Hotel Du Golf

Really convenient hotel on the outskirts of St Etienne. Very warm welcome from the receptionist. The countryside around the Town looks well worth exploring and the motorway from / up to Clermont-Ferrand is simply stunning. The inviting golf course has suffered this year (2022) from the very hot, dry Summer and though well supported, judging by the cars in the carpark, will take a wet, mild Winter to return to its best. The breakfast was outstanding; quite possibly designed by a golfer, for golfers.

The first bottle of wine we chose at dinner was well past its best but this was exchanged without fuss. Sadly our waiter, though attentive, had bad breath and looked as though he had turned up for work without his hotel attire. None of the restaurant staff gave the impression of enjoying their work or each other's company. All in all, a rather subdued vibe.

We received a free upgrade due to a wedding taking place, we were moved to a part of the hotel where we did not get disturbed by the noise. The restaurant had a good ambiance and a good, wide selection on the menu.

Although we did receive a free upgrade to a Spa Room, unfortunately the air conditioning was not great and the room was very warm due to the heat that day. I think the unit was just too small to be effective in the space.

The quality of the service and the location are well worth the price. For its price, it is a great find and the golf course looks wonderful. there is plenty of parking and the quiet of the hotel was much welcomed.

I would have expected more toiletries (such as a shower cap) being a 4 star, and the breakfast was minimal though good. The room was dimly lit and quite warm but the big window let a lot of light and air in.

Everywhere was immaculately clean. Rooms a good size and very comfortable. Public areas and dining area extremely well kept and tastefully decorated. We stayed over Christmas and the restaurant in particular was very busy, fully booked, but staff remained happy, attentive and efficient and high standards maintained. We also took our dog, who was well received, and there is a good sized park with a panoramic pathway affording views of the town attached to the hotel. Plenty of parking despite being busy and easy access. A faultless stay and very good value for money.

Could have had a few more staff on as it was very busy checking in, putting the guy on the desk under a lot of pressure. Despite this he was incredibly helpful and friendly.

The pool, bar and restaurant were excellent.

The music around the pool are was too loud and became annoying after a while. The bathroom was poorly designed eg mirror too high and complicated taps! The hotel was covered in scaffolding and there was a strong smell of paint. I would have appreciated being pre-warned about the renovations.

The hotel was just off our route south after a long drive. The pool area was so relaxing. The bedroom and bed were spacious, comfortable and very clean, with tea/coffee making facility. The staff are efficient and courteous. Dinner very good at a very reasonable price. It is difficult to say anything negative. Such an oasis of calm in a very busy St Etienne. It deserves a stop of more than one night.

The property was secluded in a very busy city. The staff were simply outstanding. They couldn’t have been more welcoming or helpful. This hotel is great value for money!
