Distinction Luxmore Hotel

Conveniently located in the centre of town. Our room was spacious although the view of the carpark let it down in an otherwise stunningly picturesque location. Breakfast was buffet style with a good choice of either hot or cold food. The adjacent restaurant, owned by the hotel also has a good menu at reasonable prices. Good WiFi and plenty of free parking.

This hotel, along with many others in New Zealand will charge a 2% surcharge for using any non NZ debit or credit cards. This surcharge extends to the adjacent restaurant. It doesn’t make a huge difference but it should be pointed out at point of booking.

Room was nice, there’s a lovely little courtyard beside the rooms allowed for sitting out in the evening. Really good location for Te Anau - close to the lakefront and visitor’s centre. Special thanks to Joyce and Lionel at the front desk who found an item we’d left behind and posted it to us!

The hotel is on the street so there was some street level noise early in the morning/late at night, as well as from other nearby guests, but nothing too disruptive. The room was relatively expensive for the standard of accommodation, but we did book fairly last minute. We were told the hotel car park was full when we arrived, though luckily we found parking nearby without much trouble. Do maybe try and arrive early to get a spot.

The room was good, perhaps a little too warm at times, but otherwise good. Great shower ! The staff were very courteous and helpful. The whole hotel was clean and comfortable. Great location and the breakfasts were fantastic with friendly staff. We also dined at the restaurant downstairs two nights and the service and food was great.

The room was a little too hot at times which made sleeping a bit hard, but the weather was great so that may have contributed to the room being a bit warmer than normal. We didnt mind though, really nice room.

I booked two nights at short notice ,looking for a base for a trip to Doubtful Sound. It was perfect .Middle of town,not noisey and handy for restaurants etc. Ample parking and BRILLIANT early breakfast with ample choice .

This may sound odd, but on arrival I was given an upgraded room! As a lone traveler I did not need two double beds and a view of the mountains ! Nice though it was . Also the hotel is a complicated building so easy to get lost and not find things such as the restaurant !

Location was great, Restaurant was good and Baileys Cafe was fantastic with great service overall and top notch food!

Noisy early buses at our side of building, Hotel service with all guests in the queue on arrival could be well improved. The bed duvet fit only went just over halfway up the bed- weird as! The bathroom shower hasn’t seen a decent clean in a while with pink mould in the tile joins. Some small improvements will make a big difference.

My family and I really loved the hotel and the Family Suite. They did not wish to leave as we feeling so much at home. The location of your hotel is also one of your greatest assets as it is so picturesque and set in a breathtaking location. Te Anau being the gateaway for Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, and Otago is also the icing on the cake. We have a tremendous and fun filled time. Thank you so much. We are looking to return in 2 years time.

Accomodation was traditional old fashioned but well maintained, clean and tidy. Very large Hotel and obviously in it's day was well built. Would be a large scale operation to modernise. Most people are only staying a night or 2 so it's adequate. Staff super friendly. Breakfast was yum, traditional buffet. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. Gateway to Milford Sound region. We are grateful we stayed the night. Long day to drive back to Queenstown after Milford Sound. Found great restaurant - The Fat Duck. Very popular. Suggest booking

Just update overtime. After covid probably just thankful to have customers and staff to operate it.

The room was fantastic, shower amazing, only critism is the amount of noise you can hear from the rooms above you ie toilet flushing etc We checked out and 30mins later had to return to see if we could stay on as our next planned accommodation had to cancel due to Covid, they were very accommodating - thankyou so much.

We went to Bailey's restaurant/cafe for breakfast, (not 100% sure if run my the hotel or just attached) the buffet had just ended which we weren't going to use anyway but my husband ordered scrambled eggs and bacon. When it came out it looked like it had been taken from the left over buffet, the bacon was so dried out it was inedible, the table next to us also ordered scrambled eggs and bacon about 10mins after us and theirs came out smelling beautiful and looked softly cooked --- please don't fob your leftovers off onto paying customers, my omelet on the other hand was truly delightful, however this experience put us off eating there again which was a shame as it is so handy. To be fair we did get a refund but professional kitchens should know better sorry.

We had a breakfast included in the price of the room. Exceptionally generous portions with a varied menu. Room was very spacious and quiet and had extras like an iron and ironing board in the room. Staff in the restaurant were especially pleasant and accommodating.

Lighting, except in bathroom, was a bit on the dull side with cold white light in bedroom. Furnishings a little dated. The Luxmore is one of two Distinction hotels in Te Anau. The main hotel which has now closed is on the lakefront in a prime position. . It is a pity that the current hotel was not on that site.

If the year were 1997 then I am sure this would be the best in hotel luxury. With that in mind, the hotel provides you with all the basics you will need - laundry facility, small gym, in-house cafe etc.

understandably, it would cost a lot of money to update this hotel and judging by our stay (the hotel being almost empty) - the funds are probably not there. The bathroom light buzzes before it comes on, the TV is very basic (no smart functions), the heater struggles to keep the room warm and the furniture and fixtures look like they are straight out of ‘The Shining’. The hotel feels a bit cold, dated and sterile and in major need of some updating.
