Hotel Diana

-Convenient location close to the train station & cathedral -Stylish & well-designed rooms and hallways -Staff were friendly and helpful -Excellent breakfast with good variety -You can leave luggage at the reception of its sister hotel

-The front desk is not staffed in this property so you have to proceed to the sister hotel at the corner of the street for check in/out, breakfast, etc; we initially didn't know this so we kept ringing the front desk buzzer at the main door (which was supposed to connect to the reception of the sister hotel but didn't) until we were successfully able to connect with the reception via WhatsApp. But all of this isn't so bad considering that you're paying less to stay in Hotel Diana relative to its sister hotel.

First of all I was offered a room in the main hotel, Albergo San Martino, so these grades are not based on Hotel Diana which is a kind of annex. The staff were welcoming and very helpful. The location is excellent, being a two-minute stroll from the Cathedral and five minutes from the central piazzas. I had walked out of a very disappointing hotel, halfway through my intended stay. With better research I wish I had chosen the Albergo for both nights of my stay in Lucca.

I was slightly disappointed with the bread selection at breakfast but everything else was fine. Otherwise it is very hard to find fault with this excellent small hotel.

The host gave very easy to follow map directions. Our room was quiet with a good shower and plenty of room to spread out. We had a key to the building as well as our room so could stay out as long as we wished. We were too late to have breakfast the next day but the host said it was not a problem and we enjoyed a delicious spread with plenty of gluten free options too. The staff were extremely helpful and amazing hosts. They looked after our bags while we walked around the next day. Would definitely return.

Exceptionally handy location close to cathedral, ramparts and station for a brief stay on the way back to Pisa airport, quirky but functional room, although reception is in a separate entrance this was no problem. They kindly loaned me a iphone cable as I had mislaid mine. Room was plenty big enough and everything worked. A base right in the middle of things.

My room was on the ground floor corner, with windows onto the street on two sides. It was not a problem for me, but might be for others - if the shutters are open you are on display. There was noise from doors slamming, people talking in the hotel, and snoring from the next room. There is a notice about the door, but people don't necessarily obey. Again it didn't really worry me, but might others.

We booked this very last minute and were not disappointed. The incredibly helpful guy on reception, who helped us park, carried our bags, showed us where to go in the city and who generally went out of his way to make us feel welcome, showed the very best of Italian hospitality. The room was clean and although painted a rather surprising bright green was extremely comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was most definitely worth the few extra euros - plenty of choice and everything topped up regularly. We will definitely try and stay here again.

The toilet flush was a little erratic, but worked fine once you'd got the knack of it!

I loved the location and everything, like facilities, very good air conditioning, windows were closing for total darkness, quite area, very close to everything important and nice in the city, really friendly and respectful stuff, info on the area and so on

I really didn't like the color of the paint of the room's walls, it was a strange green/ blue

Let us come in early as my husband was very tired. Upgraded us to a room near the breakfast for a small sum. Gave us good information. Loved the historic nature of the room.

Shower felt unclean on the base but the manager explained they had used very strong cleaner on it without success. They are going to upgrade it. The rest was very clean.

Great location, quiet place, small and cozy hotel, the room is clean and tidy. The staff is friendly and helpful. We stayed only for one night with a proper breakfast, but since we had to leave early, the staff organized breakfast for us in the evening with fruits, juices and sweet pastries, for which special thanks to them)

Rooms in Diana where perfectly clean and comfortable but decor could have been more appealing although we liked it - it would put many off

We chose the hotel primarily because of the proximity to the train station, but we got so much more. Exceptional places to eat within minutes, easy to get around. Claudia was super accommodating and friendly. Would definitely stay again. Lucca was one of our favorite stays in Italy. If you plan to rent bikes, check out the Tourist Center across street from train station. Amazing help.
