Hostel Tommy

The ambiance and atmosphere are really nice, pleasant. Everything is neat. The staff is great and Tommy himself is just a marvelous host. You can do laundry (washer and dryer - 1000krw each), there's basic breakfast (coffe, cereal, toast) but you can also cook yourself anything you like as there's a 7eleven just next to the hostel, so you can always grab some groceries or a quick bite. Also, for the location, I can't stress enough how good it is. For example the entrance to the Changdeokgung palace is just down the street, the Insadong Street is really near, and you have a subway station where three lines cross (really important, makes traveling way easier) just 200-300m away. Overall, I would definitely stay again and highly recommend the place.

From the picture on the website I thought the room was going to be incredibly small. However the room exceeded my expectations by far. The location of this accommodation can’t be any better. It’s located right next to a 7/11 which means it’s excellent for those who don’t want to waste any time and get right into exploring Seoul! Not to mention it’s in the middle of a very nice district with a ton of nice coffee places and bars. The room has floor heating and a AC unit and the windows are sound proof so no sound coming from the street. The station is about a 5 minute walk, which makes hopping over to a different district a lot easier. No need to get a taxi. The host is incredibly nice and understanding, I accidentally overslept and slept through check out but it was absolutely no problem.

Location was great. Not far to the train station nor the bus stop. And the airport bus stop was also really close by. There was also lots of shops near by and good resturants. And if I had any queation I could always ask one of the staff members.

Everything! The bed is comfortable, the room is spacious enough for us to open up two big pieces of luggage and still have space to walk around. I asked for an extra blanket before arrival and it was there when I arrived! So happy! The bathroom is clean and impeccable. There's a shower curtain that separates the sink+showerhead area from the toilet. That way we can at least make sure our clothes and towels won't get hit by the shower when it's in use. There's a towel holder above the toilet and two hooks behind the door for extra towel holding space. They only provided two hangers but when I asked Tommy for two more, he generously passed them to me without questions. There's a dressing table with a mirror by the leg of the bed plus a mini refrigerator under it. You have to plug in the fridge to use it. By the entrance, there is a mirror, a small wall-table and a hair dryer. It can also serve as a dressing table obviously. There's another small bedside table for us to peruse too. There's definitely more than enough space and mirrors for two ladies in the room. Tommy is also a great host who provides good advice on places to go and whatnot. I wish I had more time to communicate with him so I could learn more and perhaps get more recommendations from him. I only went for the breakfast once throughout my stay and it's fine as it is. There's two different cereals with milk and orange juice. There are two coffee brewers, and they finish very fast so you might have to make a new pot if necessary . Three toasters and bread slices. Eggs aren't provided, if I'm not wrong, but you can buy your own and use their pans and kitchen tools to cook them. The fridge is also very big and you can leave your groceries in them with stickers provided for you to write down your room number. The roof top is a nice place for you to relax and have a smoke if you want. The hammock was my haven for those few nights I was there.

If you have huge luggage 🧳, the staircase will pose a problem especially if you're alone. I highly recommend using a travellers backpack 🎒. But it's not impossible to lug the luggage up. It's just a bit tiresome. If you're lucky, Tommy will be there in person to help you out! If you checked in late after 9pm like we did, we had quite a time with our luggage. The washer and dryer has a weird time frame of 4pm to 10pm. I understand that they may be noisy to use after 10pm but I'm unsure why we couldn't use it in the morning. But hey, we're on a short trip where we go out everyday so, obviously we couldn't find the time to do our laundry. But for travellers who stay for a longer time, they're very useful!

This is an awesome hostel for the price and especially for the location - it's walking distance to the palaces, bukchon village, the subway (this is crucial!!!) and there's a convenience store right next door. Opposite the hostel is also an incredible food scene within the neighborhoods alleyways. The staff were so welcoming too, and the checking in process is super duper easy! I arrived at 11pm and was able to do a quick self check-in which I was glad for after my long day on the plane. I stayed in the womens-only dorm when I was here. Next time, I plan on getting a private room!

I'd recommend a private room if you don't mind paying a little more, esp for the privacy. I think curtains instead of blinds work better for the dorm beds (less noise when you want to get up in the middle of the night for a dash to the bathroom!) so I'd recommend that be changed.

I didn’t notice until I arrived, Changdeokgung palace just less than 200/300metres away. The famous Ikseondong Hanok Village just across the street. It’s not that far from Jongno 3-ga metro. And if you walk a bit more maybe another 500 metres from hostel towards the metro you’ll find Cheonggyecheon stream. I like the idea of our own toilet in our shared dorm, self-paid laundry also available, washer and dryer. Breakfast is available. I like how everything has instructions - this is actually valid! Keeping others also comfortable during their stays! I kept asking iron- thank you Tommy and team! Also, I just wanna say thank you to Tommy- for allowing me to check-in early as early as 12/1pm than the check-in time. I was actually sick (migraine) and I didn’t remember much, I crashed immediately and woke up 3hrs later. So thank you Tommy, you didn’t know that, but I’ll always remember you for that. Sorry about the little incident. Btw, this is one of the best location I stayed for my 17days trips (I changed 4 hostels). I walked to Bukchon Hanok Village, Namsan Park, the Stream- all while I was staying at this Hostel. You won’t regret.

Hostel Tommy was really close to everything. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and had plenty of good recommendations for places to eat and go sightseeing.

Brilliant stay in Seoul! Tommy is an absolute gem who obviously loves hospitality and was always on hand to give advice. Female dorm room was of good size, more than enough space for your bag and the dresser with leftover toiletries was a nice touch. Beds are very comfy and nice that they all have blinds you can bring down to be more private. Each bunk has a light and there's communal plug sockets. Met lots of lovely ladies in my dorm, so was very social. Breakfast was basic but appreciated every morning with great coffee, toast, jam and cereal. Staff volunteers at the hostels are great and keep the place very clean. Laundry is well priced with great machine. Rooftop is very nice to enjoy a beer on! 7-11 right downstairs which was so convenient. Location is super closer to Insadong and has lots of Krorean BBQ places, and super close to the Metro and Bus Stops - so easy to get around. Also liked that you could use slippers and buy small toiletries from reception.

Just be aware when booking that there's only 1 x Female Dorm of 6 in the hostel, rest are private rooms which mostly Korean friends and family stay in with also some international families and kids. So just be aware of that as obviously the people you meet are limited. Would be great to have another dorm in this place!

The room was just right in size, clean, comfortable bed, smart tv, floor heating, instructions in English for everything (heating, cleaning, washing, facilities). The check in and out process is so easy and the common space is nice and fun. There is a big fridge and tags if you want to store some food. The host is such a nice person, always making sure everything is ok and we enjoy the stay. The location and value for money is great.

The room was a great set up for a family. Decent amount of space for placing bags and storage. The overall facility was quiet and the hostel host was so friendly. He helped us with booking transport to the airport and also helped us call the taxi driver who dropped us off when I accidentally left my phone in there. Free breakfast and coffee in the morning helped fuel us for the day with some toast, cereal and milk. Access to the Jongno-3 subway station or the bus was so easy. The area nearby is also poppin so made it easy to just hang out near the hostel too and get great food.

Everything went well, the only item to note is that access for the elderly or handicap is limited since it is only staircase access. My mom is a little older (70+) so she had to take it very very slow up the steeper staircase, but other than that it was a great stay.
