Grand Hotel Viljandi

ALL employees were very friendly and most helpful. Laura receives extra recognition because she found a bed with a much harder mattress that fits my sleeping requirements much better. BREAKFAST was buffet style. I enjoyed the large variety of everything offered, except for the fried eggs. I had seconds of the dark bread, cheese, ham, salmon, pineapple, dried cranberries and cake :-P TV reception was from several different countries, which makes it easy to be entertained and to keep up with world affairs.

For me, as a heavy person, the mattresses are too soft. Especially the single mattress in Room 320! If you are a large / heavy individual, at the moment of this writing (May 31st, 2023), Room 320 is definitely not for you! Your kids and grandkids would hit the ceiling jumping up and down from that bed ;-) That's how bouncy it was in room 320 :-D

The location of the hotel was perfect, right in the center and very close to the lake and Lossimäed. The room was lovely and well appointed with a comfy bed. The reception staff was friendly and helpful. Gravlax and freshly baked croissants at breakfast were very much appreciated.

The room had a really bad smell upon arrival, especially in the bathroom, but it somewhat disappeared later at night. The breakfast room only had a single coffee machine which broke down half way through breakfast. We were advised to get our coffee from the Reception but it took awhile as the poor lady working at the Reception had to prepare coffee while also attending the desk and checking out clients.

Staff at reception were friendly and helpful, and all spoke excellent English. I booked a single room but it was spacious, with a comfortable bed, lots of wardrobe space and an opening window. Loved the bathroom - big shower with ample hot water and good water pressure, and plenty of counter space for toiletries. Shampoo/body wash, conditioner, soap and a shower cap were supplied. There was also a TV and mini bar but I didn't use either. The area was quiet and the hotel close to a bus stop to/from the train station. The coach station and shopping centre was only 15 minutes walk also, and many sights and restaurants/cafes easily reached on foot. As a solo female traveller who went out to an evening event while in town and returned late on foot, I found both the hotel and the area in general felt very safe. The inclusive breakfast buffet was extremely good and had plenty of choice.

The only minor thing i could mention is that being able to make hot drinks in the room would have been nice.

The hotel is in the city center. Most of the attractions are within walking distance. The hotel has its own private parking but also there is a free public parking lot right in front of the hotel entrance. We enjoyed the breakfast there. It hadn't super wide choice of meals but everything we tried was tasty and fresh.

Unfortunately, the SPA zone works only from 8 to 10 a.m. which is a small period of time and also clashes with breakfast time. But on the other hand, we didn't even know that it has SPA so we weren't so sad about that.

We were in two different rooms, First night twin beds and second night double bed. Twin beds were nicely soft and very comfortable. Second night's bed was harder but still good. Breakfast was quite ordinary, but good enough. Location is very good.

After 7 PM only customers at the hotel. Neighbour room couple had big dispute and very noisy shouting. After two hours listening to it I had to use my fist to knock the wall. After that it was silence. In the morning I complained about it to reception worker, but the couple had already left the hotel. This can happen in any hotel, but would be nice if there is someone from personnel at the property also at night time. Second morning 7 min egg was max 5 min egg, but not too big problem to me.

The hotel staff are incredibly friendly, helpful and accommodating. Great breakfast, rooms were very comfortable and spacious. Fitness center and spa. Hotel is lovely. Great value for money

The only small issue was the universal weight machine in the fitness center was not working due to a missing cable. But they have free weights and the treadmill, rowing machine, elliptical, bike worked great.

We especially thought that the attendant at the front desk was exceptional. We stayed overnight on June 11 in order for you to identify the employee as we cannot recall her name. She was also on duty when we went to breakfast Sunday morning. She is extremely kind, thoughtful, informative, happy and always smiling. We felt as though she truly caref about us and making our stay as pleasant as possible…and she succeeded! What a wondetful employee. Thank you.

Everything was perfect

Nice stylish historical interior. The location of the hotel is in the very center of Viljandi. Our room was big, clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was rich and nice. Customer service was really awesome - they noticed that we were traveling with two little kids and upgraded our room. Thanks a lot. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay in Grand Hotel Viljandi again in the future :)

The location was excellent, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the breakfast was tasty. Shuttle bus brought from the railway station to a nearby bus stop. Short walk to the bus station.

The solid bar soap in the bathroom was a disappointment, changed it to my own liquid soap as I usually do.

Decent Room size, good design -comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast (and coffee), helpful Staff Very clean! Good extra bed - the best that I have ever seen Free parking.

Shower could be a bit roomier and more modern Air conditioning did not work properly, it was very hot in the room with around 28 degrees outside. Very soft beds, you "drown" in them
