Hotel Retiro del Maestre

This is a beautiful old mansion reconfigured as a hotel. It has easy, great parking. Our hire car, Peugeot 5008, fit easily in the car park. The staff were absolutely fabulous and helpful in every way. The person on reception came outside when we arrived to open the garage door for us and assured us our car would fit. Later she gave us a map of Almagro and made suggestions for a walk to the Plaza Major and later made further suggestions for a restaurant. Unfortunately, that restaurant had a private booking, so she helped us find another place that was fine. The room was spacious and comfortable, as was the bed. The linen had handmade lace, which was beautiful. In the refrigerator, there were two bottles of water. Our bathroom had a spa bath, a separate shower and toilet and bidet with two sinks and good lighting. Breakfast was plentiful with the usual cheese, ham, boiled eggs, yogurt, fruit, breads, all manner of pastries, cereals, fresh orange juice, coffee, teas, chocolate, hot and cold milk and the potato omelette was delicious. There were other bottled juices, tomato purée with olive oil was available for toast. Plenty of jams and spreads for toast. Cakes, brownies and delicious tiny shortbreads, made it difficult to choose. We had a balcony on the street and there was no noise. Almagro is a very special town of 8500+ populations with a dozen immaculate monuments. The plaza Mayor is a true Spanish jewel. Do decide to stay here. I asked for thinner pillows and there were two extras waiting on the bed. Great aircon, a good lift all the way from the totally secure parking garage and full of lovely, friendly staff. I give it a 10!

I don’t care for perfumed cleaning products but I just opened the window and aired out the room.

Very nice place, quiet (at least if rooms towards the patio), well restored with good taste.

Breakfast was very diverse, with a lot of local specialities, but to ask for extra payment for natural orange jus in such a hotel was a surprise, and the breakfast room is the less interesting area in the hotel, it has nothing to do with the style of the hotel. Next time I would have breakfast in a cafe.

It's a wonderfull authentic hotel on a great location. For me it was just a obe night stopover, but easily could have stayed several days. A nice bedroom with an equal bathroom. Got a good nightrest due to the quiet area. And the breakfast was the best of the week!

None, there is nothing to complain about. Again authentic, great people, good location, nice restaurants in the nearby neighborhood, incredible rooms and breakfast.

This is a beautiful little hotel, with quality fixtures and fittings. The breakfast was very varied, and we were invited to ask if we needed anything else. The hotel is walking distance from the Plaza Mayor, and close to all the tourist attractions. Almagro is an intriguing little town, surprising us by finding the Spanish National Theatre Museum there. It's also famous for its lace making.

We had read reviews about how helpful the staff were in telling us where to eat, and what to visit. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for us. When we asked for an idea where we could eat that night, we were simply told to try the main square, to see what might be open. Sadly, the lady on reception also said she didn't have a map of the town centre. Never mind, the hotel isn't a tourist office, but other people's reviews had led us to believe they would be more forthcoming. It wasn't that they were unfriendly - they were simply doing their job, nothing more or less.

Although the town is off the beaten track it is well worth a visit - very oldy worldy Spain, well maintained - the hotel is also oldy worldy Spanish - beautifully decorated and maintained, easy to find, with secure underground parking - staff were very friendly and helpful

Fantastic location just around the corner from the plaza mayor. Parking onsite included in the room price. Beautiful historic building with an internal patio area. The room was well equipped and a full size bathroom with added touches like a magnifying mirror, tissues and good quality toiletry products. Breakfast was excellent.

We had booked the Parador but saw the reviews for this hotel so changed . We love Paradors but often very similar. R de M feels similar internally. We had a superior room which was fantastic, on the road but quiet . Enjoyed our breakfasts and slept really well . Compared to many Spanish basement car parks this one was easy

Great location - a short walk to the Plaza Mayor. Secure - FREE - parking, under the Hotel. Quirky decor. Good and varied breakfast. Helpful staff.

Room overlooked the road. Although not a busy road, I would choose a room overlooking the internal courtyard next time.

This is a splendidly comfortable hotel, ideally situated for the Plaza Major and the historic quarter. Our room contained the most comfortable chairs we’d sat in since leaving home 7 weeks previously. We would happily return.

All very good.

Lovely breakfast with lots of interesting items to sample. A Jacuzzi bath in the bathroom which was very welcome after a hard days sightseeing.and very friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely stay again if we return to Almagro-
