Aiden by Best Western @ Clermont-Ferrand

Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who offered to make reservations for us at the hotel restaurant, which we gladly accepted (as we'd been driving 2 days straight already, we did not feel up to going into the city center that night). Also, at breakfast one of the waiters really went out of his way to help us, and we had a lovely chat with him (too bad I never asked his name for he definitely deserves some extra credit!) Food was good (both at breakfast and at dinner), though mostly at dinner there were some pretty long waiting times (see below)

At the restaurant, during dinner, we had to wait almost half an hour before someone came to our table to tell us they no longer had the bottle of wine we ordered. Luckily, the waitress could recommend us another bottle (which coincidentally was at the same price as the previously ordered bottle....???) In general, service was slow all night. We had to wait several times for our table to be served while we saw other tables, that had arrived later than us, being helped much faster.

The location is ideal when you’re driving to the south of France and Spain. It has a parking on site (reservation is needed). The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. we had adjacent rooms separated by a private hallway, perfect with 2 young kids. Breakfast is well taken care of. The city of Clermont-Fernand is within walking distance and is well worth the walk to have dinner at one of the nice terraces on one of the city-squares.

There was a festival next to the hotel and the staff didn’t inform us about it. The airco in the room needed maintenance and made a lot of noise.

I was very happy with the room and breakfast. The staff were friendly and very polite. My wife is vegan and doesn't expect much choice in France, but there was vegan yoghurt for the fresh fruit, a choice of breads and condiments and the staff even got her oatmilk for her coffee, she was very impressed.

We didn't like the fact that you have to pay €12 per night to park in the hotels private carpark, it's attached to the hotel, so surely this should be included in the nightly rate.

Parking in garage is possible, also reservation in advance is possible which is good. After room upgrade (see below) we got a really nice room with teapot, teabags, comfortable beds, fridge etc. The room was really nice and clean.

Check-in was a bit long since they had to scan all our passports. First we were given a room without any bed for our 11 year old kid - I think this is some booking.com problem, but still. Fortunately there was one bigger room still available (upgrade was free). Breakfast was fine, but both coffee machines did not work and the service lady seemed to have troubles fixing and cleaning it. Fortunately we only needed hot water and not coffee beans.

The hotel felt brand new. Reception decor was modern and bright with a relaxing bar to match. Cocktails at the bar were excellent. Rooms were clean, immaculate and well equipped. When we arrived we asked for a room with a bath which they moved us to without hesitation. Location was a stones throw from a tram which took us right into the city centre. Delicious homemade(?) yoghurts at breakfast, amongst other tasty treats.

The location is good, as it is close to the city center. The hotel is very modern and nice - as on the pictures. It has a very good value price ratio. The fitness center met our expectations. Towels and water were provided and there were enough machines to work out. The staff provided us spontaneously a list of open restaurants on Sunday, which was really helpful.

The window was not properly closed and we did not notice it at first. So the room was very noisy the first night. After properly closing the window, the room was quiet. The room was a bit small and we had to do quite some tetris to unpack our stuff.

Quiet, clean, comfortable room. Not too far from the train station or the old city sights. Staff was terrific. There was a tram strike and woman at the desk was very helpful in recommending nearby restaurants. Excellent breakfast buffet, too.

The restaurant is not good. Very small menu. We, like almost everyone we saw, had "frayed" meat, which turned to be shredded beef posing as a hamburger. It was not very good. Waitstaff seemed new and somewhat overwhelmed.

Well decorated and comfortable room. Very light and friendly. The kids got a cute goodie bag and we could park the car and charge overnight very easily! The food was great as well! Perfect for a lazy stop on our way to the south.

The garage was a bit tricky to navigate and the location wasn’t very exciting which was fine for our purpose but not for a prolonged stay.

The breakfast, although not huge, was of good quality. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms offered a free bottle of water and had tea/coffee facilities with some nice tea choices. The beds were comfortable.

The corridor light automatically turned itself on/off - we had asked for adjoining rooms and were given the 2 rooms at the end of the corridor which had an extra door to separate them with our 2 year old daughter in the second room. Note: it was nice having the extra space, but the light did annoy us.
