the hotel is showing its age and need some TLC . In the bathroom some of the ceiling at some point has crumbled and the repair is very poor, also the toilet continues to flow after flushing which we reported so hopefully it will be repaired. The breakfast was good but had to eat in stages as we arrived at approximately 09.15 and were only able to scraps of black pudding, then the sausages were replenished and wait again for further 10 minutes for bacon, beans and eggs, my wife never ate any cooked because of the delays, and we appreciate that the flow of guests can not be controlled but experience should allow them to have better preparation and availability of the cooked breakfast.

I enjoyed an excellent 2-night stay at the Ivy Bush. I had a sparklingly clean, quiet, modern room with an ensuite shower (choice of shower head). I found all the staff courteous & helpful and special mention for Julie and Ceri who went out of their way to make me feel welcome. I dined in the restaurant on one night and was delighted to find live after-dinner entertainment in the lounge/bar area. Two talented singers with a range of popular songs that were well received. I would certainly choose to stay at the Ivy Bush again. Its location is easy to access by both train and road: quietly positioned, yet easily accessible to the heart of Carmarthen near the Castle.

I found it hard to close the bedroom door without slamming it (is there a technique?). And I needed Julie’s advice to use the key card effectively. (Thank you Julie!)

The accommodation was superb. Beautiful bathroom and the bed was very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. We dined at the hotel each night and found the menu varied and the food excellent. Also, the breakfast was fabulous with plenty of choice. An excellent location for exploring West Wales and Carmarthen is a lovely old town - and good for shopping. We have been before and will happily come again. Good lift access which was a blessing as my partner and I were both on sticks, following minor accidents.

What can you say about our Welsh weather? It didn't rain every day ....

Breakfast great, bed comfortable, bar meals excellent; bar staff and breakfast staff excellent. The bedroom and bathroom were cleaned well with coffee and tea provided.

The bedroom looked aged and needs a refurbishment; the carpet was really worn, curtain lining torn. wallpaper and curtains really old; hole in sheet and used a thick cosy throw over me from the wardrobe that had some stains on it. Have stayed here more than once before with relatives and have had much better rooms, it seems that as I had a single room,227 was given to me.

We arrived a little early but were able to check in straightaway. The receptionist was very pleasant, friendly and professional and we were made to feel welcome. The car park was free for guests and easy to navigate and register at the reception desk. Our room was on the first floor at the back of the hotel away from the road, and very quiet. The room was spotlessly clean, warm and inviting. The bed was really comfortable with 2 nice firm pillows, and we had an excellent night’s sleep. The bathroom shower was powerful with plentiful hot water and we particularly liked the toiletries, and huge fluffy towels. We enjoyed Breakfast next morning which was buffet style, and there was a vast choice of both hot and cold items. We treated ourselves to a full cooked breakfast and was impressed by the quality. Our server was polite and friendly but inobtrusive, which made the experience even better. If we had stayed another night I would have opted for a continental style breakfast for a change, as the boiled eggs, croissants, fruits and cereals on offer looked really fresh and appetising. Checking out was quick and easy and we could have stayed as late as 11am on the Sunday morning. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have already recommended this hotel to friends and are looking to book again soon.

room was lovely big double bed and single bed, ideal for us. Two comfy chairs as well as two upright chairs. tv good with lots of channels. Beds were really comfortable and lots of extra pillows. We had room service the evening we arrived fantastic rustic chips we had sirloin steak and chicken with mushroom sauce and victoria sponge with custard and cream. All food was delicious, well made and tasty. in the morning we had breakfast, which was great. plenty of cereal, well cooked breakfast bacon, sausage, black pudding, eggs, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, toast, croissants and danish, plenty of tea/coffee. Great produced. Defintely better than other hotels we have stayed in, Will definitely be back if in the area.

The suite was exquisite, beautifully decorated, the bedroom was so spacious and the bed was so comfortable that it felt like you were sleeping on a big fluffy cloud and the bathroom was bigger than the lounge in my bungalow at home and, the bath, I was so happy because ever since I was not able to have a bath in my old house or the bungalow I now reside in due to my disability, however, I was able to have a bath because this bath had a seat, so I got my legs over and sat on the seat and just slid gently off the seat and into the bath!!!!!!! The breakfast was incredible and you could go back as many times as you like, not forgetting the selection of food and beverages was most definitely the best in any of the hotels I've stayed in, considering the fact that I was a synchronised swimmer for 20yrs, I have been to competitions all over the UK and the world, this hotel is BY A COUNTRY MILE better than any other hotel I've ever stayed in!!!!!!!!

There's absolutely nothing to complain about, you're doing brilliantly!!!!!

Came to Carmarthen to see friends and the hotel was in the perfect location for the town centre, only a few minutes walk. Staff were very pleasant, rooms very clean an impressive when you walk in, much better than i expected. Opted for the queen size bed and it was comfortable. Breakfast was nice too. Good thing is the free parking which is great for hotel in a town center. No leaving your car off site in a paid carpark. Wish the bar was open late, fancied a nightcap just after 11pm but the bar was closed, although I'm guessing not economical with not many guests drinking late. I recommend and will be using again myself.

Room clean , tidy and comfortable

Breakfast as someone who required gluten free...went to breakfast told staff , and was abruptly told what I could eat from the buffet..which left me with bacon and eggs or scrambled eggs . Then as I was leaving we might have some bread would you like toast ..well 2 eggs and 3 slices of bacon later I got toast . Should have had separate toaster and bread there to do myself instead of getting cold toast . P,us getting told off for taking what I could have by next person in queue who's plate was piled high . The noisy pump for ages from gone 11 , had to ring down , so could not get to sleep

We stayed at the Ivy Bush Hotel Carmarthen overnight in the 16-17 December Booking in was very easy and the receptionist was very helpful Instead of a restaurant meal we decided to opt for a bar meal. The room was excellent and we both slept very well The breakfast menu was excellent. there was a wide choice, and I could not fault it On booking out on the 17th the conditions were very icy and the receptionist Rhian was very helpful in assisting us and with loading the car. We were very grateful to her.
