Sunset Inn Pacific Grove

We were greeted by Rishi at the front desk and I must say he was very welcoming, kind and friendly despite the fact we arrived after 10pm. A really pleasant surprise was that he had also very kindly upgraded our room for us! This was lovely after a 3 hour drive and we were very grateful. The room itself was lovely, quite spacious, we had our own private balcony, fireplace and we honestly weren't in need of anything (extra blankets were already provided if we needed them, and if we were too warm there was a ceiling fan plus an extra fan in the cupboard). The bathroom was very clean and tidy and the bed very comfortable. The previous place we'd stayed had not offered the best sleep, so to sleep in a comfortable bed was very welcome! The hotel site and surrounding area was very peaceful and only a 5-10 minute walk from the sea. The parking was a little limited but again Rishi suggested where we could park overnight so that we wouldn't have to park too far down the road. Despite there currently being no breakfast room available, the breakfast options were very convenient and we were able to pop along and pick up whatever we needed and take it back to our rooms, or sit in the reception area. Seating and trays were also available here as well as an array of drinks options. We used the drinks machine to fill our bottles before heading out.

There was a small restriction on parking as the car park is not massive, but this also wasn't helped by the fact we arrived so late Thursday night meaning all of the spaces had been taken. Rishi however kindly suggested the best way of parking on the hotel site so that we didn't need to park further away. As many spaces became available the following morning we had no problems after this. He just requested that we move our car into an available space by 9am the next morning.

What a gem! And clean? It was spotless! Rishi was so accommodating - he even told us exactly what time the sun sets and suggestions for local restaurants. Free parking and a lovely continental breakfast: fruit, English muffins, cinnamon raisin bread, yogurt, hot and cold cereal and assorted donuts, juice, coffee and tea. Our room was lovely - and the fireplace warmed up our room so nicely! The bed was very comfortable, the TV was very big and the back of the remote actually stayed put!! Most of the rooms were akin to attached cabins - some with fireplaces and spa tubs! And each cabin has a lovely front patio with 2 chairs and a small table. Cannot wait to visit this adorable property again soon!

Parking, tight parking area, not enough spaces for guests

We were upgraded when checking in for a fee for a big room- suite above the reception, it was clean, spacey and had a couch which we really appreciated. Breakfast was ok, it was served in the reception room. Wifi great. The manager on the reception was amazing.

Not great sound proofing, we heard sounds from next door room, reception and the road. The pictures somehow made me expect (but maybe I was not paying close attention) a hotel building on a hill. This was luxury version of a motel by the road. Really small mirror for tall people in the bathroom.

I loved having a fireplace. I loved the location. And I loved that they had lots of strings of lights at night so that I could find it easily as I drove along Asilomar Avenue. It was conveniently close to where I needed to go every day. And I had the pleasure of spending time in my room during the day as well, enjoying the spacious feel of my room and reading by the fireplace. They offered breakfast, but I didn't partake because I ate breakfast at the conference I attended, so I can't comment on that.

The best thing besides the cleanliness and comfort was the staff! Rischi went above and beyond to accommodate us! He made sure we had everything we needed! Kindest person ever! Usually the beds are awful in hotels, never comfortable and that’s important to me! I slept like a baby here! Will defiantly be back! This will be my go to from now on!

The mirror in the bathroom location! Had to close door to see it, and they should add another mirror outside bathroom on wall! The shower pressure wasn’t great!

The location is excellent. The room was a bit small, but for one night it was fine. We were not given any instructions on how to use the fireplace, so we didn't. Kind of a letdown since we specifically wanted a room with a fireplace. Parking was a little cramped but at least we did not need to park on the side of the road. The staff was very friendly. The eating/breakfast area is very small and a bit weird since it's in the office/check-in area. We did have a fridge, coffee pot, and microwave. And the fridge was not stocked with over-priced items, it was actually empty so we could put our own water in it. That was a huge bonus for us.

Mostly no type of sign or instruction on the fireplace. Also, the food area for breakfast was a letdown. It would be much nicer to have a small room with a few tables without people coming in and out of the office or all the clutter of being in a multi-use space. Our room was only 400 sq ft, there wasn't anywhere to eat in it, and the "breakfast area" did not have anywhere to eat either. Outside would have been the best choice but the weather could make that an issue. It would be a nightmare with kids in my opinion.

The room was Amazingly Clean, Smelled soooo Fresh, and I felt soooo safe being that I was alone. The staff was so Accommodating and Friendly. The Grounds were so Clean and Quiet throughout my Stay. I will definitely stay at this location again when I go back to Monterey.

There was nothing to not like. If I have to say something I would say I didn’t want to leave. It felt like a home away from home. The internet signal was strong. Ok, maybe a bigger TV in the room… hehehe

The location- minutes away from the ocean, we could hear the ocean from the room! Safe location to walk around. Rooms are independent cottage style, which was cute. Comfortable and clean bedding. The hosts greeted us very warmly and recommended several places and restaurants to check out around the area- we checked a few and they all turned out to be great suggestions. 5 mins drive from many restaurants.

Breakfast was grab and go, so very limited options. Would have liked to have a nice hot breakfast spread available.
