Hyatt Place Grand Rapids South

The breakfast was surprisingly good for an affordable chain hotel. It was included in our price, and we just tried it out of curiosity. Everybody in our family found something they liked. It was convenient to sit outside as the weather was nice, and our dog traveled with us. The room was big enough for the 5 of us plus dog. The beds were comfy and the blackout curtains pleasant. The heated indoor pool was a big hit for our children.

The toilet made a strange noise after each flushing… The passway from breakfast room to the outside table was almost blocked by a table and chairs. It made maneuvering breakfast difficult. In addition, the hotel key didn’t work for the door between breakfast room and outdoor seating area, which made enjoying breakfast a bit tricky…not a big deal if you don’t want to eat outside, obviously.

The breakfasts were great. I don’t eat breakfast but my kids loved it, both the variety and the preparation. The rooms were large and comfortable. The heat worked well. The front desk staff was very helpful and pleasant. The lobby area was always clean and attractive.

Bathrooms The showers are the absolute worst! They leak all over the floor - it took the bath mat and a bath towel to mop it up each time - and the overspray goes all over the wood door, too. Also the shower head was really bad - you could have a single narrow jet or a wide spray with no pressure at all. The toilet paper was so cheap and thin, it disintegrates on contact. We had to go buy toilet paper for our rooms. The bathroom light and the fan are on one switch and the fan is super loud. It would’ve been nice to be able to have the light on without the fan; we just (mostly) didn’t close the door so we didn’t have to turn on the light and listen to that fan. We can't say anything about housekeeping for the rooms - we stayed there four nights and never saw them.

Beautiful facility and it did not smell like marijuana even though it's legal! That's a plus when traveling with teen and tween children! Breakfast set up was awesome and really delicious. We all said Best breakfast at a hotel in awhile!!

Elevator a little noisy, which may be normal, but a little unsettling to some guests we talked to in passing. It would also be helpful to have microwaves in the rooms, especially the bigger suites. But we were just staying overnight to attend a baby shower near by. Would definitely stay again!

The hotel has been recently updated and the rooms are really nice. There was plenty of space for our family of 6. The staff was very friendly. Breakfast was good with a pretty good variety.

When we I arrived I was notified that they had overbooked and the room we booked wasn't available (2 queens and a pullout sofa). They were going to give us a queen with a sofa bed but since we have 4 kids that would not be enough sleeping space. It worked out in the end and we got the room we had booked but it's frustrating that they allow for overbooking.

The location is conveniently located near the freeway. There are plenty of restaurants and stores nearby if you need anything. I like that they offer breakfast. The rooms are spacious and clean. Overall I felt the hotel was maintained well.

The hot options at breakfast could be better, especially the meat options. They need more seating in the dining area, not many tables for families larger than 3.

The King suite was very lovely and the bed was so comfortable. We liked having the desk, mini fridge with counter and the couch in our room.

This can't be changed but the bathroom area in the king suite is not designed well. If one person wants to stay in bed in the morning (or go to bed early) the vanity light shines right on the bed. And any noise is so obvious. Also, the door to the toilet is so tightly spaced. One has to position oneself in between the toilet and the wall in order to close the door. Minor things maybe but noticeable.

Pet policy (we had dogs next door barking all night long). Therefore, we missed breakfast because we overslept. Weren't too fond of the thin walls (no privacy). We could hear everything in the halls, in rooms across the hall and in neighboring rooms. Our room phones DID NOT work. Thank GOD for cell phones.

Location was great, close to the highway to head to downtown or across town. Several shops in the area of all types, salon, clothing, shoes, electronics and many different food options. Grocery store, gas station. This would be a great location for a long terms stay (close to medical facilities) also. The area around the location is under development but did not interfere with the stay, no extra noise or traffic.

So many people travel with animals now that it would be great to see an area designated to our furry friends. This location has a lot of open space around it and would be a great addition to what they already offer and it is near several medical facilities. A doggie park area would be a great attraction for travelers.

I enjoyed the breakfast but it was hard to find the dishes. There wasn't anyone in the area to help so a guest helped me. It took a long time for them to replenish the food so it would've been better if someone was taking care of that.

I would have loved a hot tub and just someone to attend the breakfast area.

Location was good, easy on and off the highway that takes you east/west and north/south, an eclectic collection of foods and different levels of dinning in the immediate area. Not far from shopping or a movie theater, downtown Grand Rapids is accessible from several different routes or public transportation and the lake shore is 30 minutes or so away. Traveled with our dogs and the area around the hotel is very nice and walkable. There is even a small park a short distance down the road. Would be great if the hotel created a dog park area in the open area around the property.
