Sunset Motel Moriarty

Cute place with updated mid century modern retro design and furniture. Bed was very comfortable and was quiet for a good night's rest. Owner was working desk and very freindly and helpful. Was like stepping into a time machine and staying at a nice 1960's motel on the old route 66.

Only issue with room was low number of plug ins for electrical items which is common for older places. The biggest downside to us for this stay was Moriarity which is very small town with little to do and see and with very limited food choices made worse by us staying on Easter day when even fewer were open.

The staff was very friendly. The room was clean and had no bad smell. The ac was on for us and a bag of goodies was left on the table with our paperwork. It had a nice big fridge, microwave and a coffee pot. This facility offered a pet relief area which had poop bags and a trash can. Sadly, people don’t clean up after their dogs even with a nice grassy dog area and disposal bags and can. Thank you for providing a nice pet area . Place was super quiet. I’d stay here again

The only thing that caught my eye was the comforters were a little dirty. Besides that everything was great!

Given this was a vintage hotel along Route 66, I wasn't sure what to expect, but previous reviews convinced me to take a chance. And I'm glad I did - this was a fun little stop. The room was very clean and nicely decorated, with some cool vintage touches. The lady who checked me in was very friendly and check-in was a breeze. I really appreciated the goody bag for breakfast - two excellent pastries and two Clementine oranges got my day off to a good start.

So, like many of the small towns along historic Route 66, Moriarty's heyday appears to be in the past. That said, this little hotel is a gem and worth a fun stay for a cool feel of yesteryear!

Wonderful and simple retro Route 66 motel (even has old style room key lock). Manager was very attentive and it felt like a family guest house (even gave a thorough run down of the local eateries to try). Simple but very comfy accommodations. If you want a fancy chain motel with the latest ammenities than go somewhere else - if you want an affordable and welcome stay off the main drag then by all means stay at the Sunset.

The staff was very nice and we had a very good talk The house cat Lilly steals away the show. Loves her belly scratched. The AC worked fine and is placed so, that it doesn't blow on you when you sleep. The fridge is rather big.

The carpet and the walls are a little worn out. Under the entrance door of our room there was a gap, so crawling insects have a good entrance. There were some dead on the floor, but we didn't see any living. So there's not much to complain.

Loved the retro feel. I felt like I was travelling with my grandparents when I was little again (I'm in my 50's now). It's very clean for being retro and for so much of the motel to be still original.

I was in a room closest to the road. There is alot of road noise, and the lowest the AC would go is 76 degrees. I know I would have slept more soundly if I had been able to get the room a bit cooler (and then wouldn't have heard the traffic so much).

Absolute pleasure to stay at the motel. The style is a retro American motel. The owner was very kind and told us about good local food spots. The breakfast were some delicious pastries. We also got a little surprise on the night stand that was very sweet and heartwarming to be greeted by at the end of a long exhausting day. Wish I came across their website before moving out though as I’m sure the owners have a lot of interesting stories to tell.

The check-in process was very efficient and very friendly. Mary (?) the manager was extremely kind and helpful. She carefully went over the hotel amenities and requirements. I was concerned about the motel's COVID 19 protocols since my wife has a serious respiratory condition. Mary took time to show me the cleaning and anti-bacterial agents they use to ensure the COVID protocols are met since she too has a respiratory condition. While the motel was older, it was in very good condition and updated where possible. I thought the "personally prepared" breakfast bags were a nice touch. A "yester-year" gem.

The room was very clean and comfortable. It is an original hotel from the 1970s with the same owners and is decorated as that time period. Don't let the age scare you as it is very well maintained and the staff was very friendly and helpful. If I ever travel that way again, I will definitely stop. I loved the rubber duck on the bathtub. the old time alarm clock and the breakfast rolls were delicious. .

I was delighted with manager/owner’s welcome and friendliness upon my mid-evening arrival, which was an excellent fit with the charm of the Sunset Motel that I was expecting from strong, positive reviews, the look of the establishment and its location, literally at the foot of Historic Route 66. A well-run and safe place.

Wish I’d arrived sooner, stayed a little longer to soak-in more of Moriarty’s interesting “vibe.” However, I left with a positive feeling and a smile about the place.
