Hotel Certosa Di Maggiano

location: nicely situated a 30min walk from city centre so all the historical attar ruins were accessible. we were nicely away from the noise of the city and it allowed for some beautiful scenery. if you don’t like walking then there are car parks in Siena or you can rent e-bikes from the hotel at €35 for 6 hours. the hotel: the room was spacious and comfortable, the bathroom was big, clean, had a great shower and a large bath. the food in the restaurant was delicious. the decor of the hotel is traditional and beautifully done; it suits the hotel very well. the communal areas such as the living room and bar and outdoor seating areas were great for relaxing in. there is plenty of parking in the hotel car park. the staff: very attentive, happy to do anything for you, and to answer any questions. they spoke excellent English which helped, though we would try what little Italian we knew! breakfast was great - really healthy options (and less healthy if you want!)

it could do with an exercise space: they don’t have a gym, or an outdoor exercise area that’s accessible. when I asked about this I was advised to do my video workout in my room which was not ideal. they also didn’t provide milk for the tea/coffee in the room, and didn’t replace the tea we had used so we each only got one tea for the days we were there. it would be nice to have fresh orange juice at breakfast rather than pineapple.

This is a hotel for total relaxing. The swimming pool area is great. The hotel keeps the charm of an ancient monastery. Our room is spacious with high-ceiling. Every room has large windows. Good espresso machine available in the room. Good breakfast and the service starts at 7:30 am. Restaurant for lunch and dinner is of great quality. I recommend at least to have one meal there. Very helpful staffs. Housekeeping always on time. We can have a late check out at 13:00 which is a very nice gesture from the management.

Nothing really comes to mind ... Well, I don't really like the BGM (one can eat breakfast/lunch or dinner quietly without background music). As to transport, hotel may consider offering "shuttle service" between Siena city and hotel. Hotel may need some renovation work to revamp its image. The shower in a bath tube is not very safe. There is no elevator ...

Amazing staff amazing hotel, for us it was more than 5 stars. the way that the staff are doing is very unique, worm and ready to do everything for you. I have to say that Michelle she is amazing manager at the hotel, she support us a lot before we arrived the hotel and during our stay at the hotel. So the Staff are the key factor

A beautiful hotel with friendly staff. The restaurant is an excellent addition, great food served with care. Grounds and pool lovely and perfect to relax in.

Breakfast a bit lacking for a hotel of this calibre and you repeat your choice each day. The cake served, however, did vary and was nice. Shame the breakfast wasn't as good as the standard of the restaurant food. The hotel is not as close to Siena center as we thought from the online description. It is a steep climb on a fairly narrow road and would take a good half hour depending on the heat! Hence we got taxis in and out which cost 15 euros one way.

Certosa di Maggiano is truly heaven on earth with all the amenities they have on the property, the kind staff and overall good vibe. Michelle will forever be my favourite of all staff because she helped put together a picnic at the chapel to see the sunset with my now fiancé, as I proposed to her right there at sunset. It was perfect. As for the room, it was spacious and clean and had lots of privacy as the garden it faces is closed off. The breakfast was diverse with lots of vegetables, cheeses, cold cuts, delicious desserts and fruit.

We had dinner there and the food wasn't great. The spaghetti was not cooked enough and the bread they served which was done in their own kitchen seemed a bit old. Since this wasn't part of the booking and it was an extra service we requested, I don't think it should influence the review, but I thought it should be noted.

The entire property is magical with special thought if design appeal around every corner. The artwork, draperies and furnishings perfectly placed for iconic photographs. Special seating spots with beautiful views of olive trees, blooming freesia and roses with the floral aroma in the air. Romantic lights hanging from the trees for moonlight strolls. The pool and veranda with outdoor beds are to die for. The staff is very attentive, kind and courteous. I looked forward to breakfast in the back veranda each morning with fresh farm to table selections and perfect cappuccinos. We dined in the restaurant and had the tasting menu which was an art on our plate and mouth. The chef added a few extra treats making it a seven course experience. Grazie Melle to all at Certosa di Maggiano and for making us feel so special during our 25th anniversary trip.

This not problem per se but know it is a 20-30 minute walk to Siena on a winding road. My husband and I enjoyed the hike to town but some may find it too long for them. Simply ask the front host to line up a taxi for you ahead of time.

Stunning location, beautiful hotel in an idyllic location. Lovely swimming pool. Great food.

The service from the staff was mixed. This is a small hotel. Most of the staff were great but there were a few times when we felt that the staff were not very customer focused. We’ve stayed in this hotel before and the staff were brilliant last time. Not quite so good this time.

Service was exceptional, all the staff went above and beyond to help you. Especially Alessia at the front desk who helped us with a number of requests including late night transfers to a wedding and a road bike rental. You can tell every single member of the staff loves working there as they are so happy and charismatic all the time. The food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) was fantastic, especially the tasting menu with wine pairing which was super authentic and Tuscan with locally sourced ingredients, it was exceptional! The complimentary water in the room is great. We enjoyed the walk into Siena which was about 30 minutes, perfect location for peace and tranquility but close enough to visit the attractions. The live music most evenings and the bbq evening was fantastic and so great to sit and watch the sunset with an aperol spritz and enjoy the beautiful setting whilst listening to live music. We hope to come back soon and it would definitely be our first choice when ever we are back in Tuscany.

Michele and Cristiano were just the best hosts. I have been travelling for 25 years and I’ve never met anyone like them; kind, considerate and knowledgable, but the best part was that they made you feel like you were at home. they treated my mum like a star, they went out of their way to help us. the property is just what you want in Italy. it’s got a story to tell. as much as I like modern hotels, this stole my heart. one of the most comfiest beds. non scratchy linen and clean like your home ( if you are like Monica from friends - and I am) the breakfast is outstanding as well as the courtyard. Daniel was a bundle of knowledge and made us feel at home. we are already planning to come back :)

We appreciated that this beautiful former Tuscan monastery was convenient to Sienna, but was peaceful and quiet and surrounded by beautiful open space. We enjoyed roaming the grounds with its numerous outdoor seating, walking and lounging areas, as well as the outdoor saltwater pool and attached lounge area. The interior spaces are elegant but comfortable and inviting. We were upgraded to a junior suite which we jokingly referred to as the "Cinderella suite" as we had to climb approx. 65 steps to get to our rooms, but we couldn't complain as it was comfortable and had everything we needed (excluding large windows as it seemed as if the suite was originally attic space), with a sitting room, walk in closet, and large sleeping room and bathroom. The breakfast buffet had a large selection of both hot and cold, savory and sweet items, with fresh coffee and tea made to order, and seating options provided both indoors and outdoors. The numerous staff were helpful, friendly and polite, and were quick to check to see if we needed anything. We were even provided a tour of the attached church by the caretaker :) with translation provided by one of the wonderful ladies that work at the front desk. What an amazing adventure!

The pool was was a bit dirty and was also not heated. Also, the quality and consistency of the food was not as good mid-week compared to the weekend.
