Alto Hotel On Bourke

Alto was GREAT. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a friendly smile (honestly, this didn'tchange at all during our stay) & the transaction was painless. Our first unit had an out of order washing machine, so a room change was arranged. The rooms are smaller than they appear on the internet, but we fitted in well. Having two bathrooms was wonderful. Parking on-site was very handy. However, the initial turn into a deadend laneway was a little scary & and parking our hire car did take a lot of skill - as the six bays are very tight. It would be handy to have a remote control to operate the gate - rather than getting out pressing an intercom & then racing in before the gate closed. Location wise, it was good. Trams & easy to find food close by. My brother totally enjoyed lolly bar. Would consider staying again when next in Melbourne.

Great location, easy walk from Spencer St station, with great access to multiple tram stops. Also good walk into Bourke St mall or up to Vic Markets if you are happy to walk. Comfortable beds. Well stocked tea/ coffee supplies and complimentary coffee machine, filtered water , lolly bar and fruit located in a comfortable lounge, wirh free access to a fireplace, books and games. Friendly 24 hour front desk staff.

The shower curtain 😔. Water out of the otherwise very good shower, making the bathroom a slip hazard.

I booked for its location and decent price without any particular expectation - but what a surprise. It’s immaculate, stylish, and makes it’s fairly small (18 sqm) rooms seem spacious.The staff from reception to housekeepers were outstanding, they happily look after your luggage before and after your stage and their complimentary guests lounge is beautifully furnished and has high - quality refreshments.The bed is perfect, the linen immaculate, the bathroom spotless. The location, on Burke St half a block from Southern Cross cant’t be beat. I could go on… I’ve found my Melbourne layover!

Stayed here from 30th June to 3rd July 2023. On arrival Daniel made me feel extremely welcomed and checkin was really straight forward. There is a lift/elevator next to the reception. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere and ambience is what sets this apart from the larger hotel chains. In addition to the usual room amenities I was pleasantly surprised to see that the room contained a kitchen with a microwave, pots & pans, dishes, bowls, fridge and washing up/cleaning products. There was a bottle of water which you could refill in the dining area. Lily and Chloe were extremely helpful in answering any questions I had about the use of communal areas, breakfast options taxis and local places to visit. The dining area is also where you can help yourself to the free tea, coffee and hot chocolate and/or just relax by the fireplace. Please note they do not serve lunch or dinner but there are plenty of places to eat near by. There is a tram service within a couple of steps from the hotel and rail station very close by.

There is no ramp at the front of hotel not ideal for those who can't climb steps or are wheelchair users. However, the hotel has an accessible entrance at the rear of the hotel from the car park. Continental breakfast is limited to a choice of either toast or a pastry and chai seed pudding - was expecting more for the price.

Close proximity to absolutely everything we needed, friendly and helpful staff, great facilities. Surprise complimentary breakfast and tea and coffee made things even easier and when the lovely lady from the front desk realised I was vegetarian she organised a special breakfast for me.

The staff were lovely, whoever was on the afternoon shift on Friday 30th when we arrived at approx. 5PM was honestly gorgeous! They were super informative, conversational and just overall very kind. Definitely needed after a 5 hour train ride :) The double bed was actually a double bed and not two twins squeezed together, that is honestly a really rare find nowadays! Great location, great art and lovely cozy vibes. Overall will definitely be staying again the next time we are in Melbourne.

Not much of a gripe but the doona was super duper warm. maybe having some spare linen like some thin blankets in the linen closet would have been nice!

Location is so convenient. Daniel, the Alto Hotel staff on duty, was friendly and helpful. Special thanks to him for going the extra mile to be hospitable. Also, it was a quiet room and I had a good night’s sleep.

Just a note about the room (Superior 2-Bedroom Apartment for 4 adults) which has internal stairs. It was okay for us but it may not be suitable for those who prefer to have the bedrooms, bathroom and lounge area all in the one level. The first level was the dining/kitchen and lounge area and you go up the internal staircase to the upper level where the toilet/bathroom and 2 bedrooms are located.

The hotel staff were wonderful. They explained about the facilities in the reading room, where coffee from a coffee machine, fresh fruit, biscuits, lollies and other goodies were plentiful and free for the guests. The reading room had a cosy gas fire on and the expectation that your stay will be pleasant was the first impression. The hotel corridors are ancient, as the building is probably heritage, and the walk to the room for anyone in high heels would be tricky as the carpeted floor is very uneven with peaks and troughs where the floor has moved. Not sure about how safe that is, but there are signs to warn people that the floor is uneven. The room overlooking some large roof of a much lower building wasn't too great, but the room was clean and comfortable. The airconditioning units are pretty old looking, but in sync with the aging building. Overall this hotel is good if you are working up that end of town. Close to train station where you can catch the skybus to the airport (less than 2mins walk).

Wow loved everything. Top floor exceptionally clean and spacious apartment. Bed was warm, comfy and inviting. Bathroom was so clean and I had a wonderful bath. Kitchen and lounge had everything you needed for a stay in the heart of the city. It had a restaurant attached which I didn't use but they had free hot drinks and snacks available. The staff greeting me were so friendly and welcoming and the building is very secure so I felt very safe on my own. A short hop skip and jump from Southern Cross station.

The guy at the front desk (forgot his name now, perhaps Dan? or Sam?) was super friendly, accommodating and helpful, and pretty much made our entire stay. Thank you so much my friend! Hope you're getting all the raises and promotion you deserve! And hope to see you again one day! :-) The bed was also super comfortable. The room was incredibly quiet, almost soundproof, given its central city location. Aircond was great in keeping the room temperature comfortable. There was also EV charging (booking required - and Dan/Sam helped us with it a great deal despite our last minute booking) which was a plus.

Not much, just about everything about our stay was pleasant and comfortable. Perhaps the parking was a bit tight but there's not much that can be done about it. We're super grateful for what we got.
