Grand Central Motel

Retro kitsch court drive up motel but with absolute attention to detail in that the tiles and laminate and vertical blinds are all intact originals with hues of pink but the bathroom fittings are all brand new, everything is freshly painted spotlessly clean and a tub of crockery and bikkies is provided on top of the microwave. Close walk to everything.

For the price this was perfect for an overnight stay on the way to Adelaide. No faults, it is what it is. We were up some stairs, so if this is a problem ask for a ground floor unit.

Very central just like its name. Its a budget busting motel and one of the cheapest, just the way I like it. It may not have all the bells and whistles but the essentials are all there like tea and coffee making facilities, electric jug, fridge, good bed with electric blanket and the place convenient to cafes and shops well within walking distance.

Door lock and knob very hard to operate, needs replacing. People smoking outside our door and the smell finding its way into our room. Not much the motel can do about that I know. Damned annoying all the same.

The location was convenient and easy to get around the city. The facilities were great. You would have everything you need to make you feel comfortable like home (home away from home)

The smoking thingy. As we arrived, there are "No Smoking Signs" in front of every single room; but there were other customers sitting/standing right in front of their rooms and smoked. It was so uncomfortable. I would expect that those smokers should have a designated area to smoke (which is away from those rooms).

Excellent location. As the name suggests it really is central. Very helpful and friendly receptionist upon arrival. Facilities pretty standard and for budget accommodation fulfilled my needs. Goof for a short stay.

Property is aging and could probably do with some maintenance at some point. Bed cover dusty and didn’t smell fresh. Blinds smelt of old smoke. Some unsavoury types hanging around and being quite noisy and smoking. I heard one woman saying she lives there. Didn’t seem to be able to keep their voices low even at 3am. I did manage to sleep though so it wasn’t all bad.

Very welcoming, helpful host ( JB, thanks for your kindness), super comfortable bed, good Wifi, excellent shower, very handy microwave, fridge and kitchenette area. Very clean. Easy parking just outside the room and short walk to Commercial Street, pubs and shops/ supermarket. Despite proximity to town centre it was quiet and we slept very well. Well-heated on a cold, rainy night.👍 Thanks for a great stay: we will return and recommend to friends.

This is just an added luxury since we have one at home, but an electric blanket on the bed would have been perfect! However the reverse-cycle air con was more than satisfactory to warm up the room, so it’s not really a criticism.

Great location, reception person very pleasant and helpful, even though we arrived later than we expected. Very clean, beds comfortable, (twin room downstairs), parking on premises, quiet reverse cycle heating, bathroom more than adequate,

No breakfast or restaurant facilities on site but plenty of places to eat within walking distance. The room I was in was a bit tired. The tap in the basin was loose. Parking on-site was very tight. I was a bit worried someone would scratch my car.

We had a great stay here at the Grand Central Motel. We only stayed a night but wish we could have stayed longer because Mount Gambier has alot of lovely things to see. The motel stay was cheap and cheery with good old fashioned charm and excellent service. The room is cosy and classic retro in style, it was very clean and had everything we needed for our short stay. The bed was super soft, the ensuite shower was big enough for two and the pressure was great. We could park our car right out front of the room for convenience and as the motel is so central, we could walk to all our destinations in town that night so it was a perfect place to stay for us. We went down the road to Mac's for dinner and that pub was fabulous also. The free continental breakfast delivered the night before had all the Aussie options and was a lovely touch and Andrew the Hotel Manager was very attentive and a pleasure to chat to. Recommended that our friends stay there the night too and not worry about driving home to Penola that night, so they did. We would recommend to anyone wanting a nice place to stay the night or two in the Mount and we will definately be coming back here to stay again one-day.

I liked the way the staff and owners went out of their way to communicate with me personally and make sure i was comfortable whilst I was there. They also provided a wealth of information for wining, dining and things to do and see around the beautiful and scenic city of Mt. Gambier. Honestly, they all went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure everyone was happy, entertained and relaxed. I have never seen that before with any accommodation that I have stayed at, Never! Nothing Everything was great.

The motel was close to the city centre and close to coles and Aldi and not far from some restaurants. Although the motel was a bit dated , it was clean and had extra cutlery and crockery for convenience. The receptionist was friendly and helpful and attentive
