Two issues. One was the fact that, although the hotel advertises free wi-fi, the signal only covers the ground floor, where the pub/restaurant is. No service at all on the first floor (where the breakfast room is) and on the second floor (where my room was). The second was that, although I was asked, on checking in, to specify what time I wanted breakfast and even what I wanted for breakfast (fair enough), when I did turn up, on time, I had to wait ten minutes while no staff members appeared. I then followed the sound of a voice to the kitchen and found the waitress chatting away on her phone.

Beds very comfortable, breakfast good and although an Inn which had some noisy customers downstairs, couldn't hear any noise from our room on the 2nd floor which was good. Wooler Common nature reserve just 1 mile uphill walk or drive away.

There was no shower screen or even curtain in the bath which meant we were unable to take showers or the floor would have been flooded with water, and could have done wirh a shelf above the sink. Also found quite a few hairs in the bath and crumbs in a draw so cleaning wasn't that great. Thankfully always go away with anti bacterial wipes and gloves!

Lovely room! Really comfy nights sleep. Great teas and coffee facilities in the room and we had a delicious cooked breakfast, and was nicely stocked for continental as well. The staff at breakfast were lovely and friendly. The car park is quite small and difficult to find, but we managed to get the last space. Really good stay! The bar is a bit rowdy, but we had been on a ghost tour and got in quite late anyway, so had a hot chocolate in the room. You couldn't hear anything at all in the room, though!

It was so good to find the black bull inn after my third day of walking along St Cuthberts way. This place ticked all the boxes. It was good value for money, the bathroom was newly renovated, the bed was comfortable, it was relatively quiet and in a good location for takeaways and restaurants. I was catching a bus in the morning to Berwick on tweed and the bus station was outside the door. Finally the staff were really friendly and I left there feeling like I had a good experience.

Centrally located ; traditional bar area downstairs with open fire. Warm welcome from check in staff. Our rooms were on the second floor up a decreasingly wide and carpeted staircase but were perfectly adequate. The room with the shower seemed to be newly refurbished and the shower was excellent. The room with the bath was smaller and not quite as recently decorated. The range of in room drinks was very good including Clipper fruit teas. Breakfast was to order and the porridge extremely good. Cooked breakfasts very acceptable.

The croissant continental option was disappointing- cold long-life croissants with processed cheese slices.

Breakfast was excellent as was the service. The lady who served our breakfast was very friendly. The room was a good size, well furnished. The only downside was the bathroom which was very small but fine for 1 night. All the staff we spoke to were absolutely excellent - so welcoming and friendly. Makes a huge difference. The value is absolutely exceptional. Bar prices and food was very reasonably priced.

The bathroom was too small as was the shower but everything else was excellent.

good location ( high street), quiet enough room, breakfast room is on the floor under guest rooms and above bar, free parking around town, choice of eateries around town, we had dinner in the black bull and it was very tasty, room had everything for those travelling light eg hairdryer, toiletries, iron and board, radio alarm clock as well as tea/coffee making and tv. plenty of plug sockets.

it was one of the hottest weeks when we arrived, and one of the 2 sash windows appeared to be painted shut and as the plug sockets were along the skirting board level it wasn’t practical to use a personal usb fan at that height, so it was a very warm room. to be fair we didn’t ask if they had any standard fans available to borrow for the night and I wouldn’t have expected it ( if they did I’d be very impressed)

Staff were friendly and it felt relaxed and welcoming. They were great at accommodating changes to check in times (we were heading to a wedding and running late so didn't check in until late). Parking was easy. Although the pub was open late we couldn't hear any noise from it in our room. Room and bathroom were very clean, pleasant and well stocked with tea, coffee, shampoo/conditioner etc if needed. Curtains were great and kept the room really dark. Breakfast was nice and the lady serving was friendly.

For us, the bed was too soft, but that's personal preference. Room was very warm.

Very comfortable and large bedroom (4 poster) in a great pub, one that I would be more than pleased to have as my local. Many great people to chat to in the bar - some real characters in there. Landlady and her bar staff team all friendly, welcoming and professional. The food was excellent, it's hard now to find chefs who believe you when you tell them you want a steak done 15 seconds a side - this one got it right! Prices for food and drink were very good too. Excellent base for walking in the Cheviots and for exploring the fascinating town of Berwick.

Only that 3 days and nights flew by all too quickly! Enjoyed it that much.

Lovely village pub. Our room was spacious, comfortable, nicely decorated and well equipped an iron and board, toiletries, bottled water, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and biscuits. The refreshments tray was replenished every day and the room serviced. All the staff were friendly and professional. The menu had some interesting choices and all our meals were piping hot, well cooked, tasty, served promptly and large portions. Good selection of beers and wines all reasonably priced.

Nothing to dislike. We had a lovely time.
