Mercure Monte Igueldo

Beautiful hotel at a very nice spot in San Sebastian. As it is at the top of the Monte Igueldo it offers a great view over the beach and city. The entrance of the hotel has a very nice lounge and bar with a nice view over the ocean. The breakfast restaurant is quite big, offers a large range of Spanish dishes of high quality (and view over both the ocean and city). The rooms are quite spacious, very clean, airconditioned and when you choose a room with both ocean and city view (corner rooms) it is very spectacular.

There is nothing really negative, just some noteworthy attention points. The beds are very hard, even for someone (me) who prefers hard beds it was too much. Also note that in case you arrive by car there are limited parking spots close to the hotel, the main parking area is a little upfront (just a few minutes walk), but is free. Also the hotel is a little further from the beach and city center. So either commute by taxi or walking takes approx half an hour.

- the VIEW over the bay is extraordinary, one of the best in the world - rooms are decent - it's definitely worth the money, the hotel is in such an exceptional place that it would be a big mistake to stay somewhere else when in San Sebastian - parking is free of charge which is really a nice complimentary service

- actually, the hotel bases its reputation on the location and the amenities are quite poor - for example the gym is of the size of a small room with 4 (four, literally) pieces of equipment available - the pool is open during a very short timeframe, it's my second time at the hotel and it's always closed, they open it during summer months only - the staff is generally nice but I encountered this super weird personal comment during check-in that normally should not occur in a 4*/5* hotel...

This hotel was way up on the mountain overlooking the town of San Sebastián and the ocean. It was a beautiful view. Parking was free. The room was spacious with a king bed and a large balcony with ocean and city view. We opted to leave the car and take taxis to town to avoid parking issues. The pool area has a beautiful view as well. The staff was nice and helpful.

I felt like the hotel should offer a restaurant option that is good, but maybe not quite so formal since the hotel is a distance from town and many restaurants.

The location on first impression is beautiful. Lovely lobby and bar area with an amazing view from the terrace. The rooms are fairly basic for the price of the accommodation. Didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment on that.

The pool area is lovely but not enough sun beds. There was a little table under a sun umbrella with sticky stuff on it that never got cleaned the 2 days we were there. The room lacked basics like a bin in the room, no bar of soap and no tissues.

The View was superb, the hotel has a vast classy 1920's entrance hall/ lounge /bar are that has been beautifully preserved and decorated. We enjoyed the roof top pool which is very well looked after and has the views.

You need to show your hotel pass to get a discounted trip on the venicular railway 10am -9pm which adds to your cost €10 day per return for a family of 4 and it's a long but stunning walk around the bay to the old town and other beaches. But the hotel restaurant is very good and the restaurant at the bottom of the public car park is exceptionally good but only takes bookings in person. There's a tired theme park for younger kids and families. Have fun - we did!

Great Location with unbelievable views. Has a swimming pool accessible from the top story with bar and 360 degree views. The views from the public rooms and terrace are equally amazing.

If you want to visit the town centre without taking your car (which is advisable as parking - and driving - can be difficult), it is not very practicable on foot, but doable by funicular and bus. But you can always go by taxi, which may be your only reasonable option if you come back late.

Location offers the best views on San Sebastian from every angle.Rooms are nice standard ,nothing special though.

There is clearly not enough staff available ( reception, bar ) with max 1 person serving bar or reception and they need to be called (even when a busload of guests arrive) . Outside the functioning of the cablecar, getting to the hotel involves walking along a very dark unsafe road ...there should be lighting or shuttles to the town centre after 10 pm.Distance to the towncentre is a minus but the views from the hill compensate that.In season there is a lot of noise from the adjacent amusementpark.

The room was a reasonable size and the view from the balcony was absolutely stunning. The large double bed was comfortable. Breakfast was very good with a decent selection of cooked food and cold meats, pastries, crepes etc. The staff were friendly and efficient. The Breakfast room and Dining room both benefited from beautiful views of the coast and town. The food in the dining room was excellent quality and the waiting staff were very pleasant. Access to the town/beach etc was very convenient with the funicular cable car right below the hotel to take you down the cliff and back up. The cost was reasonable and if you show your hotel key card you benefit from a discounted price.

The bathroom needs updating, the bath was small with the shower fitted over the bath. The walls and ceilings of the bedrooms appear to be paper thin with no sound insulation as you could hear your neighbouring guests moving around above and alongside almost like they were in the room with you. The restaurant food and wine were excellent, and the service was good, but the menu choice was limited.

The views were absolutely spectacular from our room, and from the lobby/restaurant/dining area and terrace! The main way to reach the hotel other than by taxi but via a wooden furnicular that ran every 15 minutes and took you directly to the beach front. We found this a lovely method of travel ☺️ The breakfast was a great selection of cooked and continental, and the pool was the perfect place to lounge and admire the 360 degree views!

It’s a slightly long walk to get to the old part of town, but the views more than make up for it and it’s lovely to stroll along the seafront.

The view from the Mecure Monte Igueldo is one of a kind. When we pulled up to the hotel in our taxi, we had to pinch ourselves looking out over San Sebastián on a beautiful August day. The hotel is located on Monte Igueldo and we liked that we were in a quieter place in the high season as San Sebastián’s centre and beaches were very busy! We really enjoyed the pool and we paid for breakfast one day (expensive but worth it to eat and look at that view - lovely choice of breakfast items - the chocolate donuts 👌). The staff were very friendly and helpful and they really helped us in organising taxis from San Sebastian to the hotel. We also ate an evening meal at the bar and my partner said the burger was one of the best he’s had in his life and he’s eaten a lot of burgers!
